Dimas shook her head, "Oh no...I don't have a roommate. At lest not yet...I even have a mattress we can sit on so we do not have to sit on the floor." She moved past him and threw the door her hand tugging encouragingly for his body to follow. "Do you have a roommate?" She asked as she made her way down the darkened halls her glow reaching out to try and kiss the walls but not reaching quiet that far from her body. Her hand wrapped around his gave off a slightly orange glow.
This was the first time she would have a guy in her room ever. Even when she was normal and home she had never had a boy in her room. She gave a small smile at the thought. Somehow when you were locked up in an asylum certain things seemed too loose their meaning or worth in a way. Surely if she were allowed to finish off her high school she would have had a good joke about a handsome guy having come into her room at night. Heck she was sure her friends back home would love Photinus glow and all. Her mind wrapped up in they way she would joke with her friends wondered if there were other places on his body that his bright glow shown threw. Her cheeks deepened their red color. What thoughts to think...she was sure that the firefly would not find them as funny.

"Oh... no, I don't have a room mate either." He wondered vaguely how many patients had none. This situation was really just too bizarre. It shouldn't matter. He was used to having so little privacy back home that it shouldn't have mattered, but here at the asylum to invite someone into their room was like entrusting one with their life. Could he truly have allowed Dimas into his room, or would he have found them an abandoned one and told her it was his? Of course, he was a terrible liar, she would have realized it and no doubt she would be hurting badly if he betrayed her like that.
And his thoughts turned to how strangely similar they were - all the patients were, really - but both could glow. Both had fears tied directly with their personal hybridization process. They couldn't yet control their strange new traits, if it was even possible, and both felt unfortunate and even fear-inspiring, yet the other was somehow attracted to them. Didn't it seem fitting that they should find each other? If he could help it with no one else in this place, this is one person he should never harm in any way. He must cherish her friendship, no matter what might befall them in the future.
He smiled down at their clasped hands. Their orange glow in combination reminded him of Halloween. That too inspired memories, but they were good ones. His fingers laced with hers and squeezed. Perhaps they could begin to heal after all, even in a place like this. He looked up from their fingers. She had been leading the way the whole time. Was he really so timid? He fell into step beside her and looked into her strange yet beautiful eyes. "Dimas... I know people think friends in this place can't really work, that it's everyone for themselves. But I really like you and I think they're wrong."

It was not until she felt his fingers tighten against her hand that Dimas slowed a bit. She did not have a clue to his inner musing and soon enough he was now walking at her side their hands still strongly clasped together. His bright pale eyes met hers and she felt a wave of reassurance even before he spoke. "I like you too Photinus...I think I was drawn to you for a reason. No matter what happens in here, even if we never make it back outside...to the real world, I will always consider you a friend." She gave him a small little ghostly smile as she brought their hands up to kiss the back of his. "Us little glow bugs need to stick together."
They might have been altered with completely different species but both relied on the glows of the world around them. What ever the reason they had followed the glows, even without ever seeing them to the courtyard that evening and had met up. This was going to be a lasting friendship. No matter what The Asylum had in store for them Dimas knew that on her side she would never let this kinship and friendship get squashed.
"My room is just up ahead..."Her dark duel colored eyes smiled up at him as she started to walk again. Three doors down she reached for a doorknob and with a twist and a push she opened the door to her small little bedroom. It was big enough to allow a second bed should a second person was required to move in. But as of yet it had a small metal framed bed with a dirty mattress, a small pillow and a thick knitted sheet. At the foot of the bed was a small wooden faded green trunk. "Welcome to my room." she said as she flicked the blinking light on. There was no window but there was a faint sound of dripping water from somewhere within the walls. The walls themselves were bare with what had once been paint mostly pealed off of them. At the head of her bed there was a small Polaroid of the ocean, if looked at close enough at it figure of people waiting in the water on the surf board could be seen in the water and small figures of children and parents were playing in she shallows.

