Lesson in flirtation would probably have been a unique experience for both tutor and student. Daevyn simply couldn't fathom a use for it, could barely distinguish between a male and female. If he couldn't even truly understand the difference between himself and the mare, then how was he meant to grasp the concept of such a thing? Suffice to say, some might have been accurate if they had hazarded a guess and assumed he knew nothing of reproduction either. Truth be told, he hadn't a clue in relation to the subject and had never needed to, such subjects were never brought up because they were unnecessary in his former territory.

Ah, but to be the one to tell him!

Alas, her giggles did cause him to flatten his ears a little more in response. Unaware that she was a ticklish creature and therefore suseptible to this particular 'torture' device, he was of the assumption that she was chuckling at him. Either she was plotting something or found his entire situation to be highly entertaining. Now he knew she was toying with him, a fact he was most certain of when she placed her hoof against his ear to stop it from moving any further. Unsurprisingly, the hoof obeyed and lay still which served only to annoy him. One could only hope that in time he would realise that he was in control and that his ears could be used as a method of revenge.

Unfortunately today was not going to be the day when he experienced such a revelation and instead he was subject to a rising sensation of panic as she teased him again. What did she mean by testing? He knew it, she had definitely cast a spell on him! More than one spell, probably a hundred and he was doomed for disaster! Incapable of moving his ears any further back, the stallion found his body tensing and he shied away a little in a sign of agitation. He really didn't have an immediate response beyond this and gave a grunt, his most eloquent response so far to her taunt.

He had to ask himself again - why couldn't he squish her?

Incapable of telepathy, the stallion was at an impasse. Unable to take note that the mare was merely teasing him and had found comfort in his company (unusual in itself) he wasn't entirely sure how to proceed with this entire encounter. He wasn't terribly smart lipped, he'd never been well educated beyond battle and a keen sense of wit wasn't his thing. How was he meant to respond to this, how was he meant to deal with such a mare - she was an opponent he'd never faced before. He was both worried and intrigued...he'd never been forced to battle a fingertwitcher before.

Nevertheless, his musing were but his own and as the rain grew heavier even he had endured enough. With a slight bob of his head, he shifted his weight and moved away from the outer reaches of the apple orchard's canopy. Opting to head deeper in, he would find himself better sheltered and warmer for the time being. If heat was the only comfort he would receive for now then he was going to go and get it, maybe when the twitcher fell asleep, he'd manage to shoo her off.

...Maybe even squish her while her guard was down.

Yeah, that sounded like a reasonable strategy!

If only she knew what Daevyn was planning. Yet, she couldn't even start to pin point any marbled concept of violence, from what she had seen already, coming from him. Her mind was at ease, listening to thickening downpour of heavy droplets of rain. His body was shifting, she took to watching how he trudged through his home, to somewhere she wasn't quite sure existed with the blockage of his hair that hung over his face in a natural sway.

She wanted to talk but from her last torment that had only landed a sort-of groan of trouble to hum along his throat. She tried to huddle in to a position where she could poke out from the strands, at least the top of her head to see what world they were still in and the surroundings that she had first tumbled in to as a resting place changed only a little to more, fine carved tree trunks, covered in damp woven wrinkles over the time. It was like this whole assortment had been whisked out of no where and landed it's self here.

The reptile stallion was no different to the mysterious feeling in the pit of her stomach, even if he would feel the same about a 'fingertwitcher' accidentally forcing herself in to his life until the rain passed. Then she would flee, that saddened her if only the loneliness she would then endure once more going home tugged at her mind.

At last she spoke up. "Where are we going?" Curiosity had bested her but unlike his very cautious ears, hers were peaked up-right casually, doubtful that any harm would come to her, she was fond of him strangely, it had been an adorable accusation which had probably - almost caused her death until he was that struck with shock, or pity on her that he couldn't do it and still, he was kind with a good heart in the flutters opinion. He had to be. She found herself more inclined to linger on the answer as his calm stepping continued in the muddy, water-logged terrain offering the squishing sound coming with every hoof that plunged in to it.

Where were they going?

Well he was seeking out shelter from the rain, he didn't know about her.

He refrained from replying for a while and instead he focused on moving further into the orchard. His hooves thumped dully against the soils and now and each time he raised them they gave a squelch. A horror story for any vain creature but Daevyn was not against such conditions, the weather had a way of altering the landscape and to spurn the changes was foolish. Admittedly he was cold and uncomfortable due to his continue exposure to the rain earlier but this would be easily dealt with - in fact, it was being dealt with.

