My mom can't stand Tyra Banks or Lil Kim.

My mom says that I should respect my body and to do something because I want to do it. If women want to shake what they momma gave them and have a hella fun time doing it then they should. If people say that they are degrading themselves and other women then they should ask the "hip-hop dancers" what they think.

I do not like the word ho. A ho is a whore no matter what way you spin it. If you say to them that they are video-hoes then you may as well call the prostitutes. THey are not prostitutes. THey want to be in a big flashy music video with "famous rappers" just doing what they want to do. If they didn't want to then they would'nt be there

Honestly, those videos make me cringe. I really feel bad for the other black girls in my generaation. It sends a negative image - that all we are are objects.

I'm kind of on the fence about this subject. On one hand, I do think it's degrading, because it's just another idealized image of what girls should look like, thus making normal girls feel worse about themselves. But on the other hand, those women decide to do it, so it's not really degrading, because you're only degraded when you're forced to do something, or something is done to you without your knowledge of it.

Well it's the way the music industry has been for sometime as far as rap goes anyway.

[Rap isn't the only culprit, though. As far as I know, rap became popular in the 80's. But before then, some rock-n-roll artists were just the same. "Sex, drugs & rock-n-roll," anyone?]

But rock never never shows the sex, drugs, or whatever. Rap in the 90's began actually showing that crap and hasn't changed it ever since. (This is also the reason why I don't listen to either rap or rock.)

oh really rock doesnt show it? i have seen a few rock videos from the 80's and they did indeed show women at least, no they did not show drug comsumption, but i dont recall any rap videos doing that either. I remember the video for that song " shes my cherry pie" or something like that, or the song where the guy has his own daughter dancing on the hood of some car, Rock is no better, but it seems because Rap is so popular it is used as a scapegoat while some of the more racy Rock videos fly under the radar.

[MTV played the video for Avenged Sevenfold's rock song "Bat Country" all the time. It looks like the band is in Las Vegas, complete with girls bouncing on beds in bras and panties.

No, I haven't seen the rock equivalent of BET's Uncut video hour anywhere, but that doesn't mean rock music videos are innocent. rolleyes

Where do you think the saying "sex, drugs and rock-n-roll" CAME from, anyway?? neutral

Ronin makes some valid points. 3nodding ]
