I remember a few more things:
-The time one of the trmpet players, a good friend of mine, was in the hospital. We had a band-wide moment of silence, and we all welcomed him back when he got back. He enver told us why he was in he hospital though...
-The other day, the eigth graders had a fieldtrip to our school. Whiel they filed into the auditorium, we played the fight soong and a stands tune and did the dance at the end of our fightsong. it was high energy, and all the eigth graders who really watched us dance were smiling and overall looking like they were enjoying our performance.
-Last amrchig season, the 2009 season, the stadium lights went out the week before state marching competition. Luckily, they went out on tuesday, and we only have night rehearsals on mondays. However, because of it, we had to have an away home game the next two weeks at two different schools for playoffs. But we had a great eperformance and mad eit to satate championships marching competition. That entire week leading up to one of the ggest competitions any of us had ever been to(first year our state has done champs) we had to rehearse in the dark. That friday, even though it was a 'home" game, we didnt go because we had to be at school at 4 am on saturday, so we had a rehearsal. because we missed eighth grade night, where they were suppsoed to come and play in the stands with us, we invited them to our friday rehearsal. they got to watch us marchign in pitch black night, with alternates shining windup flashlights on the dms so we could see them. It was epic.
-the monday before the above story, as the lights were out as well, we had to rehearse on the practice field, which is lightless anyway. The BD, drumline instructor, bari sax player, colorguard isntructor and dm all drove their cars onto the baseball field, which is connected to the practice field, and turned their headlights on.
-The weather hates us. Arizona has such weird weather patterns. These are always fun times with the band. Like one morning rehearsal where it decided it was going to rain on us. The sky was clear. All of a sudden, it starts pouring. Not a cloud in the sky. bd: "woodwinds, run", and the woodwinds chqarged the band room. Then we were rehearsing before our first festival. We are in a circle stretching, and a huge gust of wind coem sotu of nowhere and enarly blows everyone down, it was so strong and unexpected. It picks up, but we try to gnore it. Well, we get out our instruments and attempt to make a concert arc. Out of the corner of my eye, I see all 4 tubas strugglign to get to their spots. One flew up in the air! the cool part was that half the band ran over and tried to help them. we ended up going inside.

My favorite was when literally the entire band fell during a show. We were it 5 lines, going side to side, apparently the person in front went too slow, caused a chain reaction......it was bad....I kept playing though

This weekend in its entirety showed me once again why I love marching band so much. :]
So, this was our first time at grand nationals ever. Just going in the tunnel to go to our warm up area in Lucas Oil was amazing. We passed one of the tunnels that led to the field- when we all saw the field, I'm pretty sure everyone started smiling.
Next was at our visual warm up. Our visual warm up was in the same room as L.D. Bell's music warm up (we were separated by a curtain xd ), so we had to scream count to hear ourselves. Everyone was focused like crazy, we got an awesome speech from our head visual tech, and listening to L.D. Bell gave me goosebumps.
Music warm up was just amazing, because we sounded the best we ever have. We have around 34 wind players, and my director was talking to one of the BOA staff members- the BOA guy said that we have a really big sound for such a small band. =D
Then there's the performance...we may not have made semis, but our prelim performance was our best performance ever. The hit of our closer is a company front (except we're marching backwards xd ), and I was focusing on the drum major. Our director was in the stands, and right before the hit, you could see her getting more excited and excited...when the hit came, I saw her just start bawling. (She gets really sentimental about us. =] ) Coming off the field after my solo (I got to end the show!) she was still crying, and the entire thing was just one huge great moment. Performing in Lucas Oil stadium is probably the coolest thing I've ever done, and we probably won't go to Grand Nationals again next year (my senior year) because it's too much money...maybe I'll get to march drum corps someday and perform there again?
But really, I love most everything about band. We were sitting in the stands watching finals, and our staff had seats near us, too...I love listening to their banter. xd It was one of those times where I loved everyone involved with my band...even the band members that usually annoy me to death.

The one thing that makes me feel so proud and glad to be in marching band:
When we do an excellent job of performing, whether at competition or a game. It makes me warm with pride whenever I know that we did our very best when we perform, because really, I think performing it in front of an audience that appreciates your show makes it all worth while.

The roar of the crowd at the high points of your performance, the sense of unity you feel when you accomplish something, and those emotional moments at Band Banquet as you say goodbye to seniors yet know they'll still be there in a way... heart

I have many favorite moments from this season but my all time favorite was the night of our last comp. We lost, and since we didn't qualify for champs our season was officially over, I was upset the whole bus ride back to school. After we put away all the equipment and changed out of uniform we had our traditional Senior Circle. It's where all our seniors (only 8, we're a small band) stand in front of the band and say something sentimental. It was beautiful, they all said some really heartfelt things, some people were crying, it made me realize how much we all care about our band and our band-family. After everything I didn't care that we lost or about the comp or the trophies. I only hope that one day I 'll be one of those seniors. heart

Wow, guys, I really loved reading your stories smile I love sharing the band love with a whole bunch of other people who are so passionate about the same things that you are. heart
And now the season is over...it's sad. It was my first year as drum major (and a sophomore too!) and I survived! razz I'm usually pretty quiet. But my year as drum major has totally changed me as a person. For the better! I'm so proud that I was able to spend that time with my band and I only hope that I have as much of an impact on them as they had on me this season.

Yeah, I've had those moments. State was probably the most epic because, I mean, it was State. The first football game in uniform was awesome though too. You just feel so..powerful because everyone is moving in unison and everything. I loveddd it! I'm a freshman so I was like, "o:", the whole time. xD

Anytime we'd be getting our uniforms on it'd be so much fun because we'd just be sticking on everything and the musics blarring people are dancing to it, and singing along it's just so much fun!

One word: Battle Playing in the stands and marching during half time are the best times ever. Especially if its against a rival school, and that rival just happens to have stolen some of our songs...thats when we fight back, and yes we always win. ^ ^. Both drumlines compete against one another, and the rest of us dances. Traveling during the night, is also fun. Most of our teachers (or staff) dont even notice what happens at the back of the bus...some crazy stuff be happening...if you know what I mean... wink I mean...band is the most perverted place to be in...our band anyways...

-Dr. Who wars. A lot of the abnds here play the hey ong as a stands tune, and everytime two bands get together at a game that play it, they have Dr. Who wars. One band will start it(usually the away) and then the other band is suppsoed to play it back. Theres never a winner, but the goal is to be louder and better thent he other band, and to dance more. We did this a lot the past two years, but this year the director was new and evil, and instead of Dr. Who wars, if she even let us play at all after a challenge, we would play the fight song.
-Dunno if I already posted this, but: for the first football game of the year, we had a "big" pep rally, and so the band marched around the school in a big group, playign in the halls and totally disrupting the classes. Well, we get to the opposite side of the school, and realize we have less then a minute to be in the auditorium across school to play as people walk in. the director sends the drumline and sousas off, and then turns to the rest of us. She tells us to run to the auditorium. Well, our trumpet sl plays a revelry on his trumpet, the entire band yells "Charge!" and a mass of 70 people literally charges across school. By noiw, everyone was heading towards the auditorium. Needless to say, they parted to let us through. We were all laughing and yelling and were really pumped up. It was awesome bcuse everyone was wearign yellow band shirts.
