Kieren practically swelled with pride when Magaera thanked him for the flowers. He thought about going to pick some more, but then he decided that it might be overdoing it. He chose to show her where the flowers came from, instead.
"They grow around the trees here. In the shade, see?" He pointed them out by waving a paw in the air towards the patch of flowers. Some other ones grow in the sun over there, too. That's where Daddy likes to sleep. Near the white flowers." He giggled a little, thinking about how the pollen made him sneeze in the mornings.
Then Kieren went silent, listening. Where did everyone go? All he could hear was the wind blowing through the trees... His ears drooped sadly. Maybe they were out looking for him. Or maybe they left already... His young heart beat furiously in his chest. They wouldn't leave without him, would they?
"I-I better find my family soon..." He said to Magaera, looking thoroughly worried.

"Ohh! Those are pretty flowers too!" Magaera can't help but bark. She wags her tail and sniffs the flowers she has for a moment, then trots over and takes a good smell of those too. They weren't the most fragrant flowers in the world, but they were pretty. Besides, she loved all flowers. She spent a few moments nosing them when she heard Kieren. Her ears flicked towards him and she turned her head to look at him. She took in his sad face and her heart almost melted. He looked so sad and pitiful. She gives herself a shake and pads over to him, her tail wagging slightly from side to side. "Do you want em to help you?" She offers.

Kieren looked up at her, his head still lowered sadly. "Y-yeah, four eyes are better than one..." He nodded solemnly, then gave a little sniff. He felt a little bad about bringing Magaera all this way, but at least she seemed to enjoy the flowers, and she was willing to help. "Just look for anything as, as... as bright as me! They will stand out, especially my auntie and my daddy..." He gave a second sniff before he started searching. They couldn't have gone far, could they?
Why did that pup always wander off? She told him time and again to stay within her sight at all times, and yet he never seemed to listen! The independent spirit in him was admirable, but she wished he could show a little bit of restraint. Of course, she hadn't been paying attention... Gaspard had sloppily lost the kill she made for the pups on the way back to the clearing, and she had been furious. She, who works so hard, couldn't even ask him to do a simple thing like that! She hadn't quite forgiven him for that, yet. She hoped that she could find Kieren before Gaspard could make the day more disastrous.
She sniffed at the path, looking for any sign of the pup. Clearly he had been here; his scent was still strong. But who was that with him? A young female? Laera hurried down the path, trying to catch up.

"We'll find them! Don't worry!" She says and gives her tail a small wag. She wasn't entirely sure why she wanted to help him, but now she did. She gives him a reassuring lick to help him feel better. Maybe it was the flowers that got her to like him. She was such a sucker for them. "Do you know what way we should look?" She asks and sniffs the ground a little. It certainly smelled like him and his family, or what she assumed was his family. They had to be somewhere...

The kindness Magaera showed him made Kieren feel a little bit better. At least he wasn't completely alone.
"Yeah... We were traveling south, maybe they went that way," Kieren suggested, turning roughly in that direction and beginning to sniff the ground, too. The scents seemed to be all tangled up; he would have to work to find the freshest one. "It's better in the south during the winter," he said, repeating something Laera had told him. "More food and less cold."
The brightly coloured pup followed one of the scent trails into a thick bush, and started rummaging through the leaves.
Laera padded quickly down the path until she finally came to the familiar clearing. The scent of the pups was still strong, so she knew that they wouldn't be far. Carefully, as not to startle Kieren in case he bolted, she crept farther into the clearing. Then, she spotted Magaera's golden pelt. That must be the strange female. But where was Kieren? She couldn't see him in the bush.
Then, Laera feared the worst. Did this little pup do something to poor Kieren? She had seen and heard some pretty horrible things about the wolves that roamed Telk. Bloodthirsty packs who wouldn't be afraid to use a young pup as a decoy... A snarl twisted Laera's expression. She wouldn't stand for that!
Breaking cover, she dashed at Magaera, shouting with a harsh, growly tone. "You! Who are you? What did you do with Kieren?" Her shaggy fur bristled down her back, teeth bared at the small pup.

