"Thanks. I think she likes it too. She's going to be sweet and mild tempered." She gazed at the flit as she said that with conviction. Almost as if was a promise to herself and the flit.
A giggle escaped at the wherry comment. She gave him a wryly grin, "bit of a trouble maker. I can tell."
Her eyes flashed with excitement as he mentioned the up coming flying lessons. "Oh boy, am I ever! Dynith is going to worry herself sick. If its not one thing its another." She gave a soft sigh for her poor suffering dragon. 'I do not worry that much, Mine.' The voice sounded indignant, yet unsure. Did she really worry that much?
"What about you?"

F'ren smiled knowingly "heh, you had better hope she keeps this temperment, Zevra was all sweet as a hatchling too" he said a little grimly.
His smile grew broader as she giggled at his wherry comment "a bit, is an understatement" he said, recalling the, surely, hundreds of times he'd had to find something the silver had hidden for the 'fun' of it.
"i can't wait to be up there on Toulonth, she is excited too, i just hope i can remember things when i need to" he said, a frown tugging at his features. "Mine, everything will be alright, i will help you to remember, you just need to stay calm if you do forget" she sounded sure, confident in her belief.

Optheli made a grimace at him. "She has to stay sweet! I promised V'al she would be and wouldn't bother him." She looked at him to understand.
She had to think for a minute. "You could say he doesn't let your life become dull."
"I would think they drilled it into us enough. Their goal seemed so we could be able to do it in the dark." Not that that was a bad thing mind you. Just seemed like over-kill in a way.

F'ren was surprised at her comment, "i'd say V'al just has to get used to flits, there are enough around the Weyr" he said "though i'm sure she'll stay sweet, the greens often do" he said, not sure if it was true but hoping for her sake, since she'd seemed worried when she'd looked to him. "if the little one misbehaves, Optheli could just ask Dynith to speak to her, it sometimes works with the silver one when he is bad" F'ren relayed his dragon's comment to Optheli. He had to stifle a chuckle though "yes you could say that life isn't dull with Zevra around.
He thought about the training they'd been getting "heh, maybe you're right, but i suppose it's the best way to learn" he offered up.

Optheli exhaled. It sounded almost like a relieved sigh. "Yes there is. I can't image how he hasn't run into one before." She flashed a smile. "Thanks. I think she will. Oh yes. I bet she'll listen to Dynith. She's going to help train Ismay too." She petted the now sleepy flit.
"If we must, we must. Or maybe they make us do it, so we don't get into any further trouble." She made a funny face.

F'ren thought a moment "maybe you could teach V'al thay flits CAN be more than pests?" he offered up. "i mean, there can't be many worse than Zevra" he chuckled again, leaning forwards a little as he noted the sleepy green "i would suggest making yourself comfy before she falls alsleep fully, or you're going to end up with a numb arm"
"yeah, but when Thread falls i'm sure that the heavy training will prove to be more helpful than annoying" he said "after all, even though they were bred to fight Thread, we still need to teach them how to do it."
He got up, "wait there, i'll get you some Klah and maybe some sweetrolls?" he said gently, "that flit is likely going to keep you up as much as Dynith likely did throughout her first few nights."

"I'd like to show him that not all flits are bad. If he wouldn't jump to an assumption about them and take them as they are...." She smiled. "Ismay will be a nice and sweet flit to show him." A rueful chuckle answered him. "I believe you're right," she said, stroking the now very stuffed and sleepy flit. Moving into a more comfortable position that allowed the flit to be nestled against her arm and body for comfort. "There now."
Optheli looked at him wide-eyed, "do you really think Thread will in our lifetimes?" She tilted her head at him. "I wasn't bred to fight Thread, F'ren, They were." Yes, 'They' was capitalized to indicated the dragons. "Still, you're right. We as their riders must teach them." She sighed.
She flashed him a grateful smile. "Thank you, that would be nice and I don't want to disturb her. Oh dear really?" Now there was a thought! He didn't seem so bad after all. Maybe she'd made a hasty judgment herself.

F'ren shrugged "i dont know V'al very well, but he's going to have to learn very fast to get along with flits" he said, yeah he thought they were pests but they weren't all that bad, even Zevra had his better moments when he was actually affectionate, usually when his stomach was full and he wanted to snuggle at night.
F'ren thought for a moment, "well, even if it doesn't, we have to train to, there's always games and mock thread to chase, i'm not sure if it will Fall in our time, but we must be ready in case it does" he said, unnaturally serious for the moment. "Don't be afraid Optheli, even if we're scored our dragons will take us between so it will freeze off before we're injured too much" he said grinning his assurance of Dragon abilities.
He nodded and went to fetch Klah, he didn't find any sweetrolls, but he did find some cold met cuts, grabbing some bread he took them out to Optheli. Once back to where Optheli was, with a now decidedly sleepy looking Ismay he poured her a cup of Klah. "there, and i suggest getting a leather brace or something of the sort made if she's going to travel around with you, flit claws are sharp, and can ruin your clothes if they're not leather" he smiled.

