A quick and heavy twist of his body left Nicolai in a spin, spiralling into the air, catching once- twice- three hits from the fangs' tips on Akorigarita's hilt. Dark purple sparks sprayed from the clashing metal. His left arm came backward with the sword as he drifted back away from his assailant. He landed on one heel and one knee, Akorigarita running protectively along his back.
"I called to you to bring us together, not to have you KILL me!" he scoffed a little. "You're an Irikaran, and I figured you'd belong with the rest of us!"
Time to end this. The Akorigarita couldn't kill Miashiu with even the most deft blow, merely leave him "mortally incapacitated" for a few days. There would be time to calm him if he could only land a blow...
However, too many thoughts had already snaked their way into Nicolai's mind. Rashly, foolishly, he charged forward, bringing Akorigarita forward and across his front, ready to slash overhandedly against Miashiu.

It was regrettable that the conversation would come to an end this soon. There was much that Miashiu was curious about.
As Nicolai charged, Miashiu did two things- first, he held his blades close to his chest, angled upwards and inward. Second, he dropped to his knees, and felt Akorigarita's swing pass over his head.
Then, inside its reach, he stood. It was not even necessary to move his arms. One longfang penetrated just under the sternum, piercing up and into the heart, while the other pushed forward into Nicolai's stomach, until there was the grating of bone on metal as his longfang punctured the spinal cord and exited in back.
He stood there a moment, seeming almost to be holding Nicolai intimately close- his shoulders supported the Shadow Irikaran's shoulders, and Nicolai's arms were almost wrapped around him. They were standing almost cheek to cheek, faces scarcely an inch apart.
Miashiu merely looked at him, and waited. A few breaths, at least, remained.

A few sputtered noises came from deep in his throat, the most his voice could struggle to put out with two blades in his chest. His feet wouldn't hold anymore. He slumped further forward, leaning entirely on Miashiu, further pressing the blades into his chest and stomach, gritting his teeth at the sting of new edges being slit into his wounds.
There was no real thought. Just a solid gold plaque in his mind printing "DUMBASS" across his face. An Irikaran slaughters you again, you moron of all morons, and you're standing here hugging the b*****d.
But even if he could have moved, the blades would have torn him open like teeth through a fresh kill. No action could be taken. Pain and weakness brought on by the volumes of blood he was surely losing inside and out, not to mention all the vicious holes the fangs caused, had him bracing himself against the very person who'd caused it.
Finally, his breath choked through just enough for a few words.
"I suppose..... you're not an ally, then."

"I am the end," Miashiu answered. "This was necessary, as all death is necessary, but... I regret the neccessity of killing you." He felt Nicolai's heartbeat vibrating down his longfang, beginning to slow, a little more each time it clenched on the whisper-sharp edge of the blade. "I would have liked to talk with you more. You would have made a fine ally."

Just then, a loud, piercing scream came from behind Miashiu, a stunned, pale, terrified, and shocked Jallai being the source. She was trembling all over and her hands had been brought to cup her cheeks in sheer disbelief.
"NO! NICOLAI!!!" she yelled, tears pouring down her face and slipping down her hands and arms. "Let him go!! Please!" she shouted, looking at Miashiu pathetically. She didn't know whom he was, nor did she care. She just didn't want Nicolai to die...he was her friend...
...her best friend in this whole damned world...

The crowding hum of unconsciousness threatened his vision. He felt himself chuckle- or was it a shiver?- at Miashiu's words, and with all the strength he had left he clenched his fist against Akorigarita. The life was leaving him and there was little time to salvage the Shadow Phoenix. Miashiu's hand could be the ultimate death of Arkiila.
There was, however, an escape.
"Maybe so," he whispered, unable to even breathe enough to make a voice for himself. "But un...fortunately......"
A light grew inside the darkest sanctum that was Nicolai's soul, where Arkiila resided. Bearing out to his back the flash carried into the wings that marked Arkiila's presence. They flapped once, and a shreik from the phoenix itself pierced the darkened air and echoed out into the desert. The light dimmed, taking with it the three strands that made Arkiila's presence known, and the golden rims that gave Nicolai's eyes light.
"... I'm one of those persistent enemies, and I make one hell of a pain in the a**."
This finished it. It had taken the very last of his strength, and the swelling darkness moved in to envelope his sight. His body went limp and the breath escaped him one last time as he fell into Miashiu's arms further. Death took him at last.

Miashiu bowed his head in resignation as he felt the Phoenix flee. Tenacious. That was well- he was looking forward to continuing their conversation.
Gently, tenderly, he knelt, allowing Nicolai to slide off of his blades, slowly laying him on the ground. He cleaned them against the sand in two cursory swipes, shook loose the sand, and sheathed them. With his right hand he reached forward and pressed down on the fallen Irikaran's eyelids, closing them.
Then he stood, and turned, to face the weeping girl. One of the arrows within him pointed directly at her, and he looked at her, face still blank, assessing. She was much closer to him, this one- but she was much less of a threat. He feared the conversation would be very short indeed.
"My greetings," he said to her- the words cordial but the voice, empty.

