He sniffed when Winderick changed his story but the smile didn't fade. Being compared to his mother was always something to be proud of, even if he was only talking about her personality. Winderick must be completely blind not to see the physical similarities but Kadayon would forgive him. The boy probably hadn't seen many beautiful women in his life. Still, he did admit that she was fashionable, which mean he must have some taste.
"Yvoth knows what she wants. You can't deny a dragon a candidate when they find one. You must have been something different for her to seek you out." It was a sad excuse for a compliment but Kadayon made sure to deliver it without so much as a hint that it was so. Winderick could take it as he wanted to. "And riders can be extremely fashionable, I'll have you know. You could probably learn a little from her." He let his eyes rove over Winderick more pointedly this time, frowning a little when he caught sight of the scar. Kadayon raised an eyebrow at the other boy in an unspoken question, curiousity getting the better of him but not enough that he was going to force Winderick to spill the beans.

When Winderick said 'fashionable' he normally meant impractical. All those fancy buttons on K'la's leathers couldn't serve any useful purpose. Seemed like a waste of material. She looked nice, he couldn't deny that, but he never considered looks all that important. After Kadayon said he was different Winderick looked up with a small, proud smile. Being yourself, now that was important. "If you say so," he said, ready to drop the issue.
He patted the earth flat and leaned back to admire their work. They would have to wait a day to see if the mystweed took to Benden's soil. At least for now, it seemed they'd done a good job. Winderick glanced at Kadayon, noticed his stare, and looked down at his arm. "Forge accident," he stated simply, rising to his feet. "I think we're done here."
