The rose in spring Why would you want to move out of civilization just to live a few more short years of misery? depends. Sometimes people are willing to live only 60 seconds simply to stand up for their values, when a demonstration of submission would yield 60 years... What would you die for?

Sometimes people are willing to live only 60 seconds simply to stand up for their values, when a demonstration of submission would yield 60 years... What would you die for? Are you asking... what you die for realistically? Or what you die for theoretically? My answer will probably remain the same regardless, but I would like to die for myself. Martyring myself for myself seems a bit selfish, yet it remains a decent course of action.

It's not death that gets me, it's misery. People don't live long alone. Infact, I'd be surprised if you'd make it for more than 3 days after you spend your rations. We are humans. We are pack animals and we are pack animals because we are slow, weak and not very capable of survival and even when we had groups, mortality in the paleolithic era was very high. You break a leg or get sick, your group leaves you and you die. Being a 20 year old would be old age for those guys. And to be honest, if you die in the woods, nobody will give a s**t about you. If you honestly want to escape a corrupt society, then finding faith in Jesus is your best bet.

Truth be told, most Religion gives some inspiration to corruption. If you sell a brewery to buy a wine plantation, you're still making alcohol, just with different means.

with Jesus hypothesis: the end of the world is coming soon, probably in the next 20 years - Second coming and all that. You are told not to take any marks and if they try to get you to buy/sell by use of a serial number or mark, with the penalty of death, you aught to choose death. They call this millennialism. Some believe if you live on Earth but aren't part of the "world" defined as corrupt civilization, then you can be translated/quickened/taken into the next world while the rest are burned/destroyed/destroy themselves/wonder what the heck happened to people like you.
without Jesus hypothesis: History works in evolving cycles, in the same way that the revolutions of a car tire are the same, except each time the tire is more damaged until it cracks or explodes, civilizations repeat history with subtle changes either better or worse. On the bright side, there's also a 'good-bad' cycle, and we happen to be dipping into the 'bad' right now. After bad comes worse, then worst, then better... i.e., you simply have to wait it out.
Me personally? I think whether or not a Jesus guy is going to come out of the sky and save the world, we are still going to get to see one of two sides of the same coin:
Heads: world war III/terminator tails: 1984/brave new world
Basically, we are either going to have a dystopian nightmare of tyranny or a massive casuality that scorches the earth. Both are consistent with the Christian book of revelations and similar to several other systems of prophecy.
For example, the scorched earth fits the baptism by fire theory, while the 1984 tyranny fits the mark of the beast theory.
When I see the rise of Drones and heavily Armed police on one hand, and the nuclear armament of Both Iran and North Korea on the other, I have no reason NOT to believe one of these scenarios will happen in my lifetime.

Have you ever played Deus Ex? Pretty good game. Which reminds me: I need to get some nanoaugmentations.

Back to the Jesus topic, Personally, I don't know what i beleive in religious wise anymore, but what I think everyone is getting at is ORGANIZED religion is crap. Because once it gets organized, there's a leader, and then we're all screwed.
I feel Jesus, whether he was real or not, is a good example. Unlike the church, HE taught peace, love and tolerance. smile
Also, he was a cool pescetarian hippy minus the drugs and sex. biggrin (correct me if im wrong, but from what I've read in the bible, I don't remember him eating any meat other than fish.)

Well why would there be warnings in the bible in revalations? For the non-beliver? They tend to not read the bible (Just like most "Christians" Don't trust your pastor or preacher or w/e they call them. The congregation has a higher archy and respect of man which we are told not to have.) We're most likely going to get to go through the trials of revalation as well. Anyways if a rapture happens before the "Time" who is going to really notice all the homeless people gone anyways? I'm confident the congregations will still be packed taking your money. =)

Mr Crawley The rose in spring Why would you want to move out of civilization just to live a few more short years of misery? This girl uses her head. I don't think that going in the middle of no place is going to end well. If you don't know what you are doing stay in town. Get books about it and learn all you can but i would still say stay in town.

The rose in spring Why would you want to move out of civilization just to live a few more short years of misery? Misery? As long as I have my freedom, I won't be miserable. Not completely, anyways. : P The day I lose it, is the day life won't be worth it anymore. No sooner.
