"Ah, yes! A drink would be lovely!" He smiled at her, once again trying to warm her up. Did she still see him as a threat? Or as something huge and scary? She really had no need to, but he supposed others moved at their own pace.

"Why don't I walk you over to the river for a nice cool drink? We can continue our talk as we walk!" Without stepping any closer to the mare, as he didn't want to scare her off, he took a small step toward the river, urging her to follow, "Come on, then!"

Yet another hesitation came before she took a tentative step to match his. For whatever reason, he seemed to be trying to be nice. She still hadn't given up on the possibility that he wanted something but... well, she was thirsty.

Accomodating to her petite steps, Cabaret made sure to take small ones too. He didn't want to pull ahead of the mare and give her a chance to run away, but he did keep moving so that she wouldn't be encouraged to just stop.

Slowly making their way closer to the river, about half way there now, Cabaret offered her some encouragement. "That's it! We're almost there! I think the water will be cool and refreshing. Ahhhh...." His eyes fluttered closed, a quick blink before he turned his head to look at the mare again. "I can almost taste it, Frost!" Not that water had much taste, but he figured that perhaps if he could get her to focus on the water she would ease up a little and be less afraid of him.

Forgetting to be intimidated by him, she gave the stallion an odd look. Was he mentally ill or something? It made absolutely no sense to her why he was trying to coach her into going to the river. Or did he think she was mentally ill?

Or maybe she wasn't moving fast enough for him.

"If you're really that thirsty, go ahead," she mumbled, dryly.

When she spoke, his head reared up and tilted to one side with a mixed look of surprise and amusement spilling across his features. It was then that Cabaret noticed her odd look, which fit perfectly with what she said, but not at all with what he had seen of this mare so far.

An amused half-smile tugged at his lip as he retorted, "So there is bite inside that shy shell!" But despite his jibe, he continued to walk at her pace, this time leaving out any encouragement, as obviously she had found it offensive. Mentally he shrugged, because he thought he had just been helpful, though in reality he was probably perceived as incredibly rude and insulting.

At the reminder that she had been outspoken, or as close as she'd come yet, she flushed and ducked her head. Like a turtle pulling its head into its shell, she withdrew.

Curse her mouth! Why was it that she always seemed to say the wrong thing the moment she let down her guard? She was always getting into trouble when she didn't pay attention.

"S...s....sorry."

Obviously, Cabaret knew what he was doing and had a reason. It wasn't her place to question or judge him.

Oh no... she had withdrawn again! She didn't stop, but she ducked her head and all inkling of courage drained away from the mare once more. She mumbled an apology, and once again looked terrified and upset.

He took a half-step closer to her before stopping himself. "No, no. Don't apologize!" He spoke softly, a kind look of warmth on his face, trying to be nice and calm, "I was just surprised, that's all!" A small grin found it's way back on his muzzle, "I like a girl with a bit of bite to her!"

She took a half step away to match the one he'd taken toward him, not really thinking much about the movement. She simply maintained the same distance between them. A dark blush stained her cheeks as he tried to encourage her to come out of her shell again.

If it were really that easy, did he really think she wouldn't have done it already?

He didn't realise that he had stepped closer to her until she stepped away the same distance. Mentally he kicked himself but on the outside he remained calm and composed, inviting he hoped too.

She had made it this far! He had seen this mare as a challenge, and boy did he get one. He had never come across a challenge like this before, but it was... pleasant. A nice change of pace from his usual racing and flying at break-neck speeds. Different, definitely, but he liked trying to solve puzzles no matter their shape or size. It was just that his usual puzzles were not... other soquili. They were usually games, dares, races, and the like.

He tilted his head to one side and then lifted it to look at where they were heading. Silent, for the moment, Cabaret continued leading the mare over to the water. They were very close now, and he needed a moment to think. He didn't think she would mind his silence.

She followed, keeping that same distance between them, though the silence did have the advantage of helping her relax. She could never understood why Soquili seemed to insist on talking all the time. A conversation was nice, if she wasn't the focal point, but really.... chatter for the sake of chatter was pointless.

He seemed to have mellowed out a bit, which was nice. Maybe in a few moments, he'd wander off.

Making it to the edge of the water at last, Cabaret glanced over at the mare, looking her over one last time, before deciding that trying to continue this any longer would probably be futile. Or else would result in him being classified as a stalker or something.

He dipped his head down to the cool water and gratefully gulped down many mouthfuls of the stuff. He kept his eyes on his own reflection, trying to figure out what had really happened here and whether or not there was any sort of legitimate reason to stay.... but he couldn't really find one.

At least the water was nice, because he really had been looking for a drink when he came across this mare. But he didn't really understand -at all- why and how she could be soooo shy. Probably something he would never understand though.

At long last, they'd reached the water, gratefully, she drank. Still, she kept one eye on the stallion and noticed when he glanced at her, thoughtfully. She knew that look. She wasn't all that great at reading others most of the time, but that look she'd seen more than a few times. He was trying to figure out how to cut his loses and leave. A tinge of regret flashed through her, but she quickly dismissed it.

This was for the best, she told herself. Once he was gone, she could enjoy the peace and quiet again.

After a few more moments of silent drinking, he finally had to admit defeat. He hated doing it, but at this point he really didn't see a way of winning. He had done what he could, talked, joked, followed, persisted, but still this mare would not come out of her shell. But no matter what he thought of, none of it seemed any more likely to work than anything he had already tried. He had no more ideas. It was time for him to leave.

Lifting his head he looked at the mare once more, really trying to memorize her image, hoping to come across her again. Maybe the next time he would be able to come up with something that would finally get her to show some of her true colors. He would remember this area, and this mare, and this ultimate loss would always be something he seeked to defeat.

He cleared his throat and spoke clearly, calmly, "I must be on my way, Frost. Maybe one day the wind will lift your voice for others to hear. I have a feeling it's a beautiful one." He smiled and winked real quick before backing up a few steps and pumping his wings once, twice, before lifting into the air and flying away with a grace like any practiced bird, and he was on his way to find the next challenge to conquer.

She watched him go with no little relief. It was nice that he hadn't attacked her, but she was still glad that he was gone. She was meant for the solitary life, and that was exactly what she kept telling herself as she picked her way along the riverside.

Well... it was clearly time to move on from this area, least he decided to come back.
