Istas settled back and shook her head, "That's no good!" And to Istas it wasn't. She didn't have many friends her own age that could actually hang around with more than a couple of days.
She smiled when he agreed though. She was sure there were more glittery casts but it was well enough, "I'm glad you like it. Now it doesn't look so bare." She gave a nod as she sat there and swung her legs a bit.
"How long do you have to keep it on? Does it itch?" Questions barreled out. Like a typical kid, as she craned her neck so her butter yellow eyes could watch him better, "I haven't needed a cast yet."
She hadn't done any thing to need a cast.

"Yeah... seems like we're all busy, for the most part." He sighed. That wasn't completely a lie, either. "Ill make sure they sign it when I run into them, though ?" He offered.
Istas started shooting question after questions, but he didn't mind. "Six weeks." It sounded like forever... because it WAS forever, in his mind. "And it used to, but not so much. It hurted a lot, too, but the pain kind of settled down after a day or two." It sounded like she'd never had to have a cast, thankfully.

She frowned, "Everyone being busy isn't any fun. When do you get to play or color?" She shook her head, "Mommy and daddy are like that sometimes too. I have to drag out a board game and make them play."
She seemed serious, "Maybe we could do that for your friends? They'd find time then!"
She smiled, everyone always seemed to find time for a quick board game. She paused when he said six weeks, "Ewww that's forever!" She agreed with him, that didn't sound like a short time at all.
When he said it use to itch she frowned, "How'd you scratch it?" It was perhaps one of the sillier question. She paused when he said it hurted a lot, "I'm glad it's not hurting as bad." She wrapped her arms around him trying to be careful of the cast, it sounded like he could use a hug.

He didn't have the heart to tell her that people... kind of stopped to play and color after a certain age. At least, they stopped doing it as often as she likely did. Instead, they worked. And some were even professional monster busters.
The thought made him smile. "Maybe that'll work, who knows ?"
"That's the thing... You don't get to. You could hurt yourself if something got stuck in between your skin and the bandages under the cast. I don't plan to hurt myself anymore than im hurt right now." He let out a chuckle. For now, anyway.
And then she hugged him, just like that. It did kind of catch him off-guard, but he slid his valid arm over her, in some kind of awkward return of said hug. "It's okay, Lulu."
Something occurred to him, then. "Did you have fun with the pumpkin contest ? I saw you there a lot." Had she recognized him in costume ? It had been a kind of easy guess, to be honest.

Istas grinned, "I bet it would."
She blinked, "Well that's no good at all." She said with a frown, "Being itchy isn't fun."
She grinned, even though it was awkward she chuckled. "Oh yes! I did." She said with a nod, "I got a 'special' prize." She grinned.
"Do you like my new outfit?" She said standing up so he could see.

"No, it's not." The blonde agreed. "But it's over now, so there's that, uh ?"
So she had ended up winning something, after all ? That was great ! He hadn't expected to win anything, himself, but he'd somehow managed it on the last day. Which mean that he hadn't had time to do anything with his prize, since that day had also been the day of the ball...
"You look very nice." He grinned. "I don't know what im gonna buy with mine yet." He could use a new jackets... or new pants. He could use a ton of new everything, in all honesty.

Istas nodded, "Yes it is."
She smiled and nodded, "Thank you."
She paused tilting her head, "Maybe you have enough for a whole new outfit?" She asked curiously with a tilted head.
She seemed to be thinking.

"Maybe ?" Xavier answered. "I won on the last day, and that's the day..." Maybe he shouldn't mention the ball. What if the tale of chaos and powers going apeshit everywhere scared her ? "the day I got hurt. My dad had to go pick up my card for me."
For the rest, well, he only had his own mental kicking and stewing to blame. He definitively had all the time in the world to go lose in a mall somewhere. It was hard to mentally berate himself with Istas around, though. Such a little ray of sunshine, did she even notice ?
Xavier was completely unaware that she was thinking.

