He blinked. "N-no!" he sputtered. He hadn't realized that his generally shy demeanor could offend anyone. "It...It's not you!" But what was it, then? He realized he hadn't a clue. Why did he always avoid contact with others? "I just... I mean... Sorry." A long encounter like this was not exactly something he knew how to handle, and every time he spoke, he sputtered with embarrassment.
There was something strange about this watery doe, for sure. He certainly would have--should have, even!--turned tail and ran by now, just as he normally did. But something about her calm demeanor, and the graceful soothing notes in her voice was pacifying him.

Grace didn't want to freak him out, but apparently that was inevitable. She figured he didn't actually know what made him the way he was. She was surprised he hadn't left yet, with the way he was acting.
Giving him a moment or two to get what he could of himself together, Grace looked him straight in the eyes. "I wouldn't hurt you ever. You do not have to be afraid of me." He probably didn't believe her, but that didn't make what she said any less sincere.

Decay sighed. It wasn't a sound of annoyance, no, but one of mixed emotions. Confusion, a lack of willingness to stay, coupled with a body that wouldn't let him leave. What a strange power this doe had. This was going nowhere, and fast. If for whatever mystical reason he couldn't leave, then talking would be the only remaining option. Hah! Funny thing there, conversation was not a very powerful skill of his.
"What..." He paused, trying to think of the least rude way to say what was on his mind. Nothing came. "...Do you want?" He tilted an eyebrow, trying to put on a rather unconvincing facade of manliness.

Her ears had been perked up the entire time, but after he'd said something as blunt and awful as that, they laid against her head. She didn't know how to answer that question at all. To her, he was basically asking her to leave with that question, so she sighed. "Fine. I get it. I won't bother you any longer," she says, turning around and walking off. Needless to say she was slightly pissed, but that didn't get in the way of her ghostly tone or movements.

"S-sorry," the buck mumbled apologetically as she began to move away. He should have been glad, right? This was all awkward and scary for him. He should be glad to be alone! But he felt bad, hurt that he had hurt someone else. An all too common fear, pushing him back from the rest of the world without his knowledge.
He sighed again, his voice softer and sadder than before. Well, that chance was blown, he was sure of it. He watched to see if she would come back, his eyes tilted upwards with a distant fog of sadness. If not, at least he could perhaps hear that wonderful song again.

Grace didn't want to go back and did at the same time. There was something about that buck that drew her to him. But, she kept her ground. Still, she stole a sad glance back at him before disappearing between the shadows again, her ghostly shadow the only evidence that she was ever there at all.
Why was it that every kimeti she met was afraid of her and acted like they didn't want her around? It made her want to be like them, save her from her feelings getting hurt anymore by other kimeti. Sadly, she started to sing again, more melancholy than before. Why did she always wear her heart on her sleeve? She didn't know. Sighing to herself, she felt the rain come again.

The buck kicked himself mentally. Another screw-up. He should have been used to it by now, that inevitable fact that his awkward nature would drive everyone away.
He turned, walking in the opposite direction as he felt the rain on his back again. Coupled with this new downpour was a sad, but not all unfamiliar song. It wrenched at his heartstrings making him feel as sad inside as the notes seemed to sound. The beat of his heart was painful, as though his body was trying to tell him to run after her.
And he did.

Thunder crashed and lightning flashed as Grace's song carried on the wind. She wished there was somewhere dry to lie down. She'd been traveling a while and the new sadness upon her was wearing on her. Shaking herself off, she got most of the mud and water off her, only in time to let more drench her fur, making her shiver with the cold. Looking around, she found a hollow, kind of like.....she shook her head. Don't think about him, she thought. Jumping into the hollow, she instantly felt the dryness that came with it. To pass the time, she kept her song up, but it was quieter, as she was tiring. Still shivering, she watched the storm go on outside...

Decay ran, and ran, and ran some more. Raindrops smacked endlessly into his back, and poured off his fur into the wind. He was following a slowly fading song, the notes like strings tying him to this one single doe.
And then the song vanished. It was gone to his ears, the only remnants memories in the merciless wind. He realized that he'd gone in a circle--he was right back where he started earlier that day. The hollow he'd hidden in to bask in the sweet smell of the rain was within sight. Feeling quite dejected, he slowly trotted towards it. Was he hearing those sad notes again? Growing louder as he grew nearer? No, that was impossible...

Grace was beginning to fall asleep. She continued her song, as she tried to warm up in the freezing hollow, but to no avail. She thought she heard galloping footsteps coming closer to her, but she thought it was just a dream, or a trick of the thunder playing in the sky.

Decay stifled a gasp as he ducked his head into the hollow. There she lay, the watery doe, shivering and soaked and just barely croaking out sad notes.
It wasn't til he saw this sad sight that he realized just how cold he was. He began to shake and shiver himself, his body crying for the warmth he had forgotten about in his curiosity. It was a bold move, especially for him, but he crept into the hollow and laid next to her. Perhaps their combined body heat would be enough til they dried off, he thought.

Grace looked up to find Decay had come back. He crept into the hollow with her, regardless of the snug fit, and lied down. The warmth of his body against her was relieving. Making a bold move herself, she situated herself to lie up against him, resting her head next to his. Smiling at him, she jumped as thunder crashed and lightning lit up the sky, frightened.

Decay smiled the most honest smile he had in quite a long time. "Don't be scared," he laughed, his voice shaking as he shivered. "It's quite a soothing sound if you let it be." He paused, his eyes distant. "Like the beating of your heart." The faintest tone of a soft pink blush swept over his face. "O-or the rhythm of a drum...T-that too..." He looked away from her, slightly embarrassed.

Grace smiled and nudged Decay. "Do not be afraid to say what is on your mind. " Moving closer to him, both trying to warm herself up along with him, she smiled again. "What made you return?"

His body was stiff from the cold, and partially from this odd feeling of contact with another. As she spoke, he could feel his joints relaxing, and he unwittingly let out a long sigh, like taking his first breath.
"I just...felt bad," he said after a moment of thought. "Though I thought I'd lost you, so I kind of found my way back here..." He laughed a tiny, quiet laugh. "Funny how these things work out."
