Cosplay annoyance? I cdon't know how to use a sewing machine. Nor do I have I one. In fact, I screwed up one of my cosplay outfits a few days ago because of that... crying And I stabbed my finger too...

One of my bigest annoyances is the fact that I hate our sewing machine, for right now anyway. My mother barely uses it and never got around to showing me how to do it, not that I would listen to her because she has no idea what she is doing anyway. I hand-sew everything I make right now, or cut-up something that I buy in a store. I shall be getting sewing instructions soon, thank goodness, from someone who will know how to make peace with our machine!
I am asking for a new one if even she can't work with it!

I've been getting annoyed with our sewing machine lately. I'm working on a project that requires me to fold over the fabric really thick in order to get the desired effect and I ended up breaking two needles within the past week. I know it's my fault, but it's still annoying.

Heh. I thought I was being clever when I was assembling the belts on my Lulu skirt by using a staple gun and a pair of pliers to turn them over. That went fine, no huge drama, until midway through the first day, the turned over backs of the staples start to rub my legs. Having no duct tape or band aids, I stick it out all day. I still have scars from that actually.
Note to self, cover metal bits or staple backs with duct tape before wearing costume.

Any shiny or stretchy fabric kills me. Same with running out of supplies when you were on a roll.

I was making a Tira costume from Soul Calibur 3 and it involves about two full boa lengths of feathers. I had to sew them onto the hem of my shorts, the wrists of my gloves and the collar of my shirt. The sewing itself was easy, but trying to find where the string went after you pulled it through the stich, now that's difficult.

Also, I had to sew some bais tape to the lining of a pair of leather black boots. I bent 3 needles and broke 2. But I got it done...and it looks ok, not great...but ok

I. Hate. My. Sewing. Machine. Alright, my sewing machine is the biggest piece of crap on this contininent! >< The bobbin keeps comming undone every 2 stitches and its a pain to even get the bobbin in in the first place! Then my hands get all greasy from putting in the bobbin and bothers the material I'm using!
Also... patterns for things like cloaks, long coats, etc that are like... 7 feet long... and you get just the amount of fabric it says you'll need.... and you're one inch short..... >< EVIL PATTERN!

I had done a few last-minute hand-stitches on my pants and top for my Izumi Curtis costume, and they all popped out. It was bad.

I think the biggest annoyance I have had was sewing through thick layers. >.< It's such a pain in the.. well, you know what. >.>
Another is when the needle breaks, and all the stores are closed and that was the LAST one you had. ;_; 'tis sad.

That's what hammers are for, sersiously thick layers or hemmed edges, hammmer them to hell and it takes off enough to sew through. biggrin