His earnestness melted a little into a broad smile and their eyes glittered with their hands clasped together between them as she kissed his hand. He never would have thought of her as a glow bug, but the comparison was an interesting one, especially considering she was something they call a 'vampire.'
"Your hand is see-through," he commented with a wonder in his voice. Human hands are translucent, but light could change her color. It's truly fascinating! he thought. A small part of his mind wanted to examine her arms and other parts of her, such as her belly and cheeks, in a purely scientific way. But when he realized this desire to actually shine a flashlight in her mouth he immediately felt awkward for being so bookish. No one would believe his intent, even if now he realized how silly it had been. Perhaps she wouldn't notice he was blushing.
The fireflies that liked to follow him swirled around overhead. Some preceded the two patients as they walked once more through the halls, adding to the soft glow her crimson body and his greeny-yellow hands provided. As they came to the door, they buzzed along its surface curiously, then swooshed inward as she opened it. Their tiny bodies lit the room as they poked around at its four walls and the ceiling.
Dimas' room was like so many others in the Asylum. The dingy furnishings would not have been allowed in most habitations, yet they were prolific here. Nevertheless, he could see where her touch had been, leaving it more hospitable and homey. He smiled as she turned on the light. "Oh you have a working overhead light!" he chuckled. "I found a lamp once and fixed it up..." He was worried he would lose use of the bulb so he rarely used it. Was it so strange that the faint dripping noise he could hear was comforting? In his own room, he often heard a rattling shudder as heat was pumped through the duct work in his room. It was terrifying because it seemed to come out of nowhere, at off times, and the heat never seemed to reach him.
He saw something interesting on the wall, and it wasn't the peeling paint. He practically pounced on it, dragging along with her without intending to. He peered at the photo, still smiling as he pointed to it. "Are you in this picture?" He studied the subjects, trying to guess which one she might be.

She looked a bit shocked at his sudden words. She glanced down at their hands and her free open had moved to her lips, at the fullness parted into her typical large 'O'. "I had not noticed that before...They are....see through." She had never had a bright light or any one really shine threw her body. So with shadows all around her and even sunlight she appeared as a dark blood like crimson. But with his hand in hers he had been able to change her color.
So...I really am more of a freak... She thought and looked over her free hand that was hidden in the shadows. She held it up and out towards her over head light that flickered. She could see the faint glow through her skin and could even see that her bones themselves looked a bit more clear that she remembered seeing them on x-rays. Photinus might sound interested in her see-throughness but she was not as excited about this discovery. Though she did wonder if the rest of her was just as see though. As she was lost in her thoughts she had just barely heard his next words and was then even more suddenly pulled to the side where she half fell onto her bed.
"The light does not work....that well it shorts out...the photo?" She looked over at the photo and then since she was already on her bed she shifted to kneel infront of the photo a bit and put her one hand up like she was holding a camera. "I was about here...so nope...though I do have my swimsuit with me." She gave a small laugh and her hand loosened just a bit on his, "Would you like to see it?"
She scooted across her bed towards the trunk. Before she turned and smiled back at him, "If your light does not work, well you can come and move in here. After all mine works. And then at least we would not keep up any new roommates at night with our glows. I can't shut mine off..." She knew it was sudden and she really did not think he would say yes but it made sense for them to share a room. For the glowing if nothing else. "Its cool if you don't though."

"Oh..." Why would she keep a photo if she wasn't even in it? For the memories? Or... perhaps she doesn't want to remember what she used to look like... Photinus was frowning slightly, sympathy on his mind, when his eyes widened and he blushed faintly. "I'm really sorry... I didn't mean to drag you over like that." While he said this, he hastily let go of her hand, which he had been grasping so tightly.
He watched her scoot over to the trunk that lay at the foot of her bed. "See... your swimsuit?" His eyes remained wide and he managed to blush more darkly. "Move in?" Was this girl serious? He found himself continually questioning her motives and he really hated to do so. He wished to be less suspicious, if it could even be called that. But he really was not used to people being so forward with him. If they were, they usually had something they wanted of him. "Ah... perhaps we should think this over first..."

Dimas shook her head and laughed softly, "No need to be sorry it is okay. Your pretty strong Photinus." she said as she leaned over the edge of her bed to open the trunk. She rummaged threw it until she found her swim suit and pulled it up.
She turned as he finished talking. She gave a nod as her dark hair fell over his fair the glowing tendrils sliding off her shoulder more slowly, "Yes you might be right...after all we don't know each other...it is just these halls can be lonely and your the second person I have met but your right." She felt a bit sadden but for all she really knew he was a mean dominating jerk who just played sweet and shy.
To take her mind off that she flicked out her one piece swimsuit. It was one of those newer model swimsuits with the back almost completely gone except for the bottom covering the backside and a thin string just under the shoulder blade and around the neck. The from cut in along the sides and it was a bit low cut to show off her breasts. It was a sunset orange color with red hibiscus on it.