Istas paused the last day? "Ohhh that' when I got mine."
She smiled, "Ya know I tried to get into that ball too, they wouldn't let me go in, said I was too little." She said wrinkling her nose. "Stupid meanie heads." Istas muttered. Perhaps one of the few times she wasn't a ray of sunshine was when she thought someone was unjustly mean to her.
However her thought process changed as suddenly as it had come. "You should get one of those cool shirts with the pictures on them? I've seen some with cereal box animals like Tony the Tiger or there's ghost busters." She paused looking at him, "If you like that kind of stuff."
She paused thinking, she tilted her head, watching him, he seemed kinda quite. "Are you always this quite?"

It was a good thing they hadn't allowed her inside, he couldn't help but think. After all that had happened, he was surprised that he was, as far as he was aware, the only one to sustain an injury. At the same time, though, it made him feel like s**t to know he had been the only one dumb enough to ******** up.
Had he been awake to see what Queen Beryl had done to Castor's hand, he might actually count himself lucky.
"That's too bad." Was what he said instead, not wanting to upset her any further than she already was.
"I could look into that." Maybe there would be something interesting ? Her last question, through, surprised him. "Quiet ? Well... I guess im a little like that." He was normally more lively than he was now, but the reason was easy to see and to guess. "Im sorry if im boring, Lulu." He offered with a smile. "I just have a lot of things to think about, you know ?"

If Lulu had actually been there maybe she'd been of some help. Of course she seemed to be oblivious about any such chaos. She shrugged, "Mr. Wickham from the pumpkin booth showed me the garden though."
"He showed me the snapdragons, you can make them open their mouths." She added with a nod.
She grinned when he said he could look into that. "Shirts like those are always fun. I like to stop and read the ones with words on them sometimes. I think they cheer people up too, specially if they're funny."
She watched him curiously as he apologized, and then poked him softly. "You're not boring, but what are you thinking about?" She shifted on the bench and put her hands in her lap afterwords, "I can listen really good." She added.

"That was really nice of him." Xavier agreed. At least she still ended up having some fun of her own. "I haven't really seen the garden, I bet it was very pretty. And I didn't know that you could do that with snapdragons." Didn't know all that much about flowers, really. Botany had never been a thing that had attracted him.
"I bet there are some really funny ones out there." No examples came to mind, however, so he just let it at that.
Again, the last things she asked about where more complex to answer. The blonde shook his head a bit. "There are just... things that I wish I could change. Things I wish I could have done better." He couldn't explain in detail, and it didn't help. "It's useless to think about all that, since I can't change anything now... But somehow, all these thoughts won't go away... you know ?"

She smiled, "I didn't know flowers bloomed in the fall either. They were pretty and all kinds of colors. You should go see it sometime."
She paused as he said that, behind those butter yellow eyes her mind seemed to turn gears, "Kinda like that one time I hugged the class gerbil a little too hard without realizing it?" She looked at Xavier, "I mean he didn't wake back up again. Mommy had to try to find one that looked just like him so no one would know. I felt bad that mommy had to go through all that trouble..." She scratched the back of her head with a chuckle cheeks tinged red in embarrassment, "It's nothing like that is it?" She really hadn't meant to squeeze the poor gerbil that hard, but she was younger then, she was in kindergarden then and had learned not to be so rough with things after that.

"There are some flowers that do that. And some that bloom early at spring." He knew that much, at the very least. "Were there any sunflowers ? Huge yellow flowers ? They bloom late, too, I think."
He listened to her speak, and... Oh, poor Istas. He fully believed that had been a complete accident - he couldn't see her harming anything on purpose. "It's..." The words seemed to flee then, and he shook his head. How could he put it ? "A little like that, but at the same time it isn't." He paused for a moment. "It's like... if someone gave you something to do, something very, very important. You want to do good at what you've been asked to do... You do your best, but your best... never really seems good enough. It's like that."
He was the one with such high expectations of himself, though. He was the one who was frustrated at his apparent ineptitude, while in reality what he lacked was experience.

Istas seemed to think. Where there sunflowers, "No... I don't remember seeing any... I know there's a few in grandpa's garden but he lives far away."
She tilted her head, "Oh..." She paused. "But if you did your best that was all you could do, isn't it?"
