Tamu's mouth gaped open as Nyota's mother unleashed her insults...having grown up with a rather placid family he'd never before been privy to a lioness with such a temper. Wait they were going to ..drive him off? I mean sure he'd expected some yelling and terrible words or something but he'd never considered that they would drive him away from the entire area..what about his mother? and brother?
'Wa..wait now" He started to contend the order but then Nyot's father started moving and he was a really large lion and Tamu had never fought before, he skittered backwards a bit while he tried to come up with some ideas, his mind whirling wildly until he caught the males wink. Now he was just confused and didn't move again until the male pushed against him driving him back a few more steps as he sent Nyota a look to Nyota. Should he go? Or stand his ground?

Nyota couldn't believe what her mother had just said...well no she could, but she had hoped that Maua would at least give then a chance to explain. Even her father seemed inclined to just let her do as she wished. Granted she understood give that he did have to share a den with her. When her father stepped forward she felt almost defeated. Of all the lions in the pride surely he would give her a chance to explain. He tossed her that wink and she knew that he was up to, but it still wasn't right.
She looked back at Tamu as he started to back away, he looked scared. It wasn't right at all. Couldn't they just talk about this like adults? "No, you can't!" She yelled and stepped forward, trying to prevent her father from continuing to push Tamu away. She had to think of something, anything to get them to stop. "Please don't make him go." And then because she was desperate she blurted out the first thing that came to her mind. "Let him stay...I am carrying his cubs!" Okay, so that was an utter lie, but she was desperate to get them to stop, and surely an announcement like that, even a fake one, would bring everything to a grinding halt.

Everything was going splendidly, Kivuli hadn't argued with her and was driving off this meddlesome male before he could further corrupt her daughter, giving her one less distraction to keep her from becoming a proper noble. Even the male was cooperating she thought with satisfaction as he skittered backwards with that scared look on his face - although she had assumed that he would Kivuli was clearly so much stronger.
But.
Then the world broke...
... and silence descended on the lions as surely as if all the breath had been stolen from their lungs. Maua's eyes narrowed into thin dangerous slits and she settled into a stillness that was both unnerving and unnatural as she stared at her daughter. It was several long moments before any sound returned to the area and when it did it was not a good sound as Maua's dangerously low voice broke the stillness "What..did...you...say?"

Pushing Tamu back certainly was easier than he expected, Kivuli was a good deal larger than the younger male. And the look of fear in his eyes certainly mean that Tamu would not resist. Even when Nyota stepped forward in an attempt to stop him it didn't work. He had to make sure this lion was taken away from Maua, after all this was all just for show to keep his mate happy. And then those words broke through his mind and Kivuli froze. Did he hear that right? His little daughter was carrying cubs? This males cubs? Something in Kivuli snapped and the normall laid back lion was in a rage.
"WHAT?" He roared at Nyota and Tamu. "Nyota Vumbi, how dare you?!?" For him to not only yell but to use her full name told them that he meant business. "I knew you were foolish but I never thought you could be so stupid. And you!" His eyes moved to Tamu, a growl escaping him. "You forced yourself upon her didn't you?" If it wasn't for that one last shred of calmness within him Kivuli might have very well attacked Tamu right then and there.

Tamu's frightened eyes flipped from frightened to completely surprised when Nyota uttered those words and he even took his eyes from Kuvuli to stare at her. In retrospect that might not have been the be thing to do and it was really fortunate that the bigger male kept hold of some control or Tamu would be toast by now.
As it was the males big booming voice made his head snap back to Kivuli and he cowered just a touch a the insinuation. "N-n-no Sir!" He promised fervently wishing that Nyota would help him "I would never hurt her..she's my best friend!" He protested "Why would she come back to me if I hurt her like that?" Which seemed like a logical thing to say.

Nyota felt like her heart stopped for a few too many seconds longer than it should have when it got eerily quiet and her mother stared at her with those slitted eyes. Holy crap. Never before had Nyota ever feared her mother, but in this very moment she thought for sure Maua would kill her with that stare alone. But somehow, by some miracle, she managed to keep to face neutral and not show any fear. In fact she boldly took a step forward, head held high in defiance. While she didn't want to keep up the lie, she knew she had to or they would certainly do something terrible to both her and Tamu. So she was forced to repeat the offending lie. "I said that I am carrying his cubs."
And then, something happened that she never thought she would ever see in her lifetime. Her father, the calm understanding one started to yell...at her. Ears flattened against her skull, but that was the only outward sign of her fear and submission to his anger. She couldn't break under them no matter what. Her eyes ticked to Tamu, she wished she could tell him the truth, but there was no way to do it right now, so he was forced to be wrapped up in this web of lies.
"Father." She said in as calm and unshaking voice as she could manage. "Please understand. Don't hurt him...he didn't force himself on me, and I didn't force myself on him. He's my friend and..." She swallowed hard, about to say something that was the truth but found it oddly harder to spit out than the lie. "...and I love him."