"Oh... really? I guess I didn't realize." For all he knew he could have half-yanked her shoulder from its socket. It really is embarrassing not to know one's own strength, even if they have great excuses like 'I am part-insect.'
He watched her pull a swimsuit from the trunk. It was an appropriately summery theme that would have completely changed her look. He tried to picture her in it and had a difficult time in speculating how low the neckline went without blushing. Despite that, he finally nodded. "I like. I think it would look very pretty on you!"
Sitting down on the side of the bed, he stared at the far wall and ran his fingers through his hair, until he realized that it must look rather strange and gingerly dropped his hand. He sighed a little and gathered his thoughts; she was very good at throwing him figuratively off-balance, even more so than the glow of his hands.
"I think..." he began slowly, "that it makes sense if we were room mates. But I like to take a little time before making decisions. I like to think about all the 'buts', like... we're different genders. It might be awkward." They didn't know each other, but room mates often don't. So it was not enough to say 'no,' but it was enough to make them stop and think. "Let's give it a couple of days. We can decide then."

Dimas smiled, "Thank you I did like it and i thought I looked alright in it...before. But...well I don't know how well I would look in it now considering how I look now." She smiled and let the suit drop into her lap as she watched him shift away from her photo and stare off. She wondered what was going threw his mind before he spoke again.
She gave a nod and shrugged, "Well yes but even though we are different genders it does not mean there will be a problem. I mean we would each have a different bed so we won't have to sleep with each other. And I don't walk around naked so your safe there. But there is no rush. It is not like we even have to room together. There are not that many patients just yet." She could see this subject was making him nervous so she gave a nod and moved to put her suit back in the trunk. "So do you remember a bit of where you came from? Was it near any big water like the ocean?"

"I think you would look lovely in it now. There's red in it and it's more... cheerful... than black." He pointed to the garment before she could drop it back in the trunk. "And as you can see, red goes nicely with orange."
Photinus' eyes widened. "I'm surprised. Don't most girls like their privacy? They don't want just anyone to see them in their pajamas." There were other female... issues that guys just don't like to think about, let alone discuss. "But you don't seem bothered by it. Are you used to having room mates?" The cultural difference between her and most girls he knew was curious to him.
"I'm from a group home... but the boys and girls didn't live in co-ed rooms and didn't share bathrooms. So there wasn't a lot of privacy but there was enough. Most of the girls complained anyway," he chuckled. "We weren't near the water, but I've been to the beach once or twice. Oh, and I know how to swim, there was a pool near the home," he added with a nod. "What about you," he smiled warmly, "it sounds like you had a big family. It must have been really nice. Were you close to them?"

Dimas blushed darkly as he said she would look good in it now. "Yes red looks good with orange but I don't know if It would look good on me...I mean I don't even like going into the showers right now." She looked down at her black clothes, "Really the black does not look good?" she hat thought that the black might help blend her into the wall and she tried to get something that would cover her glow more fully and black was the best color for that.
"No I am not as used to roommates as some. But I guess I am sure excited with the idea of one. I have never hand one before." she did not see why he was so worried. Though she never really thought about him being naked or if he wanted to be with someone. It was not like she had much stuff to leave out.
She was glad to hear him opening up and relaxing as he talked about where he was from. "Oh really? It must be interesting to live in a group home. So many stories you could hear. "Sadly it was not a big family. Well in a way it was. I was an only child. My parents were well known for their water skills. My father was a pro surfer and my mother was a champion long distance and lap swimmer. They had lots of friends and people around a lot so I am used to having people around. Though it was hard to hide my fear of the water from them..." She looks up at him and smiles, "I wish I knew how to swim that might help a bit."

