/Continued from the moon-viewing festival! Kuan-yin Chao ☯ ☯ ☯ Romane was odd to consider something such as trusting others to be a bad thing. Cid did not fully understand why she viewed it as such, but decided against asking. He was starting to think that maybe there was nothing wrong with his ability to trust, but something wrong with Romane.. but would never say that to her. Once she completed answering his question, Cid had to think about a proper response about his own. Really, he could not see a flaw in Romane besides for her inability to trust someone. He just didn't really dislike anything in particular, besides for coffee, so he couldn't really comment too much on this. "I.. do not see any flaws that you have which would make it so that I would not wish to have you as a partner. However, being a monk, it is something I cannot do."
It basically amounted to him not being able to date her because of who he is. Not that he ever even thought about doing that. Cid had no idea what dating involved. Hell, he even thought the term dating meant to pick a specific date on the calendar. This did ask the question he asked Winifred a few days ago though. He did wonder what flaws he would have to not meet someone's requirements. "The only reason I can come up with for why I do not wish to be your romantic partner is that I am a monk. Other than that you meet all my 'requirements' to be in a relationship."

Oh. So.. Then it seems that, aside from the time limit Romane had to abide by to be in a proper relationship, it was their statuses that was all that kept them from being in a relationship. Ah, there was also the fact that every relationship had a high risk in ending in rape, murder, or at least abuse. Though, Cid didn't look like any of those, there was still the possibility, which was why she had to watch him closely even when he was acting as her personal guard. How she managed to get to sleep was beyond her; or at least it was beyond her conscious. Regardless, she was pleased to hear that she hadn't been incorrect and he hadn't lied to her before. She was still a suitable partner for a suitable male like Cid. “Agreed. There is no point in considering it as there is no situation in which we would be capable of maintaining a healthy, romantic relationship. It is better, however, as it is safer to remain outside of one.” She informed him to.. well, to inform him. She doubted Cid knew very much on statistics.. or the skewed ones she had been taught to keep in mind. She was still set on educating Cid before he left!
“It is highly possible for one such as yourself to become a victim inside an intimate relationship. You should be wary of any female – or male – who would attempt to initiate one with you, unless you can truly ascertain whether they are safe individuals.” Which one couldn't possibly do without being able to read minds which, again, wasn't possible. So, all in all, that meant that relationships were too dangerous to even think on trying, duties aside. A few joys shouldn't force someone to sacrifice their overall safety, after all! In fact, now that she thought on it.. “'Friends' should also be treated with caution as not all rapists will wait to initiate a relationship to attempt to commit the act.”
She frowned – oh, but that left out.. “Strangers, as well, could attempt to kill, rape, or harm you – it would be best to treat them cautiously.. Even individuals you have known for an extended period of time could become insane at any given moment. Animals and children should be included. However, dogs are safe.” This.. was really starting to become a lesson in safety, since every time Romane quieted and tried to leave it at that, she remember another safety tip that she doubted Cid knew. The only reason she stopped talking right then was because she was trying to figure out which of the dozens of thoughts that came to mind she should say next. And it would be nice to let Cid ask a question, like good students always did. Well, aside from Romane, since her father didn't like questions, but Romane was the teacher here and enjoyed inquires on her thoughts.

Kuan-yin Chao ☯ ☯ ☯ Cid smiled, seeming as if he found what Romane said funny. Since he did. Her complete lack in trust in everyone and everything was.. rather amusing. Though he felt very bad for finding it such, but what else could she expect? "Ah, Ms Romane. I have yet to meet someone who has not treated me with the same respect and kindness as I treat them." He responded happily. Cid did believe that being nice to others made them nice to you as well, and it has been true mostly. "As there are a few people who are as you describe them, people generally do not act in violence or with malicious intent. At the base, a person may not be good, but they are not always bad." He said this all while still looking up at the sky.
He did not stare at it for long, as he turned to look back at her. "Ms Romane, how many people have you know that so far in the island have committed a murder, rape, or assault of any kind?" He looked forward again and shook his head gently. "I do not doubt that bad people as you describe exist, but I also do not believe that they exist as often as you may believe, in my travels the only person I have considered 'bad' so far is whoever committed arson to yourself. The hundreds of friends and known people I have made in the past however, they have all been rather nice..."

