He sidestepped, the ground creaking enough to make him wince. He slowly moved to the side. Just one step as he wasn't about to go tramping about and going into another spiderweb or any other places that would make him start flailing about - even if Zink laughing would give away his position. He had too much pride for that.

The idea of being in a team, not lower or higher than any other captain, was appealing enough. He needed practice. Not only to adjust but to be the best. Castor was still an Eternal. He was a Captain. There was a gap in their levels and he wanted to overcome that. The sooner, the better, and for his own purpose, having a constant source of training to hit up was only an asset to him. Still, he couldn't help feel he was being placed in someone's charge.

"That sounds good....I can't say I'm against it." Not only was it good for him, but these 'tactics' that Zink was speaking of only sounded promising for him, for them, and for the Negaverse if it meant more surefire victories. If anything, larger starseed hauls were always great.

"In the meantime, I can think about recruiting." If anything, he might be able to handle a small team. One...two people? He wasn't sure, but leaving a Lieutenant on their own during these times was dangerous. The ratio to senshi to negaverser was a large problem for them after all.

He threw his weapon out to the left, away from the Captain, working his weapon around the room and fishing for a target.

"So long as we make sure the team knows who answer primarily to whom between us, I think you could safely recruit while you work with mine if you are interested." Zink offered and kept moving till he was around to what he had last judged as 'behind' Wolfram, listening for that chain and knife cutting through the air.

Once he was fairly certain of his positioning he moved to straiten and stand behind wolfram and tried to put the other Captain into a head lock. Somehow Wolfram always seemed as though he should be shorter than he was.

Before he heard the creek of aged wood behind him, he felt the hands wrap about his throat. First instinct was to grip the arms blocking his breathing, but that was always the fatal flaw. Panicking and grabbing blinding at a arm did no good. He knew that. Maybe Zink forgot to write it in his little book or never found out, but Ladon had taken self defense. Headlocks were their own chapter to which he practiced many times.

While slightly taller, Ladon had always been in
the mindset that everyone was bigger than he was, and that he should never attempt to lift someone up. So, he did what even a short person could do. He reached up to grip Zink's thumb, the weakest point in a hand hold, and pulled back on it, while his other arm, the one holding his weapon, he threw his elbow back to hit Zink in the stomach. If all else failed, well, he had knives.

"That works." he said through clenched teeth.

Zink hissed through his teeth at the prying sensation on his thumb and then exhaled sharply at the elbow slamming home.
"Christ... " He cursed and aimed a punch at wolfram's lower back just off his spine.
"Glad you approve" he wheezed. "Did ...you have anyone you were hoping to recruit? I'm afraid..." He shifted turning to put one him against the base of Wolfram's back, both to get his thumb back and so he could prepare his own next move.

"That I've taken a few people already."

Their was still some degree of playfulness to their otherwise serious and dangerous fighting, and Wolfram gasped out at being punched in the back. Pain singing, he had lost his grip on Zinkenite's thumb and noticed he was being moved. Unsure if this was a good or bad thing (but when was it ever good?), he started to collect his weapon, getting it ready to throw. If he was kept in this hold, he'd either loose his breath or be punched again.

"I haven't met too many..." He gasped. "...lieutenants. I need to see who's ...available."
The chain moved in his hands as he worked to gather enough length and , spinning a short end, tried to throw it over his side to let the knife before pulling it as well, hoping it would hit something.

Zink shifted his weight sharply 'popping' his hip forward and lifting with it to hoist the weight with minimal effort, then turning, across himself to swing Wolfram as best he could OVER that hip in an effort to throw him, it would he hoped, minimize the risk of the knives, and the effectiveness of the chain, and it was a move that wolfram too could put to good use should someone come up on his blind side.

"That -is- A problem..." he said as he lifted and turned. In all honesty his form could have been better, but it WAS hard to see and what he truly needed was to sign up for a class on Judo...and ventriloquism, to maximize his abilities and strengths.

The world had switched over to World Wrestling as the other nega was lifted, tossed, and thrown over Zink's hip to slam down onto the ground. The entire floor vibrated with the impact as dust threw up from all sides. Between coughing and a few painful moans, Wolframite managed to pull himself to his side and slowly back up again. Not a quick recovery, but this was still practice and he knew he could get away with it. He'd be more serious if it happened in a real life-or-death battle.

Holding his back, and much more dusty, Wolframite wasn't looking grand. There was a cobweb in his hair he missed from before, and his black uniform showed the layer of dust that was now on his uniform.

"Good one." he managed through gritted teeth. He rubbed his back before leaning down and taking his weapon. "...how did you meet your recruits?" He said, starting to spin the end of the chain.