"No, it's not that it doesn't look good... it just..." He frowned faintly and rubbed the back of his head. "It's just a different style, that's all."
He nodded, "Oh, I see. I suppose it would be exciting if you're not used to it. Hopefully the novelty wouldn't wear off too soon for you." Perhaps it just wasn't something they would have to worry about. Perhaps she was just that easygoing. "Well... if we do become room mates, let me know when you want some time to be alone."
"It was... interesting. There was always something happening, someone always getting in trouble, or some other drama," he nodded. "I guess your home was like a group home. You were always being watched by someone, or at least rarely alone to yourself. But I'll help you learn to swim, though I've never taught it to anyone before. So I guess we'll both learn something, huh?" he grinned.

Dimas again looked at her outfit. It was a bit smaller than what she normally would wear. But she only had two outfits, a swimsuit, and a set of pjs on her. "Well I guess the skirt could be longer...it almost does not cover anything at all huh?" She laughed softly and then smiled, "Well at least the tops makes my breasts look smaller." The coloration along her face darkened, "Oh sorry....too much information."
She put her hand to her mouth to stop herself from starting to ramble and then looked at him again, "Well the same would go for you too. If we do ever become room mates then just let me know when you need some alone time. I don't think that just because a guy and a girl become roomies it means they are dating or anything. So don't worry if you are to find someone here I would not hinder you two having alone time if you wanted to use the room. We would need to come up with a sign for that sort of thing."
Her hand pressed to her lips and she looked down. She was going on again. She was just so excited with him. He made her feel so at ease...or a bit more tense. "I would really like it if you could help me swim. Maybe then I would feel better in water...seeing how it looks like I will need it more often now. And yes it seems we will both get something from it too. Yes there was either something always going on at my house or I was 100% alone. So either way I am pretty cool with it...I wonder if any of them miss me."

Photinus' eyes widened briefly, her comment about her tops only part of the reason. Did she believe he had been criticizing her? She seemed to be criticizing herself... She seemed self-conscious now, but he was not sure why. What had he said that made her so nervous? Was it his reply to her suggestion that they become room mates? He just needed more time. Living with a girl would be a big change from anything he was used to. He needed to prepare his mind if nothing else.
"I like quiet sometimes because I like to read. But that doesn't happen here, does it... I just try to block out noise when I can. I'm sure it won't be a problem. Otherwise I am not worried about privacy. I just figured... since you're a girl... you might want more time to yourself." He did blush however; he hadn't been thinking of bringing girls home. Me? Is she serious? He almost laughed, but it would have been a nervous, self-depreciating laugh. "Ah... I don't think bringing girls home would be an issue with me. You must be popular though," he added shyly.
She looked like a beach goddess, and she was not modest with her appearance. It was not that she seemed to flaunt what she had, but when she moved, it was as if she felt free and natural. That was the best way he could describe it. Natural, honest beauty. Though sometimes, like now, she seemed unsure of herself. "So if anything, I would be the one leaving the room. But that's okay. There are plenty of places to go around here, right..." He chuckled. Ah, there it is, that laugh. But that's all right. Geeks are supposed to vacate, right...
"We'll start slow. As long as you're safe you can grow to be more comfortable. I'm sure they miss you, Dimas... and who knows, maybe there will be a way to show them how you've gotten used to the water." He ventured a smile. It would be a difficult feat, but if it could be accomplished, how great would that be?

Dimas shook her head though she seemed to bright up a bit, "I am not much of a reader, I would rather watch things and people. I used to go to the beach all the time and just watch everyone playing and swimming and surfing." she gave a humor filled laugh, "No I am not popular in the least. Your only the second person here who has talked to me. And I don't think many people like looking at me now. I am...well I actually have not looked in a mirror since They changed me. So I guess neither of us would bring people into the room." She paused for a moment and then reached out to pat the closest part of him which happened to be his knee, "Well I mean I did bring you here but that was....becuase I think we could be friends...not that I want to sleep with you. I mean..." she blushed and took her hand away.
She gave a shake of her head, "Yes starting slow would be good...for everything. Rooming together and swimming. I don't know if I would just jump up and tell them all that 'Hey I can swim now.' I think I will just if i see them again run into the water and splash around. And it will be all thanks to you. Thank you for offering to help me Photinus, "I will make it up to you some how. Even if we are not successful with curing my fear, the government didn't help at all, though they did allow me to meet you." She was thankful to change the topic. Sometimes she was more girly that she realized she was. And well maybe he was right and they should not shack up together. After all they did just meet and because she was attracted to his glow was not a good enough reason to become room mates.