Yes, of course. Romane should have guessed. She stared at Cid flatly, disappointed that he didn't believe her, but, to be honest, she didn't believe her father very much at first either. Or she had, but her father had said she hadn't and.. it was a rather confusing thought, but she learned not to question anything regarding her parent, so it must have been that she didn't really believe him. She frowned at what the monk said – hundreds..? How on earth did Cid survive?! Certainly almost all of those people must have been plotting his demise or rape or something treacherous like that with him only managing to avoid it through sheer luck and naivety! Him moving from place to place must have allowed him to escape such fates. It was the only explanation that made sense to her and somehow helped ease her nerves. But, she had to return her thoughts on how she could get through that barrier he had that made him believe there were few bad people in the world! What had her father done..? There were the stories, video tapes, pictures, jail visits, ah.. but. They didn't have anyone in their cell..
She didn't have much to work with, now that she thought on it.. But, Cid had asked a question! She could use that to her advantage! She looked at him and prepared herself to answer, but, to be honest, there weren't that many people that had committed any of those acts.. yet. She took a breath and crossed her arms in thought, since that was usually regarded as a thinking position. “There has been.. ah, there has..” She muttered – there had to be some number she could come up with! Ah. She looked at him again, having moved her eyes to the ground while she pondered. “Six. There have been six cases involving rape, assault, or murder. A blind girl was kidnapped and molested, a battery and assault on the school grounds to another girl, several people were murdered during the Masquerade, as you should remember, several assault and battery charges occurred one night at the club, and a female was raped by an older man.” That was everything she remember that had evidence! She was an avid reader of the local paper now that she found out that no one at the station would let her in on the current cases. “Regardless of the number of situations in which those events have occurred, it is still more beneficial to assume that they can and will happen.”

Kuan-yin Chao ☯ ☯ ☯ "Ah, four Ms Romane. Two of those did not occur as you state them. At least how he was informed said they did not occur in that way. Ever since he saved Mandy and Zachery, the Valentine's - well Holly - were sure to rant about things that have happened.. which is not always very good for Cid, as he cannot do anything but stand and listen. "If I recall correctly, were not most of those deaths also because of wild animals?" Besides for one. "Ms Romane, you must remember that crime does happen, however not nearly as often as I believe you make it out to be... also most of the other crimes really only happen because of one, maybe two people in this island..." Paprika was the cause of at least 20% of the crimes, with the Sex Bullets at the cause of maybe 60% on average when in town.. though they're usually let off by the NPC cops due to that money and fame.
Cid shook his head at the last part, and smiled at her once more. "I am a monk Ms Romane, so I respect your beliefs as I am glad you respect my own.. however I cannot help but to believe that if you took some different views, you might be.. more happy." He responded. Greatly disliking the fact that he wished Romane would somewhat be happier through changing her own mindset, but like he said; he was a monk. He couldn't judge someone by their belief. "Erm.. I apologize if I assumed far too much about your happiness, it was a slip that I regret very much.. I just have never seen you smile."

It would have been five if she informed him that she had been assaulted herself, but she refused to comment on that. Didn't happen, not even if she thought it could raise the number a tad and make it more believable on Cid's account that the world was much more dangerous than he was lead to believe.. No, it still did not occur. She needed to stop remembering it. Romane shooed those thoughts away stubbornly and went back to listening to Cid, but gave him a look of protest soon after. It didn't happen that often?! What nonsense was he speaking of?! And only by one or two people! There were at least five people she could think of! Paprika, the doctor, the nurse, MGX, and the fan culprit! Then there was the mafia family, too, and that one time Holly had randomly attacked some teenage boy – though Romane let that slide since said teenage boy was in the mafia.. or, supposed ex-mafia. She scoffed and scowled at what he said, disliking how much he was disregarding when it came to her tips. Was this why her father disliked questions? If she acted like this, she couldn't blame him for how he acted!
But, before she could say anything, she forced herself to calm down. This was still Cid. If she started accusing him of being like that doctor, then she wouldn't have anyone and.. She liked having someone. She was still on guard, but at least she had someone to accompany her to festivals and share meals with. Plus, she needed to remember that Cid didn't know any better and she couldn't expect results from one – what? Romane raised an eyebrow. Her.. happiness..? Romane was plenty happy! She was always happy when she was doing her work! ..Somewhat. Well, she was happy when she was patrolling. ..A little.. Ah, but there was joy in cleaning her guns! ..Romane was going to stop trying to find things that she was happy doing now since she didn't like where this was leading. Regardless, she was quite.. content.. She frowned and frowned even further when he added in that last bit.
“I smile.” She defended with a snap, but.. Now that she thought on it, when did she..? When she was kidnapped and on that brainwashing medication. She cleared her throat and scanned their surroundings again. “I do not see how happiness is very important when compared to one's own safety.” Which was true – either live long or end up dying in a cruel, horrible way. The point of life was to survive! ..To Romane, at least.

