Rom hadn't been called by that name in years. It was a refreshing flashback. "Why, I remember the very day you were born, Winnie. You have certainly grown up into a fine young woman." Romulus replied in his sexy Jeremy Irons voice. "My reason for calling Phaedra here is quite simply to give her a gift."
Fay stepped out from behind Winnie, her sword still drawn. "You hate my father. You tried to murder him and take over the Empire. Then you allied with a foreign enemy force with the intent to bring down every nation in the galaxy! Why should I accept anything from you?"

"Fay, stay back." she warned, hands raised and pine-green fire flickering. Back at the Estate, her breathing grew shallower as she transferred more and more power into her astral form (perhaps a little too much).

"Oh Winnie, you're so much like your mother. Stubborn and always trying to bite off more than she can chew." Rom didn't need to channel any energy. The amount he had was just enough. He casually strolled up to Winnie's astral form and put a finger to her forehead. The half-elven would feel a particularly nasty power surge. It would only incapacitate her for a short while.

Winnie had just enough time to cry out in pain before her astral form exploded into specks of pine-green light. Agony ran through her spirit as she desperately tried to piece herself back together, but she was too far from her body to summon any more energy and too scared to properly control her powers-
But there was another force, supporting her, keeping the both of them invisible as the half-elven recovered her strength.
If you're going to be doing foolish things like this, I can't have you doing them alone.

Fay's eyes widened as Winnie disappeared. Hey look of fear quickly turned to anger when she looked at Rom. "You b*****d! I'll kill you!" she screamed and ran at the Betrayer. Of course, she was no match for Rom. With a quick movement of his staff, he disarmed her. Pride of Anghor went clattering to the ground and Fay went to her knees in shock.
The Betrayer lifted her chin with his staff so that her gaze met his. "You certainly are Remus' daughter, attacking head on like that. I expected better of you."
Tears began to fall from her eyes again. "If you want to kill me, just do it already."
But to her surprise, Rom withdrew his staff. "That would be a waste. You have too much potential."

Winnie still drifted in darkness, her awareness only just registering the fact that she was still out of her body but held, supported by a familiar energy. Pain still wracked her spirit, but it was muted, far away, as if separated from her by a sheet of glass.
She barely heard Fay's cries.

"I'm not going to be a puppet for your schemes, Uncle." Fay replied sadly.
"There is no scheme. I'm getting old, Fay. All the grand plans were undone by your parents, the Bainbridge nobles, Cort's son and your beloved Aunt Alnette. I simply do not have the energy left to carry on with it."
Fay wiped her eyes. "So what does this all have to do with me?"
"Simple. I'm transferring my power to you. That is my gift."

"What...but I?" Fay was confused, hearing two things at once. "I don't want your magic...I don't have the right kind of build to use it."
That's where Rom began laughing. "Magic? My dear, I am not giving you magic. I am giving you the secrets of the Prizmids. The most advanced race to ever inhabit the galaxy!"
"Until they died out millenniums before any species today crawled from the caves."
"Yes..corruption and war was their undoing. But they left behind their secrets for you to discover. Think of the Empire. Think of how you could bring your citizens happiness and arm your military with weapons that no force could ever counter. You would surpass your father as a Supreme Imperatrix."
"Maybe...but the throne is going to Will. He's the male after all."
Rom's smile faded. "That incompetent goat kid? No, no, no. Remus must be insane. You are clearly the better candidate for the throne. But I think he will notice that in time when he discovers that his future son just wants to rut with the Bainbridge girl."
Fay opened her mouth to reply, but shut it, unsure of what to say. She wanted to run, but something was tempting her to stay.

Winnie finally summoned up the strength to reform her projection. The elf-girl's form flickered in and out of focus as she tried to keep it together. "Fay, what do you think you're doing? Run!"

Fay snapped out of it and began to run for the corridor. However, she was abruptly halted when two black obelisks with red runes erupted from the ground in front of her. She gasped as they lit up and red lightning held her there.
"It seems painful now, but you will thank me later for this. I can guarantee it."
The obelisks rose with Fay floating along with them. The girl struggled and begged to set free.
Rom pointed his staff at her and lightning began to come out of his eyes and travel up his arm into the staff. "Young Imperatrix, this is my gift to you!"
And with that, a third arc of lightning surged into Fay.

"FAY!" Winnie cried, launching herself into the air, trying to intercept the lightning before it struck the younger girl-
Only to find her father's arm around her chest, keeping her back.
"FAY!"

Phaedra's eyes and veins glowed as Rom's energies took hold within her and integrated themselves into her system. Fay stopped crying out and just seemed to hang there limply.
Meanwhile, Rom's hair and beard had completely grayed out. The Betrayer ceased and Fay gently began to float to the ground. Rom caught her in one arm. The obelisks soon began to crumble, as did the rest of the mausoleum. Romulus causally began to walk down the corridor with Fay as the structure started collapsing behind him.

Both elder and younger Bainbridge appeared beside Romulus, keeping pace with him even as the mausoleum crumbled around them. Winnie reached for Fay, but Hrothbert kept her back. "Romulus. It's been a while."

Romulus smiled slightly. "It has, Hrothbert. A long time indeed. Can't say I missed you much. Is Emma doing alright?"
Fay was only just beginning to stir again.