"Fayalite... actually gave us a ride once, Selenite, at a meeting and Zircon, after one..." He coughed and freed one hand to wave the dust from his face.
"Thank you...how are you holding up." He said ever so polite but still edgy for the retaliation.
"I've asked my team to recommend parties as well... if I have to I'll work them into shape...too many of the new recruits don't see the point of following orders."
His arm where it had been nicked ached and he winced slightly, dust, he rather suspected had gotten into it, rather inevitable, but all the same uncomfortable.

"Oh, fine. Fine. I can handle being thrown." He rubbed at his one free eye through, and only lightly touched his eye-patch. All seemed well. He only worried his replacement would loosen or something would bleed, but everything was fine. If he had wanted to give Zink restrictions by saying no large impacts like being thrown, he would have, but he didn't want that. He was just grateful his stupid decision hadn't really done some damage. A hurt rib or major bruise was fine by him.

He straightened slowly, and continued to spin the chain. Zink was talking a lot, which meant he was giving away his position. "What about you? Can you deal with being stabbed?" This was a warning. He wasn't going to fatally wound his comrade, but a nick on the leg would be good payback.

"I hardly met many Negas that weren't already on a team. I meet more senshi than one of us. I know a few, but they are already captains." He had been the new guy till now. As a Captain, it was strange to think he would be anyone superior, anyone's senior, in any regard.

"I can't say I enjoy it, but it -is- your attack, I'd prefer not to be hospitalized from a spar if that's QUITE alright though." he said with a flick of a grin as the smoke settled again.

"I dare say your a better shot than when I started with my sling shot as well." He nodded, though he had little doubt that wolfram himself had struggled with his jump rope.

"It's a lot different to rope and wooden handles, but it's still a little bit the same. At least I know how to throw it without having the ends whip up and knock my head, but the knives don't weight as much as the wooden handles to the jump rope did. I should have practiced with that weapon more often. I usually didn't bother." It was more embarrassing to bring out a jump rope as a weapon, but seeing as he heard that weapons upgraded from previous ones, he made the attempt to learn about his weapon. It was just hard when there really wasn't a handle and you didn't throw it at someone. It required a lot of swinging, timing, and making sure you didn't let the momentum at the ends come back to do damage to yourself.

He aimed for the captain and smiled. "A little nick then?" he asked, and then threw....and missed. It sailed several inches away from Zinkenite and hit the floor. His attacks never seemed to align precisely.Huffing, he pulled the weapon back. If it wasn't for a big target like the chest or midsection, he usually was out of luck. Accuracy was something he didn't have right now.

Zink shifted slightly as the blade flew past. "You got lucky earlier if that makes you feel better." he said and flicked the cut in his sleeve.
"Depth perception?" He added tilting his head curious as to how much difference it made. His eyes narrowed considering...
"Try again, see what it takes for you to adjust to what you want to hit... though, do try and be 'off' in a direction that doesn't involve anything vital."

"Yeah. Depth Perception." The big DP. He would either be off on his accuracy or things wouldn't be as close to him as he thought. It meant swinging his blade could often miss or just nick something and he sometimes was an inch or more off a target. With something as slender as a leg, those were important inches he couldn't miss. With a chest, it meant hitting something vital - like a heart - to something just very painful instead.

He yanked back and grabbed the chain when it came to him, and worked to spin it again, creating the momentum the blade needed. Then, with a kind of underhand throw and release, it whistled through the air and hit closer to Zink's leg, the chain brushing the tight fabric of his pants and kicking up some wind. His jacket now had a hole near the bottom. Close - very close - but no cut. He pulled his weapon back to him.

"I practice with cans to get it down." He added, which was all he could do on his own. "But I can't keep adjusting when I'm fighting. Targets move, and cans don't."
PostPosted: Wed Nov 03, 2010 5:22 pm

Zink at least had the good grace to look more edgy with each progressively closer miss.
"Depends on the target. I'm sure I could set up targets that move... it's the trick of making them move erratically that I can't quite manage on short notice. "

He looked considering and then suddenly held out his hand. "Let me see it for a moment? Perhaps we could make you something a little less pointed so that we could practice with recruits and not accidentally kill someone, at least until you master your direction...it will give us all good practice with dodging too."

He looked at his weapon and walking over, handed it to the other Captain. When the chain was light in Wolfram's hands, it was incredibly heavy. It was a sort of insurance for Negaverse weapons to not be wielded by anyone else but the user. Still, as both a Nega and a Captain, it wasn't as heavy as it would be for, say, a senshi.

"You mean like a sort of casing over the knives to keep them dull?" He was following his train of thought and looked at the knives. They weren't massive and something probably could be done to cover them. "I'll measure them and see if I can find something that would slide over them. Something that won't break if they hit something or someone." Which would defeat the purpose.

He liked the idea of using his own training to train others with dodging, and for now, covering his weapon would help him if he wanted to try out those more dangerous moves without hurting himself.

Pursing his lips, he looked back at the Captain. "I understand why you're a captain. You're really smart with this sort of stuff." Not like him. He didn't think of the strategies and tactics that Zink often mentioned.