"You didn't see his reaction when I brought Ismay in for the first time." She sighed and petted the flit slowly. "I suppose, since there are lots of flits around. If he just sees that one, green one, isn't bad then maybe it will help him to see others aren't bad. Mischievous sure, but not bad." That was Optheli's hope anyhow. Whether it would become true or not would have to wait.
Optheli gave a decisive nod. "If we don't train, who will train the next generation and the generations after that? It would be really bad if the dragonriders stopped training for thread." Thread was guaranteed to fall again some day. They couldn't slack off and now she had a reason for it. She looked up at him when he mentioned getting scored. Her large grey eyes were troubled, but she didn't say anything.
A dragon trumped outside. 'Toulonth, tell Your's to stop scaring Mine with talk like that! I will not let her become scored.'
She sat and sipped the klah. "Yeah, good idea. I've already found out they're sharp. Guess I'll do that in the morning." With a hand she reached to grab a piece of bread. Getting it open she stuffed a slice of meat into it, then started to nibble on it. "Thanks F'ren."

F'ren shrugged slightly "you're right, maybe he just hasn't met the right flit" he said smiling gently, "i'm sure he'll get used to Ismay in time Optheli, don't worry" he laid a gentle hand on her shoulder to reassure her.
"Exactly! if we slack off then what are we teaching the next lot" he affirmed. Taking note of her wide eyes at his mention of scoring. "not that our clever greens would let us get scored" he blushed, after being scolded mentally by Toulonth.
Mine you should be making friends, not scaring them she rumbled, to F'ren, Mine will not get scored either! she'd reassured the other green
He smiled again though as she started to eat, "i'm sure some of the leatherworkers can make you one for a few marks" he nodded, he sat on a chair near to the other greenrider ""no problem Optheli, it was my pleasure" he cooed a little, he didn't find her the most attractive he'd seen around the Weyr but she was really nice to talk to, and sometimes, that mattered more than personal preferences.

She smiled slowly. "I'll keep working at it and I'm not going to let his feelings bother me anymore." Optheli stroked the soft skin of the sleeping flit. It really had been silly to let V'al's reactions get the better of her. Now in a better frame of mind she polished off the food. Training was important even if they didn't fight thread; she'd do her best to learn everything.
"So what have you been doing F'ren?" She was interested to see if other riders had been doing other things. They both rode greens right? Assuming they would have similar agendas. Optheli regretted starting their meeting on a bad note and was now trying to be friendly to make up for it.
'I am glad to hear that Toulonth. We will learn to be agile and fast greens.'

F'ren smiled at Optheli, she seemed to be calmer about the flit and her bunkmate now, at least, her face had lost that concerned look whenever she looked down at the sleeping fire lizard. He grabbed some food himself "Hey! don't eat it all" he laughed.
"I've been practicing mostly, going over the same patterns over and over, trying to remember them" he replied. "It's hard to fly when you're looking a drawings of the patterns" he admitted, he wished his memory would improve, even with Toulonth helping him remember it was sometimes difficult to get the patterns right, and if he couldn't remember them perfectly, he didn't think he'd be any good flying in a wing. His face only showed this concern lightly.
"we will be the best greens" affirmed Toulonth, with a mental smile and a pleased rumble that echoed a little. "F'renmine, don't worry so much, we will remember...together and we will fly and fight!" she said gently to him, to reassure him.

Optheli made a show of popping the last bite of her sandwich into her mouth and chewing. "It was sitting there the whole time you've been talking." Her eyes twinkle as she teases F'ren.
"I think that might help Dynith. She's been worried we'll make a wrong turn." She giggled softly, "You took the pattern up with you? I'm surprised it didn't flutter from your grip and land in the lake. Instead of trying to do it all at once, take it in pieces." She tilted her head. "Memorize a small part, fly up and just do that part and over. Go down get the next part and repeat until you're done. Then try it all together. Breaking it down might help it not seem to large." Optheli smiled encouragingly.
'Perhaps we should practice together some time Toulonth. It might be easier with company.'

F'ren gave a fake glare at Optheli as she ate the last of the sandwich, "mean" he said smiling at her, his own eyes full of mischief.
F'ren laughed "That's the problem, i spend more time trying to keep the page from flying away than i do memorising it" he said with a shrug. "in bits? hmm" he mused for a minute "If i manage to remember the first part you might have a smart plan there Optheli" he said, eyes shining. He leaned over and gave her a big hug, glad to have possibly found a better way to remember.
"if it helps us and Ours to remember it is worth trying, that's a good idea Dynith"

Optheli flashes him a wide grin. "You've gotta be faster than that."
'I'd do anything to help Mine. Thank you, we need to work together on this. Mine, if we work as a pair one can be on the ground and give hints and directions to the one flying.'
"Of course you'll be able to remember the first part, I..." She paused with a slightly phased out look for a moment. "Dynith just suggested by working together and one of us can sit on the group and give direction to the one flying. Would that help any you think?" She giggled and returned the hug.