Maua was well she wasn't in shock so much as pure paralyzing rage, it's scary when you get so very angry that you can't move - if spontaneous combustion were indeed possible Maua almost certainly would have gone down in a pillar of flames right about then.
She was going to kill Nyota. She was..no if ands or buts about it. Nyota was dead, beyond dead, dead buried, dug up and killed again! She'd ruined everything - no ranking noble would bother looking at her now, she was ruined - which was something Maua might have been able to overlook if she had at least had the sense to ruin herself with a purple lion. She could have saved face then..but now well...well perhaps there was still a chance, Nyota was quite purple the cubs could take after her.
Surely they wouldn't be as good as they might have been if Nyota had been smarter but they had to have at least a bit of purple on them right? Maua didn't think she could stand having common grandchildren..the embarrassment of that would break her it would! She'd be so ashamed!
When the rage died down enough and let her speak once more Maua marched forward and shoved her face into her daughter's defiant one "You had better hope your spawn have some purple on them my daughter, unless you want to watch as they slave away in the worst possible positions in the pride..and I will do my very best to ensure that is done should they be birthed with his mongrel coloring" She promised in a vicious and sincere tone before turning and marching off back to wards the pride. Seriously if she stayed any longer she really would kill the little bastards.

Kivuli was not one to stay mad for long, granted he had never in his life been so angry over something, but even now he could feel himself calming down. Honestly right now he was much more disappointed than angry. Taking a step away from Tamu the large lion sighed. This was honestly the last thing he had expected Nyota to do. And Nyota's pleading only made his anger dissipate more so.
When Maua spoke Kivuli stood in silence. He did hope the cubs would have purple on them for all their sake, these would be his first grandchildren and he wanted them to live good lives within the pride. He would love them even if they didn't. Looking over to his mate as she finished her speech and started to walk off, Kivuli looked to his daughter. "I am very disappointed in you Nyota." But he was not going to press the issue any further. Turning he padded off quickly, catching up with Maua and preparing himself for the earful he would get on the way back to the prides lands.

Tamu was more then glad to see Nyota's parents leave and he waited for them to get a good distance away before he went to Nyota and butted her lightly with his head. "I'm sorry Nyota.." He told her rather choked up at the way things had gone - he hadn't meant to screw up her life so terribly and he certainly hadn't meant to get her pregnant...
Stupid stupid stupid! Tamu told himself and now look? "What do you think they'll do now?" he asked her with a glance at her parents retreating forms

Nyota's limbs were shaking so much she could barely stand now. She had always known she was a disappointment in her mothers eyes, but to hear that from her father cut her to the bone. Flopping onto her backside, she stared blankly as her parents walked off. Even when Tamu lightly bumped his head into hers she didn't react right away. She was in too much shock that she had not only survived but that her mother had had a slight change of face.
Finally reality seemed to set in and she let out a breath she didn't even know she had been holding in. Pushing her face into Tamu's mane Nyota closed her eyes for a moment. She couldn't believe she had just lied to her parents, to Tamu. She had to tell him the truth at least. "It's alright." She told him, her voice half muffled by his mane before she pulled back to look at him. "It was a lie Tamu. I'm not pregnant...I just said that to stop them." Gods she hoped Tamu wouldn't be upset at her for saying such a horrible lie, the last thing she wanted was for him to be mad at her as well.

Understanding dawned on Tamu's face when she told him it had been a lie and he sighed slightly "Oh Nyota...you should have just let him beat on me some, they'e going to find out it was a lie at some point" He told her - well know she could always claim to have lost the cubs but really piling more lies on top of the ones already said didn't seem like the wise choice in this situation. "It's okay though, it will be alright..we still have each other.." He told her bumping his head into hers again - he couldn't be mad at her for saying what she had, she'd only been trying to protect him.

"No, I would never let them hurt you. I stand by my decision." It didn't matter that they would one day find out it was a lie, she was dead to them now, she had seen that in Maua's look earlier. So even admitting to the lie or them eventually finding it out on their own would not put her back into her parents good graces. Drawing her tongue across his cheek Nyota felt her fears slowly draining away. "We will always have each other, no matter what."
Even if she had to leave her pride and her family behind, she would always have Tamu. "Can we go somewhere?" She asked, knowing now that it would not matter if she headed home right away or ever for that matter. Right now she just wanted to be with Tamu, it didn't matter where they went or what they did, she just needed to be with him.

Tamu found himself fervantly hoping that this would all blow over for the better rather then the worse and he warmed a little as Nyota licked him. "Of course we can" He told her quietly - they both probably needed a bit of relaxation after that mess and surely her parents could do with a bit of cooling off before Nyota went home.
Turning about he lead her off towards the cave they had explored not to long ago - it was nice and quiet and dark there just what one needed to relax after a stressful time. He might have taken them to the waterfall but that was a good bit farther away. There they would take stock of things again and figure out what to do next..