She let out another whimper, taking a few steps backwards and putting her hands down at her sides. "U-um...hello," she said quietly, sniffling a few more times. "Why did you kill Nicolai, mister...?" she asked, blinking back more tears. "Did he do something wrong?"
Another sniffle as she walked over to Nicky's body, knelt beside it and hugged it. "Nicky...you said you'd be here for me...you big fat liar..."

Miashiu blinked, a slow, deliberate moment of blindness.
"He was an admirable foe," he said, softly. "He was shadow and secret and mystery, as you are Earth and growth and vitality- as I am death and entropy and obliteration."
He took a step back. "It is proper to allow you your moment of grief, Yyestallanai. But then..." His hands fell to his sides, hovering over the sheathed blades. "Then you had best choose whether you will run... or whether you will fight."

At that moment Spooky and the being with her, stumbled upon the small party. Spooky still asleep, was clutched by the beast dragging her. It hadn't been alive for a long time and now it needed to feed.
There was nothing else across this widespread of land that it could find. Until now that is. It opened it's mouth and from it came a large piece of flesh between the strings of saliva hanging from the roof of it's mouth, wetting the empty places where it's eyes should have been. The beast smelt the trace of living beings, and decided they were fit to devour. The monster spread out his needle like claws, and it turned towards the smell lunging at it.

((Posting for Jallai, as her net is being utterly ghey.))
She stiffened at hearing that name. How could he possibly know it? Run or fight? At this moment, all she wanted to do was cry and cry and cry and cry. Sniffling again, she put her thumb to her chest (like a thumbs up sort of thing) and declared in a rather adult like voice (very unlike her normal self), "I am not Yyestallanai anymore...I am...Jallai." She paused, bringing herself to her full height, trying to look at least slightly intimidating. Pursing her lips together, she brought her hand out, a sort of green light appearing in the form of an axe.
A really, really big axe.
One that weighed, to be frank, at least a ton, if not more. It's handle was thick and sturdy, though the axe itself was what was really massive. It was made of what appeared to be pure silver with gold designs gilded into the solid redwood handle. On the blade of the axe were more engravings, also done in gold, though this one had the outline of the Irikaran circle on it, another symbol in the center. One that only she could associate with. A profile of a roaring lion. More specifically, the astrological sign, Leo.
At this point, however, she turned around and saw the beast...looking rather disturbed by it as she clutched her axe. With one hand.

At the sight of the thing, Miashiu's eyes widened, then narrowed, and his lips tightened- the closest thing to true emotion to thus far cross his face.
He drew his longfangs again with a snap, and moved like a silent wind until he stod just beside Jallai, well within the range of her weapon.
He addressed the nightmare beast in a cold voice. "None of this is yours to destroy," he told it, steel lacing through his tone. "I am the end-bringer, I am the devourer, and you will not usurp my prereogatives."

(-posting from local library-)
Jallai jumped when he was suddenly near her; he had moved so fast! Though, she figured that was going to be a problem now that she had decided to fight. I'm a moron... she thought, grimacing as she turned to prod Miashiu with the foot long steel spike that was on the tip of the handle of the axe. "Hey...Mia? What is that thing? And whaddidjoo mean by all that creepy end bringer stuff?"

The monster continued in his path changing direction just the slightest so it could attack both organisms. The parts on it's fingers that were of transluscent flesh started to form a liquid substance inside of them, the tips of the monsters nails oozed the same substance. It let out a growl from it's throat that changed into a high pitched scream. Each step it took the ground crumbled beneath it's steel hard hooves and rose to the surface once again dust. Finally it reached it's targets thrusting it's nails into the first thing it could reach.
It was strange but Spooky was still asleep during this whole ordeal. She could hear a slight ringing in her ears but that was all. Uncomfortable scales clothing the creatures tail dug into her skin, but she didn't mind. She had felt worse.

Miashiu danced forward and sideways, under the grotesque thing's reach, jabbing longfangs at its extended limb in rapid-fire succession, then skipped back, circling about the thing in tight geometric arcs. A moment later he was beside Jallai again, sheathing one longfang and pressing his free hand flat against her stomach, pushing her steadily away from the creatue while he kept his other blade up in a high guard position, waiting for the next attack. His expression remained serious, blank- tehre was no sign of worry or of strain on his features.
"Jallai," he said, voice still calm and flat, though he paused over the word as if tasting something strange. "You bear the Earth Phoenix, as... Nicolai bore the Shadow Phoenix. I bear nothing. I am Miashiu, and I am the end of all things; the Death-Serpent, the Terminal Phoenix. You must not allow this creature to slay you; that is my right and mine alone."