Kuan-yin Chao ☯ ☯ ☯ "But what is the point of being safe and alive, if you do not spend your current time enjoying it?" Cid asked, still smiling. He did believe in reincarnation and all, so he wasn't too worried about dying in the least bit. He has been a good person his entire life, and will be rewarded for such in the next life, he just hoped others would do the same. Of course, if he said all this to someone like Romane, she would probably think he's being odd. She did not seem the type to respect one's beliefs if they did not make sense to her, so he kept them to himself. "I am sure you are content Ms Romane, as one should be, however I do wish to see you smile once, smile and laugh. Such actions that indicate one is enjoying themselves..."
The monk scooted closet to Romane, turning to face her. He pulled down his facemask, showing his mouth, then smiled. "See? Smile. It is a simple action. I believe you should attempt to do so. Simply.. flex the muscles, the ones nearby your mouth, if not mistaken, that will make a smile." It was difficult to explain how to smile for him. He really had no idea on how to describe it, as it was something that came natural normally.

No, Romane wouldn't have thought 'reincarnation' made sense at all, but she wasn't getting much out of what Cid did say either. He wanted her to smile and laugh? Just like that? Such an action should require practice and preparation, not to mention she didn't find them very.. No, Romane had already claimed she smiled, she couldn't ask for time to practice! It was honesty that had her keeping this friendship! A lie would just ruin it and she would have to find a way home alone then.. Not to mention Cid had already given her plenty of things, she should give something in return – the hug! ..Did she honestly think a hug could be a proper gift in return to getting a house and friend? She tensed for a moment when he moved closer, but reminded herself that this was Cid. His weapon was within both their reaches, anyway, so she just had to count on herself to get it first should he attempt anything.
“I understand how to smile, Mr. Kuan-yin.” She informed him irritatedly, though she was more frustrated by the situation than the monk himself. “You.. honestly wish to see me smile..?” She left out laughing since, well, a smile was enough! She doubted she could laugh without making a fool of herself, not that she thought she wouldn't with only a smile.. She looked at him before glancing away for no real reason aside from feeling self conscious. It was juvenile, but she knew her smile was.. odd. She was told so! “Do not, ah, laugh if I attempt – or if I do, as I do not..” Where was she going with this? She frowned, cursed herself internally since that was the exact opposite of what she was supposed to be doing, and took in a deep breath. It was only a smile! A quirk of the lips! It shouldn't be difficult! And it wasn't! She was only.. preparing herself..
Another breath and she started to – no, wait, she stopped.. She sighed and tried again, but it was too crooked! Or was it? She didn't have a mirror.. Damn it, just get it over with! She forced a quick, small smile that didn't quite reach her eyes, not that that mattered as they continued to linger off to the side. Once it dropped, she turned away to look at the sky in an instant to hide any color on her cheeks. That was embarrassing! She didn't understand why, but she was certain she had messed it up somehow and it probably wasn't what Cid had hoped to see or.. “I apologize, it is not a familiar action..” She muttered, disliking admitting to that earlier lie.

Kuan-yin Chao ☯ ☯ ☯ How odd. For some reason Cid found himself filled with terror seeing Romane's smile. This is saying a lot too, since Cid has fought some beasts in his time. He's fist fought gorillas, punched attacking sharks in the face, and at one point he even beat a grizzly bear at yahtzee, which to many is considered one of the most difficult things to do. Yet Romane's smile was far more terrifying than any danger he's faced before. Which is saying even more, as with a name like Kuan-yin, Cid had to be tough or die! Still, maybe with more practice it wouldn't be too bad. The young man showed no fear, which he was well trained to do. "It is rather pretty Ms Romane, you should do so more often. Now if only you were capable of laughing, if only I knew of some sort of technique that could possibly help you accomplish this goal in some way..."
Cid thought for a moment. Hmm.. wait! There was one thing he heard of. Cid reached for Romane, and attempted to tickle her. He did hope that she still didn't have her gun, as he wasn't one to notice if she did or not, as if she did.. well she might end up shooting him. But such is a risk one takes whenever they attempt to become friends with a woman such as Ms Romane. Hopefully this would work too. Maybe if he's lucky, it might work as well as a nice scratching behind the ears calms down a tiger or a wolf into being his animal friend for a short while~

