Sabella had done her very best not to flinch as the other mare touched her. Over all she was certain that she had been successful at the disgust she felt from being touched by something so...unclean. Years of training left her quite capable of hiding a good deal of things, like displeasure. It was not her place to question others at all. Not their motives, not their dreams, not their poor manners and certainly not how frequently they chose to bathe. When the other came up to her and pressed against her she hid her true reaction once more. Though, while keeping it off her face was easy keeping it out of her stomach was not. She was going to need a very long bath after this encounter she just knew it.

Careful to mind her manners despite unpleasant circumstances she managed to open her mouth and say, "Th...thank you...I....I a-appreciate it." This much was genuine. What the pink maned mare had said to the foul little bird had made her remember something she had overheard when she was a child. It was something a traveler had said, he had called himself a scholar. The elders had denied everything at the time but now Sabella was beginning to wonder if there was some truth to his words. He had said that kirin were sometimes made ill just by seeing blood and that really sensitive ones could get sick only from smelling it. That seemed to be what was happening to her...but how could that be? It simply made no sense for the elders to lie.

She shook her head very gently closing her eyes softly. No, such things were silly. She must have caught something in the night that was beginning to bother her now was all. Having never seen a dead body before must have frozen her in place with fear. It was all just coincidence.

"No problem, really." Carmine said offhand while checking that Wolf had her feet planted firmly. It was really no surprise that the tan mares footing, as usual, seemed better than Carmine's. It was one of the things that the thief had always wondered about. Some days her footing was so good that she could take an all out tackle from a foal and not shift an inch. One thing was certain, Carmine was glad that Wolf was on her side. She would hate to have to find out how tough she really was.

Determined to keep things as casual as possible so it seemed less like work Carmine picked up their conversation again while pushing the kirin mare along. "Sure you do...ya almost have the same tail." She chirped wondering vaguely why it was so hard to move a mare that was so small. It was something she could ponder on the trip. It wasn't far to the nearest stream and that seemed like a perfectly acceptable place to stop at. Everyone stopped by water to rest after all.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As evening approached Carmine was about ready to kill the stupid kirin they had decided to help. Almost to the halfway point the little b***h had up and fainted on them. She had some freakin nerve doing something like that. They'd had to carry her the rest of the way switching places every time one of them got tired. All Carmine could say was that the mare was damn lucky that she wasn't any bigger or she would've hung her idea and left her.

Still in the shade of the trees Carmine lead Wolf, who was currently playing the role of the pack mule, to a little pond. "Drop her in there and wake her a** up." She barked a truly sour look on her face.

Wolf sighed a little. At the moment she just wanted to drop the mare right where she was standing and keel over. The lion tailed mare was not weak and she was not stupid either. She had noticed how short Carmine's turns had been while hers dragged on for ages. If Raven had been there he would have pointed out the unfairness of the situation. Wolf didn't bother to point it out. The pink maned mare was likely well aware that she was being unfair, but she would only chalk it up to her being Boss and that would be that. As Wolf dragged herself and the unconscious kirin she was beginning to wonder if they should have never started calling her "Boss" in the first place. Was it to late to take it back?

When she reached the pond's edge, rather than stopping and turning to slide her passenger off, she plodded right into the cool water. It felt wonderful on her heated and tired muscles. Without a moments hesitation she shook herself roughly until the sleeping mare slid off her back and into the water with a loud splash and a dull thud.

Wolf hoped that the strange mare would wake up because while the water barely came up to her knees she knew that was enough to drown in if a person kept their head under it.

Sabella had been having a strange but wonderful dream. She had been riding on a cloud above the earth. At first the ride had been very gentle like a leaf gliding across the surface of a puddle but it had steadily been growing rougher. Stranger than that she had begun hearing voices of invisible people. It sounded like the crass mare and her lackey that had helped her.

A pair of liquid golden eyes opened slowly. Her cloud was trembling like a tree in a violent storm. By the time she realized that her cloud was not a cloud at all but the tan colored mare it was to late. Letting an indignant cry slip out she dropped directly into the water and muck that awaited her bellow. The young kirin could not decide what was worse, the painful landing or the mud and foul water that she was now covered with. One thing was certain though she now needed a bath so much more than she had before.

Taking a few deep breaths to steady herself and keep from speaking to freely she stood. Looking around she could see that they were nowhere near where she could remember and the sun was falling from the sky. She couldn't quite tell what was going on. "...Might...might I ask...where we are?" She questioned as she did her best to remove the muck without flinging it every which way.

