I also want to point out that maybe the reason why people are consistently calling Muslims "extremists" is because a lot of the terrorist organizations are full of Muslims; examples are Taliban, Al-Quieda, the Jihadists...those are just a few that I can name that have Muslims in them. So I can kind of see where people can get the idea that Islam=Terrorist.

I do too, but that does not mean it is right. Or they are right. A lot of Japanese are Christian now, so the Japanese Christians who bombed Pearl Harbor are terrorists? So that means Christians are terrorists!

Feels like they are some times...

lol I thought of the Westboro baptists too.

No, of course it's not right. Stereotypes aren't right to begin with.

There's definitely a bias in the media, I'm not going to lie and it's on all the networks out there. I barely watch the news because it's too dang biased. And I am in agreement about the politicians running this country. Corruption central.

Because news are just a part of popculture...

And people dying for someone else's benefit is a very sad thing.
Nationalism is just a tool for fooling people.

What I think is even sadder is that people are still saying, 9 years after the events unfolded on live TV, that the US government destroyed the Twin Towers to blame Al Qaida...

HAHAHAHAH! What!? I've never heard that one before! That's just so..... out there. Wow... But that would be something comming from a paranoid schitzophrenic. They do have very odd conspiracy theories. We watched a documentary on it in Psychology and this bum was going on and on about some way the governemtn is controlling the newspapers. I can't even remember it was so out there.

See! I told you Christians are terrorists! XP

I wonder how the Pope would respond to an arguement like this. I doubt he would be calling Muslims terrorists though.

Yea... I really do not like the Westboro Baptist "Churh"... They may be alright people themselves, but what they do is not okay.

Yup, that is why I ask my husband. Though he can not tell me some stuff, but he does provide good information for a debate. We actually got in to it about Clinton. I think he was good, he thinks he sucked. Well... I wasn't broke when Clinton was in. But of course his side is about having the military budget cut and all that jazz. Well you have a house, for free, you get a food card for the mess hall, you get all sorts of discounts, yea... I can see how getting your pay cut would suck. NOT!

I think there are extremists in all of us to be honest. We just choose it to show it in different ways.

My husband is very good at debating. Often when I get into debates, I always ask him for advice on how to phrase things and which I should state certain facts and opinions.

It is legit the other way around, to an extent. The media will only show the candidates, in any seriousness, that they want to win, so that they will maintain their power as a money-making industry. So the choices we have for election are trimmed, subtly, by the media, for their interests.

I was too little then and haven't really looked in to it. All I remember is the economy abruptly dying while Bush was in so...

And I'm not the best with debating. When I can type it is a little better because I can read what I wrote before I submit it, but with talking... I find myself stumbling over my own tongue because I just can't form the words...

And yea. Many people are partial extremists.

I have watched hours of supposed proofs that its the US Gov behind the fall of the WTC, and still do not understand why these people insist that it was the Gov of the US and not hijackers in airplanes...

yes, people with schitzophrenia have some of the wildest theories about government control agencies... Some of them even prove true to a point...

The truth is, the US Gov has done so many crazy things that people believe it is possible that they could have blown up the WTC as an excuse to start a war.

It's frustrating...

I know Al-quieda members are muslims, but I have learned to separate the two. But I think the reason some people blame muslims as a whole, rather than targeting Al-Quieda is because they are still members of Islam, so I assume, some people think Islam=Terrorist.

I guess. But then we would have to call the Japanese terrorists. They did bomb Pearl Harbor after all.

Japan is probably one of the safest places to live right now. America... Not so much.

Why does everyone forget about the American Concentration camps during WWII.
After Pearl Hrabor was bombed the US government rounded up all people of Japanese decent in the sates and put them in camps. They stayed there until the war was over, during that time they lost almost everything they owned, thier homes, businesses, ect.

Realize at the time though - they pretty much were considered such. All Japanese - even those that were born and raised in the US, were herded off to concentration camps. Didn't matter what religion you were.

I wouldn't go that far, but personally I think that Bush was well aware that there was going to be an attack, and that he allowed it to happen so that he could further his own agenda and eventually go to war with Iraq.

Sorrry, but Al Qaida is a very sore subject for me, and I'm probably one of a very small number of people, who actually knew who they were long before 9/11 ever happened.

Quote:

Not saying the Hijackers weren't ultimately responsible - but there is no way they didn't know it was coming. Al Qaida was being closely monitored in the several years preceding 9/11. If I, a person with no more info that what I can pull up from research on the net could see it coming (though to be sure I had a personal interest in it) - then the Govt with all it's intelligence gathering abilities could surely see it coming.

Bush could have had Al Qaida if he had concentrated his efforts in Afghanistan, but just when we started started getting the upper hand - he starts targeting Iraq (which was always his plan) - for no reason at all (no WMD were ever found). He needed a "rally point" to get the US people/Congress behind him, so he could do whatever he wanted - what better way to unite everyone that a horrible tragedy. Bring everyone's base emotions into play - grief, anger, etc... and they will follow along in the name of "Justice" and "Vengeance".

__________

Note that I do not have any issues with Muslims at all, and I think it's very sad that people cannot separate the two. However it doesn't help the situation (and I know the media is to blame as well, because they only show the more provocative stories), when some of the extremists are treated like heroes, by their fellow countrymen.