Her smile was pretty? That only embarrassed her more! But, it was a nice thought.. It was better than being called something negative like she was used to! Her.. acquaintances often said her smile was creepy, but they must have been incorrect for her friend, who could only be honest to her, said otherwise! She was pretty happy, actually, even if it made her nervous for whatever reason. She would have went on to tell him that she found his smile pretty as well, but now he was talking about laughing. She creased her brow – she had thought he had forgotten about that half of the request! If he still remembered it, it meant she had to attempt it, but she wasn't sure laughing was as easy as smiling was! There wasn't any muscle she could use or.. anything – it was a noise! That varied from cute to obnoxious depending on who was doing it! She wasn't sure what her own laugh was like since, well, she didn't find many – if any – jokes funny, she didn't really enjoy something so much that it would make her laugh, and she didn't think she was –
Her heart stopped for a moment as she came to realize with a creeping fear that Cid was.. touching her. Not in the same way as he had before, not like the hug, but he was just.. crawling his hands over her..? In a completely nonsexual fashion? That confusion only held her still for a moment before she jumped backwards and scrambled to her feet while holding back some kind of noise she assumed to be a shriek, but was more likely a giggle. Automatically, a hand went to where she usually kept her holster, but she was reminded that she didn't have her gun! And then she had to remind herself that she didn't want to shoot Cid because that may kill him and she wouldn't have a friend anymore. Added in that killing him was against her morals unless he was a threat and then that her career would be in jeopardy.. Ah, nevermind that, she needed to get away to-to the woods! She turned on her heel and started a dash that way, but stopped since.. the woods were dark at night and she could be running into a group of nomadic rapists! She turned back around halfway, because turning completely towards Cid would have her back to the dark, but now her back was also to – ah. She needed to stop before she hyperventilated! Some part of her wanted to inform her that it was too late for that, but she ignored that to carefully come back over to Cid's side.
She swallowed and sat back down, pulling her knees up to somehow protect herself should he attempt to do whatever he was trying to do again. “..Whatever maneuver you were attempting, I would appreciate it if you were to avoid doing it in the future. I do not find it pleasant.” Of course not, it had almost caused a complete panic attack! Well, it kinda did, but she wasn't shaking or anything! Not anymore, anyway. Ah, damn it.

Kuan-yin Chao ☯ ☯ ☯ Ah, she didn't have her firearm after all. Cid thought as he noticed her reaching for her holster. This very much pleased him, since being shot was not something that Cid wished to experience right now. However, hearing her odd giggle - that for a woman such as Romane was completely unfitting - he could not help but to chuckle himself. That was rather adorable, but maybe he should have thought about this, as Romane wasn't too good at hiding her panicking. So the young man stood up with her, and waited a moment hoping that she would calm down before speaking once more. When Romane did finally come back to his side and sat down, he just held his hand out, to offer to help her up once more. "That was something that I have once in the past heard someone call tickling, it is some form of action that causes the receiver to laugh, as I believe you have done so the moment that you stood up and attempted to reach for your firearm." He explained, as if it was something that very few people knew about.
"Let me help you up Ms Romane, it is getting rather late into the night. A good night's sleep is rather important to one, as if not they would end up staying awake until the early morning and not be up once more until the midday, then they will be unable to do early morning activities such as the first tea of the morning." Nothing is nicer than the first tea in the morning after all! The song of the birds at the rise of the sun had nothing on the taste of the tea he only has in the morning, with a little bit of honey. Though considering Romane's breathing, it might also be good to get her home so she doesn't end up freaking out and running into the woods to be attacked by a wild animal. At least at home, she would only have to worry about a wild animal breaking in.