Magera didn't really think they'd went south. She thought birds went that way or something. She padded after him, sitting down and watching him rustle around in the bush. She didn't really think they'd be in a bush either. She figured though if they waited long enough one of them would show up, and if digging through a bush occupied the other pup's time, then let him do it.
She was relaxing when she heard a snarl behind her. Instinctively her fur fluffed up and she bared her fangs, whipping around to face the threat with a vicious growl despite her small size. Her tail lashed and she dug her claws into the ground. "Come any closer and I'll claw you!" She snaps at her, having completely missed what the other wolf said in her scramble to turn and face her.

"You'll claw me, little pup?" Laera had to resist the urge to smile. She was a cute one... A charmingly confident little thing. And she didn't look like a wrongdoer, but Laera still had to make sure of that. Laera flattened her fur and took a step back to give Magaera space, keeping her eyes steadily on her. "I asked you a question. Where is Kieren? I know he is here; I can smell him."
Ow ow ow ow! Sticks in his ears and leaves in his eyes! Kieren wiggled his butt back and forth in an attempt to free himself. He was nicely tangled in the branches. He hadn't been following his family's scent at all... He was following a squirrel! And he thought he heard a familiar voice behind him. Could it be Laera? After a bit more struggling, he braced his front paws on a sturdy branch in front of him and pushed. Out he rolled from the bush, tail first, landing with a thump on his rump.
Dazed, he looked around and finally spotted Laera. His whole body wiggled excitedly. "Auntie! Auntie!" He bounded a circle around her and then scurried over to Magaera, plopping himself beside her. "This is my friend Magaera! She was helping me look for you guys."

The young pup blinked at her, looking puzzled at the sudden switch in attitude from this older wolf. Her fur stayed bristled and fluffed up and she remained in a defensive stance. She was ready to strike if this female tried anything fishy. When Kieren Suddenly burst from the bushes, she flicked her tail and carefully watched his reaction to this other wolf. When he shouted 'Auntie', she relaxed visibly and let her fur settle down. So she wasn't a real threat after all. Magaera gingerly sat down next to him and looked at Laera, her ears pricked forward and her held held up defiantly. "Yeah. He got lost and I was trying to help him." She says with a huff. She was a little angry about how Laera had come at her like that, but she thought she'd understood why. She looked a little nervous being here now that her task was complete though. She was in another wolf's territory, but she was curious as to how they lived here.

"Kieren... How many times do I have to tell you not to wander off?" Laera let out an exasperated sigh and seemed to wilt, as if she was weary right down to the core. But she perked up a little and smiled at Magaera, feeling much more amiable towards the golden pup now that she had found Kieren. "Well thanks for helping him. Kieren couldn't find his ears if they weren't stuck to his head," she joked with a swish of her tail.
"Sorry Auntie..." He muttered quietly, bowing his head in the perfect picture of a pup feeling guilty about something. But, his eyes glanced towards Magaera and his lips twitched in a barely contained smile. He did it once, he'd do it again with no regrets!
Then his partial smile turned into an indignant frown after Laera's comment. "No that's no true! I would have found you guys eventually, honest!" He got to his paws and scurried to hide behind Magaera. "Right Magaera, right?"
Laera simply chuckled, and looked at Magaera once again. "I'm sorry for how I acted earlier, sweetie," she apologized with a bow of her head. "Unfortunately, we should be off before Kieren's brothers and sister get into trouble. Do you want us to walk you home?" Leara realized that Kieren wasn't the only pup that had gone astray. "I'm sure Kieren wouldn't mind..."

Magera couldn't help but chuckle at the two. She thought Kieren was fun to play with, even if he was such a goof. Just watching them together made her a little homesick even though she hadn't been away from her family for very long. She gave herself a shake and flicked her tail against Kieren's nose when he hid behind her. "Maybe, but I might have made it go a little faster." She chuckles, coming up with a fairly middle of the road response. Then her ears twitch when Laera addresses her. "It's all right, I should, I understand. And I can get home by myself, I know these woods pretty well." She chirps and wags her tail. "But if you want to come..." She says and glances back at Kieren.
