I certainly hope so, but I still believe that the points the page raises are valid, and some of the problem questions still exist.
I think some of her criticisms miss the point. For example, many people give their characters gratuitous Japanese names because Japan is perceived as cool. On the other hand, an... oh, say, Afrikaans name wouldn't have the "cool" factor and so nobody would be using it as a badge of "I'm more awesome than you because I have a name that came from that awesome country of Japan."
Actually, that's not the kind of thing I'm talking about. More like, "Does your character have a nickname or title?" What superhero doesn't? How does that make a Mary Sue? Or: "Does your character speak a foreign language?" So what if they do?
Those are the sort of questions I take issue with. The "De-Sueifiers," too...most characters aren't horrendously ugly or have berserker rages. Things like that.
Now, my definition of a Mary Sue is a character that always does everything (and I mean everything) perfectly, and everyone loves her no matter what, and has no flaws whatsoever.