Romane had went to focusing on not having a heart attack, though she doubted one could honestly prevent a heart attack if she were to have one simply by thinking. Still, she had to try to calm down! There wasn't anything dangerous – she was still next to Cid, no gun shots, no tasers, no odd, masked men – Cid excluded – she was safe. She took deep breath after deep breath until she felt like she could breath without a hitch, but she was still holding her legs to her chest. She had learned awhile ago that this was the safest position she could take and that it made her feel better, especially since she used it so often while she was in that 'ward'. She looked up at Cid as he explained himself, frowning in shame as she realized she had panicked over tickling. Well, she didn't know what it was! No one had ever done it to her before or explained it very well! But, really, that was a game for children and Romane had started to hyperventilate and shake over it..
That aside, had Romane actually laughed..? She silently cursed – she wanted to hear how her laugh sounded! Just in case it was as odd as she thought it was! ..But, that also meant Cid had heard it. She thought on asking him if he found it odd, but refrained because she really didn't want to know. It was best to assume that it was and to avoid doing it again. At least she had given Cid what he wanted, however strange the requests were. She glanced between him and his hand for a moment, unsure if she wanted to get out of her defensive position just yet. He was correct, though.. She didn't want to stay up too late – losing sleep meant she would be less alert the next morning and that could get her killed! Plus, being indoors was much safer than being out in the wilderness like this. She took his hand and let him help her up, though it was much easier now that she understood what had just happened. She was just a bit irritated that she had allowed it to panic her like that.
“Affirmative, I would prefer if we were to return to our residence quickly, Korth and Mauser need to be fed, I believe.” She added as an excuse to hurry home, continuing to hold his hand solely because she was on edge. She couldn't watch him to make sure he was still there since she had to watch her surroundings for any approaching dangers, so keeping his hand helped assure her that he hadn't wandered off. Though, remembering that earlier talk.. She forced herself to drop it and simply kept close. She didn't want to accidentally give some kind of signal again. It was more difficult to keep him in sight as well as the area, but she attempted to manage it while she waited for him to start moving.

Kuan-yin Chao ☯ ☯ ☯ Cid made no effort in moving his hand away from her in anyway, instead he nodded to what she said, and very much planned to hold her hand the way home. She seemed to do slightly better this way. So instead he bent down to grab his spade and attempted to move so that their hands could remain held.. which ended up seeming very odd, more like a weird handshake while trying to learn one's directions. Shortly after he had his spade, and knew which way to head off to, Cid walked off to head back home, still holding her hand~

xxxxxxxxxxxx After dumping her stuff off with her brother and leaving him to surprise Jocelyn, that whiny, dumb girl who is almost as clingy as Toby-- Um, actually, they were alright-- Avery made her way to the field, the place where she could be the most alone, to just think about what to do next. It was a good plan just to get all the worrying out now, wasn't it? Alone, with just the friendly grass and the dew drops, the wind tousling her hair... it was just... calming, to say the least. Although she was wearing wedges and skinny jeans-- Toby said 'cool' girls wore them these days' Avery nimbly made her way towards the only thing that wasn't green-- the shrine.
She'd read about these things, they were a symbol of the fairies that guarded the island... or something. Was she supposed to... give an offering or something? Avery wasn't very religious but she might as well get on whatever spirits lived here's good side. She angrily took her shoes off and set them by the shrine to find later and pranced about, looking for the most perfect flower she could find.
After settling on a vibrant purple monk's hood-- aconitum columbianum to be exact-- she calmly walked back to the shrine and set it on top, admiring the little statue before lying down in the damp grass, and just watching the clouds go by. It was a past time of hers, and a rather memorable one at that.
She smiled at the sky, then frowned at herself for following Toby's advice. These jeans were horrible. It's like they were trying to strangle your legs. She was used to flowy dresses, or regular jeans... these were just horrible. She returned her gaze back to the sky, a scorn on her face. If she had the balls guts to do it, she would just take them off right now... no one would ever visit here, right? People were too busy nowadays with that Facebook stuff. And video games. Who was she kidding, she liked video games too, as much as she hated to admit it. Oh, how she wished Toby took the PS3 so she could play FFXIII. xxxxxxxx

✪✪ ✪Ari Kynn✪✪ ✪✪✪ ✪Ari walked out to the field, and looked around. There was a shrine, but nothing else seemed to be nearby, and more importantly, no one else. He did notice a nice flower on the shrine though, was that for a spirit of some sort? Well, maybe he had better leave an offering too, just in case. After all, he would be hanging out here for a while.... He walked up to the shrine and rummaged around in his pockets, before pulling out a few leaves of mint. He had found them earlier. He put them near the flower on the shrine, but made sure they wouldn't blow away. That would keep the shrine smelling nice and fresh. He looked down, and saw... Shoes? Were those an offering too? Did someone leave them here? Too bad the angle he was at blocked him from seeing the other person in the area. Oh well, whoever was here wouldn't be a big deal. He wouldn't bother them anyways. He walked away from the shrine a ways, at least a hundred or so feet, before reaching to his back. He pulled his short sword from underneath his jacket, and looked it over, before starting to practice. He gracefully went through some basic moves, slices, parrys, things like that, before going through more strenuous moves. One of them even evolved a back flip! He practiced diligently though, not wanting to get rusty... ✪✪ ✪
