Yeah, i don't like the idea of those big covens. I think that it's so important to know and trust everyone in your coven absolutely, hence I love our 4 person one. 3nodding

Must be nice to have something like that!

Yeah, it's cool. And it's really interesting to get four different points of view on a spell or a stone or something. 3nodding

I strongly prefer having a group. Right now I belong to a coven, and I love it! I have worked with many groups, from large, public rituals to small, intimate groups. I prefer the small group of my chosen family. Of course, I also have a private practice, and do solitary devotionals and rituals of my own. But I would not find that sufficient for myself.

Yeah, I agree with you, Kudzu(sp), while sometimes it's nice to do solitary stuff, it's great to have the group as well, for the different energies and points of view.

Well, technically you can't be a solitary Wiccan, not without having been in a lineaged coven (meaning one that can trace its members back through to Gardner himself) for a few years and learning the inner secrets. Until such time you can say that you are studying Wicca, but not state that you are Wiccan. The ultra-traditionalists would bite your head off for that.

I am not Wiccan, nor do I want to. Heavily structured religion isn't for me. (Eclectic Pagan here)

Yeah, that's true, but only if you want to get picky about it. I think if you get initiated by a fully fledged High Priestess, then it shouldn't make a huge difference whether you're in a coven or not.

I might be a bit skeptical of a covern...

I mean I would like to join one and see what it is like, But Im not 18 and I have read that they don't allow members under 18 to join.....

That's mad! Chances are any that say only over-18's are ones you want to stay away from! Covenmembers can be any age once they've been initiated.

I'm solitary but I'd love to be in a coven. I just don't want to disrupt the energy and connectedness the group has so I haven't approached any groups around my area. I was kind of hoping I might get an invite if I put myself out there enough. I'll see what happens.

Bradhmdraiocht, you said you're in a coven in Irealand. I'm visiting Ireland in May and I was looking for pagan shops and stuff but I can't seem to find many. Can you point me in the right direction?

unfortunately no. I wish I could (i really do!) but most of my stuff is either homemade, cos my friend has a huge herbgarden, or gathered off the internet. The best thing to do is go into those sort of chakra-type shops and hope you get lucky. Ireland isnt really one for unusual religions.

Thanks anyway. I figured it would be a long shot with all the Christanity around. At least there is no shortage of standing stones and such razz

Ireland isn't actually just a huge big christian country. most people now accept alternate religions, even if they dont believe them themselves. I've had less trouble than lots of people telling my friends that I'm wiccan.

I dont like big covens, because i can't work in groups very well. But me and my three other firends have formed a coven, we all have basically the same ideas and wants and believes when it comes to magick, so it's all good.

I haven't been in a coven yet, mostly because there are none in my town. I'm fine with being a solitary wiccan. I work with my fiance and sister but we aren't a coven. If one ever formed in town I might join to see what its like, but not because I need to. ^-^

I don't hold with "ultra-trads" saying I can't call myself Wiccan. I've already had my head bitten of. biggrin I'm in the PFRG, a lot of them are deffinitly "ultra-trads."

I pratice alone. At some point I would like to join one, and there is one where I live, but I'm not comfortable with it. I just don't feel safe praticing around with people I don't know.

It seems a lot of people have been saying that, and it just makes me realise how lucky I am to have found a group of friends who I love and trust to practice with.
