Dakari had reached the end of the sticker trail. Ahead the trails contained trees more of the evergreen variety, a good plant for freshening a den if you cared to pit tender mouth again prickly branches.
The white and purple fox looked back to see how Sitara was fairing. She was following in his path with a grace that surprised him, and yet pleased him at the same time. Dakari was coming to find that he enjoyed this Daeva's company. She was competent, despite getting lost in a thick forest, and conversation with her didn't bore him.
"As long as I get to keep my feet on the ground, you can show off all you please," Dakari drawled, feigning indifference. He realized it was probably a weak bluff; he could make his voice and body go where he pleased, but his eyes always gave him away.

Sitara scented the air, liking the smell of pine and fir. She could also see that she had more room and a quick glance upward showed a bit of sky peeking through the branches. She ignored it. Sitara continued walking with Dakari instead. She moved up next to him, now that she had more room, and studied him.
"Oh, really? You've never once wondered what it would be like to soar through the sky? To feel the wind rustling through your fur?" Sitara asked. Something in his demeanor was not meshing with what he was saying. "I can take you up there, if you wish." She offered softly.

Dakari gave Sitara a side-long look. "Yea, I've wondered. This place isn't my whole life you know, I've traveled some. Comes with my job. When I can I like watching birds of prey hunt. They've always seemed so untouchable and free."
There was a hint of wistfullness in the last sentence. Dakari quickly stomped on it. He was supposed to be powerful, a strong hunter that didn't need anyone with a wall of ice around his heart. What was it about this vixen, that she found a way in and pulled out a secret longing he had never before revealed?

Sitara smiled inwardly at how grumpy Dakari sounded before his last sentence. "Well, we're not entirely free. Heavy storms will ground us and make us miserable. But yes, on a nice warm day, there isn't anything better." Though she'd already forgone flying away in order to stay longer with Dakari.
"Come flying with me, Dakari. You can feel first hand what those birds feel." Sitara said, nudging him, just a little. "Come on, let's find a clearing. I promise you wont regret it." She coaxed. Sitara suddenly really wanted to share her joy of flying with Dakari.

Dakari snorted. His answer would have been yes, absolutely yes, but he refused to give in to his childish side without at least a minor bit of griping first. "How would you hold on to me," he questioned, looking at Sitara. "I mean yea, you're all quite large, but you have paws just like us. Not all that good for grabbing. Your back? I might get in the way of your wings. And I'm far too big to be held by my scruff."
While he might have sounded a bit negative by pointing all this out, Dakari was secretly hoping Sitara could provide an answer. He couldn't fly on his own, so the next best thing on the list would be someone sharing their gift with him.

Sitara raised an eyebrow. She was tempted to tease the fox, but she wanted to take him flying. She'd tease him later. "Well, you are a bit big to be carried by the scruff. Dad carries Uncle Kito like that for short flights, but for longer ones...you'd probably suffocate." She said, shaking her head. Even as a kit, her father would pick her up around the middle rather than the scruff for long flights.
"I was thinking that how my father carries Uncle for longer flights would work. He hooks his paws around and underneath, holding onto Kito just behind his front legs." Sitara explained, glad her dad was best friends with a normal fox so that she knew what to do. "My claws will have to dig into your ribcage a little. It will be uncomfortable, but I have to if I'm going to keep my grip, as you said, I only have paws. Uncle Kito says it's worse when they take off, but he usually forgets the discomfort once he's distracted by the flight."

Dakari considered this information while looking Sitara over. Daevas were the biggest of their breed, the males easily a good two feet taller than him on average. As a female Sitara was not as large, but still was still bigger and boarder than he.
He cocked his head to the side. "Alright then. Let's find a field and we shall see. I want to view how you fly unburdened first." This seemed like a fair deal to him, since Sitara would be able to warm up and assess her condition. He doubted either of them wanted to find out she wouldn't be able to manage lifting him today when they were both in the air.

Sitara smiled happily, glad that Dakari was going to go flying with her. She really hoped her claws didn't hurt him too badly during the take off. Sitara wanted Dakari's experiance to be as amazing as her own whenever she flew herself.
"Of course. After being cramped in this forest, I'll need to get the kinks out of my wings. Besides, I promised to show you my amazing aerial prowess." She boasted, smirking at him to show she was merely messing around, not being arrogant.
She realized her happiness was bringing out her more playfull Phim characteristics, but this time she didn't supress them. She wanted to know that Dakari wouldn't mind her more...exhuberant moments.

Dakari smirked. "While you show off your "amazing aerial prowess" I can show you my own superb agility. Aerial predators may have an edge, but you can't touch my speed on the ground!"
He laughed and tossed his head, showing he had a playful side as well. It wasn't all bragging either; Dakari was very fast.

Sitara glanced around. "Here in this area you know so well and with all these trees, I have no doubt you could beat me in a race. However, we will have to try over an open field. I may not be as fast as you, but I have a slightly longer stride. Perhaps you will be able to keep up with me." She teased with a slightly disdainful tone. The smile on her face gave her away, however. She had no doubt the smaller, lighter fox could outrun her.
"How about you show me how fast you are on the way to the clearing? Let us see if I can keep up with you in this tree infested obstacle course." She said, nudging him with one of her wings in a small, playful push.

Dakari lightly nipped one of Sitara's legs, since anything else was too far up. "Try not to get too lost, I would hate to have to hunt you down again."
With his colors it would have been impossible to actually blend with the forest if he was to move, but Dakari was very flexible and could slither through the smallest of openings the forest offered. If Sitara wished to keep for a long time she would be have to ignore silence and just crash after him.
Thankfully for her, they had been traveling long enough now that the journey to more open skies would be a short one.

Sitara bared her teeth in mock aggression when he nipped at her legs. "I thought I told you. I don't get lost. I merely misplace myself sometimes." She called, taking off after him. Dakari zipped through the brush as fast as a snake, forcing Sitara to jump over the smaller bushes and crash through the bigger ones.
Giving up on jumping over the bushes, since no one was around anyway and anything that was she could pretty much take care of if she had too, she dodged around them instead, mimicking Dakari's movements. She wasn't nearly as silent, though, and the rustling of the bushes as she passed would have easily gained the disapproval of her papa.
Grinning easily, she ignored that fact entirely and just allowed herself to have fun, following after Dakari's white and purple tail.

Dakari grinned. This was actually kind of fun. Sitara seemed to be keeping up alright, so he let go and hit his top speed. Not that it mattered if Sitara lost sight of him. The shine of light through the trees up ahead was a signal of a clear spot. He broke through and stopped in the moderate-sized clearning.

Dakari seemed to have put on a burst of speed, so Sitara lengthened her stride. Still, she was no match for the smaller fox as his tail disappeared around the trunk of a tree. Sitara charged around the tree as well entering into the clearing with thundering paws.
She slowed herself, blinking in the sunlight that was far too bright after her jaunt in the forest. But she could breath again! Not that she'd noticed her confinement after Dakari had shown up. She pulled off a sinuous stretch that allowed the sun to hit her all over her shiny coat and glanced up at the open sky happily.
Turning back to Dakari she smiled. "You are very fast. I had to work to keep up with you." She said, stretching out first one wing, then the other, getting the kinks out of her muscles. She flexed them a couple of times, lifting her front paws a few inches off the ground. She was ready to fly, but wanted her breathing to calm a little first.

He nodded, pleased with Sitara's remark. "You did quite well yourself. I always think speed is more important than strength. Strength means nothing if you can't touch your opponent."
Dakari looked up at the blue sky. It was a nice, he supposed.
