Something to Replace
We could always write our own article and submit it..
It be fun! n_n We could all pitch in and everything. razz
And if they say they already have one on that subject we could tell them they don't. They have one about the stereo-types on Wiccans, but not the actaully religion..

I think that's a REALLY good idea, and we should start on it immediately. I'd pull some good lines out of the Wikipedia article (if it's any good, I've yet to read it, honestly) and start from there.

I'm not too good at writing anythign article-ish without it ending up sounding more like an academic term paper than an article. It would informative and educational, but just plain old boring if I wrote it.

So.

Any suggestions?

I can say that I'm not mad about it. I've learned that after a while you can't take anything from Urban Dictionary seriously. Also in one way it is true there are a lot of people that call themselves wiccan, but know nothing about it, because they only want to it to rebel against their parents and society.

These are kids looking for a way out of reality because they feel they don't fit in enough at school, or with friends, and also have a number of personal issues, running from being overweight, can't get a girlfriend/boyfriend, or their parents are crazy fundamentalists and this is the way to strike back!

I think that part might be one of the most ridiculous. I fit in at school, have an abundance of friends, few personal issues, not in the least overweight (considerably underweight as I only weigh 105 pounds (I'm not unhealthy though)) I have a boyfriend, and we've been dating for almost a year, and my parents... well they're crazy... but my being wicca is not a way to strike back at them by no means.

If you think that the definition of Wicca on urban dictionary is bad (and it has improved, last time I checked) try the definition of religion. It's enough to want to make me slap some people for their bigoted ignorance...

I think that religions were originally started not only to explain the reasons why things happened, but to provide some moral values. But there are so many ignorant people that take religions and warp it for whatever they want it to be, that no one really knows what to believe.

That's probably part of it. From what I've observed, a larger part of it seems to stem from the relatively narrow conceptualization of religion that most Westerners have. Religious diversity isn't normally taught in schools so people grow up being relatively ignorant of anything other than what they grow up with (which is usually an Abrahamic religion). They then think that all religions are like Christianity or all concepts of deity are like that of Abrahamic religions when they aren't. Ah well.

Ignorance is no excuse, I think. We live in a day and age where information is at our fingertips, no less at our disposal. It makes no sense that people can't get off myspace for more than 2 seconds to learn about anything at all.
It just frustrates (spelling?) me.
But like you said, Oh well.

That is so stupid! There are people in my school who think like that, I can't sit in the library without some ignorant person going on at me... ah well, what goes around, comes around.

i remember, for the longest time i was atheist, and really for one reason, because all religions were created by man (human, whatever). and humans tend to screw up so most(or all) would pretty much be wrong, but thats a pretty good point, morale values, and explanations.(personally i like greek mythology)