"Good morning princess." Carmine cooed sarcastically as she watched the pretty mare slide into the pond water. It wasn't that she was purposefully trying to make an a** out of herself. It was just something that she was painfully good at. She got a surprising kick out of watching the mare they'd dragged halfway out of the woods drop like a stone into water that she had no intentions of going anywhere near. It was almost like revenge. Sweet sweet revenge.

"You are currently in a small pond a good, I dunno, four...five miles away from where we found your sorry a**." It didn't take a genius to figure out that she was in a bad mood. "So yaaaay...you're safe...congratulations. Now how about we discuss the sensitive matter of payment. We helped you outta a pretty tight pinch there missy and we could've just left you for whatever beasty wanted an easy lunch back where you fainted. But we didn't, I think you owe us something."

Perhaps it would have been better to beat around the bush a little before getting to this matter. These things were often delicate. However, Carmine was sick of the mare and just wanted to go, now. This was the time for straight shooting not p***y footing. If she couldn't pay then Carmine was out of there. The kirin would be fine alone.

To Wolf it seemed that things might get messy quickly and it wasn't just because of the gunk stuck to the kirin. While her father was completely inept at reading situations she wasn't half bad. She was just bad at handling them even when she could tell what was going on.

Obviously she was meant to take Carmine's side since Carmine was her boss. However, she wasn't sure she liked the idea of extorting someone they'd just help. Especially not since she'd only just woken up. Calling on her for a favor a little ways down the road would have been fine but not right at this second.

Part of her hoped that Carmine knew what she was doing even though Wolf was well aware that she probably didn't have a clue.

For one fleeting moment Sabella was fool enough to believe that she was still dreaming. She had seen her fair share of blunt soquili in the past but this butterfly marked mare took it to an entirely different level. She could not believe the nerve this mare was showing and was suddenly very grateful that winds were such a rarity in her home. She had to force her mind still for once. It was not proper to think such things. Taking in a few more steadying breaths she flicked her bull-like tail to rid it of mud. Then with amazing grace she stepped out of the water to stand on the shore. Her hooves were still coated in mud as were her legs, for the moment she would just have to leave it.

"I thank you for your help, I am truly grateful, but...I am afraid I have nothing to offer you in return for your aide." Her face was as still as a frozen pond and her voice was even. It was not entirely true. She had one potential thing to offer though she still felt weak from whatever had ailed her earlier that day. It was something she still could not explain but whatever it was had been strong enough to force her into a state of unconsciousness. Whatever it was was a danger to her that was certain. She only hoped she never had to endure it again.

"Perhaps if you were to seek me out at a later time I might have something to give you. For now...I am afraid I only have my gratitude." To display her sincerity she bowed her head low. She did mean it even if she didn't particularly wish to run into the pair ever again.

Carmine snorted and tossed her head. She really should have known better. "Save it for someone who cares honey." She snapped brown eyes growing surprisingly cold. This was the last time she ever helped a stranger without payment up front. It had all been a gigantic waste of her time. She could have spent the day snoozing away or prepping for something that would actually pay off. The second she got home she was going to boot the bird out for starting this entire little 'adventure'.

With a loud snap she quickly unfurled her wings sending a small shower of loose feathers to the ground. "Have fun on your own kirin." She muttered beating her wings hard before leaping into the air. Pumping the appendages quickly she gained altitude until she was able to circle the clearing above the trees.

"Wolf. Get back as quickly as possible. I'm outta here." She called down to the tan mare before riding the currents off towards their little base of operations. She was so sick of the day that she wished it would just die.

Wolf sighed as she watched everything fall apart faster than a dead leaf in a hail storm. It was just as she had expected. Carmine was pissed and the kirin mare didn't seem to care. Really that mare didn't seem to care about anything. Wolf couldn't recall ever seeing her really react to anything excepting when she was dropped. Strange.

While she wanted to stick around and figure out what made the weird mare tick she didn't think ignoring Carmine was the best idea at the moment. Without a word to the scaled mare or even a parting glance she darted out of the water and into the forest her tail swaying behind her like a cat's. Even running at top speed it would take her at least an hour to return. She didn't imagine Carmine would think that even that was fast enough.

Wolf was in for an exhausting night.

As both of the strange pair vanished Sabella relaxed a little. She moved away from the water and into the trees for some cover. She felt better now but she felt like all her energy had been sucked out of her body despite her little nap of sorts. Lowering her body gently to the ground she allowed her eyes to slide shut. She needed rest now more than anything. She just prayed that the winged mare hadn't been right about the "beasties" that lurked in the woods. Without a sound she curled her tail around her and let her head rest on her forelegs. It took no more than a few moments before she slipped off to her cloud again to continue recovery.
