I'm working my way through all the stargate stuff. So far, I've watched the movie ans season one of SG-1. As well as the most recent seasons of
SG-1 and Atlantis.

I've never seen Stargate, except for maybe the last few minutes of an episode just before Battlestar Galactica starts on SciFi. Not sure why I never bothered to tune in... I suppose it must be decent, since it's been on for years and has that Atlantis spin-off series.

Anyhow, I went on a Dr. Who spending spree and picked up:
The Claws of Axos
The Pyramids of Mars
The Talons of Weng-Chiang
The Horror of Fang Rock
The Leisure Hive
Resurrection of the Daleks

I finished Claws of Axos & Leisure Hive last night. Not sure what to watch next... both Pyramids and Weng-Chiang are classic Doctor Who stories, but I'm tempted to go with the Dalek story because anything written by Eric Saward is sure to be a blood-bath... twisted

Yeah, I'm watching my way through the 9th doctor episods again on Sci-fi and waiting for CBC to start showing the 10th doctor. Also, I love the old ones my bes friends dad taped a bunch of those of T.V. years ago so we watch those all the time. The stargate stuff is really just a way to kill time till the new season of Who.

We're both connoisseurs of quality television, I suppose. You're the only other person I know that likes BSG, Dr. Who, anime, and cheese! Your fiancee is a lucky man. 3nodding

I suppose I really should watch this Stargate show. I just wonder if I'll be completely lost jumping into the show so late...

Well Willy Wonka's supposed to be smart and likable too but whatcha going to do? Set up some kind of creepy shrine to Roald Dahl decorated with photos of Johnny Depp with all the eyes cut out in your shed?

I really didn't like the new Willy Wonka movie... I'm a big Johnny Depp fan but I just found him seriously creepy in that movie. *shudders at memory* And also - why make a remake?

At the moment I have just ordered the first series of Red Dwarf on DVD to fill in the gaps from the ones I taped. Does anyone else watch that? It seriously rocks. I heard they did an American version and it just fell flat... which I can understand. I watched it when I was little and found most of the jokes hilarious. Then I grew up and watched it again and realised what all the OTHER jokes meant and it was even more hilarious.

Never seen Red Dwarf, but one of my friends kept trying to get me to watch the show (and Blackadder). They used to show both on PBS in the U.S.

According to the IMDb, there was a Red Dwarf USA in 1992, and one of the original cast members (Robert Llewellyn) was in it. Apparently everybody thinks it sucks. Well, just further evidence that any American version of a British show is bound to fail...

... except Pop Idol. gonk

crying I liked all the actors inthe American version.... I just HATED the writing.. HATE HATE HATE! Besides it was on both SciFi and Comedy Central.

On a side note.. am I the only one that thought that Willy Wonka was creepy in the books?? question gonk I thought the Tim Burton version was even better then the one Gene Wilder was in. Roald Dahl's books were all prety dark in some way or another. The charactor of Willey Wonka was Mean and rude in the first book.. he actualy wasn't that bad in ether of the movies. sweatdrop am I the only one who sees it that way?

In the DVD player. Hmm... The Ultimate Avengers DVD.

God, I'm such a hopeless comic nerd. Now if only they would make a movie set in the Sandman universe, I'd be giddy as a schoolgirl. Wasn't there supposed to be a Death movie in the works?

I'd pay money to see that. heart

I'm so out of touch with comics these days...

How was the Ultimate Avengers DVD... storywise, animation, etc.? Is it based on the Ultimates comic?

Since I spent most of my comic-collecting youth as a Marvel zombie, I never read Sandman, or a lot of the other great stuff that DC used to put out. In fact, I've only recently read Watchmen and Batman biggrin KR. But since you're a self-confessed comic nerd, what did you think of Sin City and V for Vendetta? I've been debating whether or not I should pick up Sin City (either the basic 1-disc, or the 2-disc recut version).

Sadly, movie adaptations of comic books generally don't seem all that great...

Oh dear, you've opened the floodgates, hun. xd

*takes a deep breath*

The Ultimate Avengers DVD was indeed based on the Ultimates comic, except for a few key diffences changed so as not to alienate Marvel fans that never read any of the Ultimate books. The most obvious were these three:

1) In the Ultimate Universe, Bruce Banner became the Hulk by experimenting with the Super Serem that created Captain America. In the movie, he was exposed to Gamma rays like the old 616 Hulk.

2) In the Ultimate universe, Hank Pym (Giant Man/Ant Man) is borderline sociopathic and often beats his wife, Janet Pym (The Wasp). In the movie, he's just an arrogent a*****e.

3) In the Ultimate universe, Tony Stark is quite public about his Iron Man idenity. He even turned the Iron Man suit into his company's mascot. In the movie, Nobody knows that Tony is Iron Man.

The movie was excellect mindless popcorn fun and makes a rocking rental. To buy? Only if you're a fan of the Ultimate Marvel line.

The Sin City movie was word for word, panel by panel the exactly like Volumes 1, 3, and 4 with a story from Volume 6 woven into the beginning. Sin City is probably that most faithful comicbook to movie adaptation... ever. I recommend splurging on the two disc addition. The movie's that good.

Haven't seen V for Vendetta yet, but the comic was one of my favorite Alan Moore stories next to From Hell and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (the League comic was miles better than that crappy movie). Although I really dislike the Watchmen for some reason. xp

You never read the Sandman? For the love of GOD... go to your nearest book store or comic shop and purchese a copy of Preludes & Nocturnes. If you aren't hooked after the story featuring Death, something is wrong with you. I can't recommend this series enough! xd

Not sure if I'm ready to plunk down some lucre on Ultimate Avengers... I've only read the 1st oversized HC of Ultimate Spiderman, and I wasn't so keen on the idea of re-imagining the 616 universe for a younger generation to begin with. Is Nick Fury a Samuel L. Jackson lookalike with an eyepatch? I heard that was one of the changes in the Ultimate universe.

You've definitely got me interested in Sin City, though. Now I gotta see where I can get the 2-disc set cheap...

Never read V or From Hell, but I did read the 1st League miniseries. It was cool, even if I didn't know half the references to classic literature that Moore stuck in. I didn't mind that they altered stuff for the movie, except that the movie sucked... Throwing the annoying Sawyer character in was probably the worst change of all. mad

Thought the From Hell movie wasn't too bad, though.

Is DC planning on releasing an Absolute Edition of Sandman? I'd probably hold off buying the trades if they did. I do so love those oversized hardcovers... (even if it's vapid eye-candy like Hush).