The borders of the orchard were fabulous for training, the trees were more sporadically positioned so that he could weave back and forth between them. The ground was more exposed and thus hardened from both exposure and constant use by passing creatures. All in all, the area on the outskirts of his little home was significantly better for him to train on than the interior. The only problem with the outskirts was that their vast openess meant that any who used this particular location would be exposed too. Fine for short spurts, not so good for prolonged conversations (or torture as the case might be).

...Or perhaps it was an ideal torture spot?

Nevertheless the orange male pressed onwards and ducked his head now and again to dodge low lying tree branches. Incapable of seeing between his ears, her interest was lost on him and probably would be until such times as she was in his line of sight again. Should he answer her? It was a predicament to be sure for there was a good chance that the mare might curse him while he slumbered or worse still, place magical spells upon his home to wreck havoc even when she left!

He opted to answer.

"Home," he replied simply, his flanks quivering ever so slightly as the temperature increased. The canopy and thick trunks now shielded him from the worst of the weather, the winds and rain lessening considerably with each passing step.

It had been a calculated risk, but the stallion was of the impression that the mare would be lulled into a false sense of security and when she fell asleep he would dispatch of her. After that, he would visit a proper shaman and have her spirit exorcised immediately - it was the safest option with minimal opportunity for anymore voodoo. Simple, at least in theory...
PostPosted: Thu Dec 30, 2010 3:38 am

After his answer, Illumise decided not to speak, she just watched as the scenery changed, felt the temperature warm as shivers ran through her body and thrilled her wings in to quick, unexpected beats leaving a trail of blue orbs that fled back in to his hair then faded like temporary glow-bugs. She lowered her head so the flat under her head were against his forehead, hung over one of her front legs comfortably. It was warm, so warm she thought she would fall asleep - was falling asleep.

In the tiredness she tried to keep her eyes open, every time she managed to widen them, her lids lowered again and she fluttered them open with a small, jump to her body each time until she decided to stop fighting it. Everything had been straining and maybe, she might not have done as much as he had such as training but even the accusations and trying to get him to open up to her ever so slightly had been enough work. The fact now she felt like she was bothering him and even annoying him with her talking and constant questions just added to the fact, falling asleep would give them both some form of mental rest and could possibly allow him to calm down.

With the hopes that he wouldn't just toss her aside in her sleep, she started to doze off, using him as her wandering pillow until they got to wherever his main 'home' was.

Silence was golden and was certainly something that this particular stallion enjoyed. As the mare (wisely) opted to hold her silence, he continued on, his mood lifting considerably with each passing step. As the temperature increased and the canopy thickened, he drifted deeper and deeper into his own musings - one would have gone so far as to assume he was 'lost' to the outside world. This had it's advantages for the now slumbering flutter mare; she was soon 'forgotten' in favour of his own immediate thoughts and as a consequence there would be no further concerns for her safety.

...Granted, these assurances couldn't be given when she next spoke, but for the time being the stallion had no intention of abandonning the unfortunate flutter in the middle of nowhere. She held little substance, placed no pressure on his head and as a result it he would have been hardpressed to detect her. Provided she didn't move at all in her sleep she would remain unnoticed and the calm she sought to instill in the stallion would remain.

All issues cast to the wayside, Daevyn made quick work of the undergrowth that lay between himself and his little abode. Within approximately ten minutes he had breached the line of trees and was happily ensconced in his 'house'. It was merely a circle of thick tree trunks, the ground beneath shielded by heavily intertwined canopies. Aside from the warmth there would be little to note about the location - it had definitely been chosen for it's benefits rather than for its beauty.

A yawn.

Then another.

It wasn't long before Daevyn joined the little creature in slumber, his flank giving another mighty shudder as it savoured the warmth - the subtle patter of rain lulling him into a light doze.

When Illumise awoke, the first thing she could make out in the blur of vision sleep had brought were thick tree trunks surrounding them. She figured this must have been his home and she must have fallen asleep, but for how long? She let out a light yawn before lowering her gaze to the stallion. She climbed back on to her feet stretching out a litttle before beating her wings gently. She flew from within his damp mane and avoided the large clumps of hair then directed herself to the side of his leg, landing on the ground, she peered up to see that he had also fallen asleep. A small smile crept on to her lips as she moved a short distance away from him, then let herself resize. She didn't want to interupt him and she wondered if by reverting back to normal size she would wake him; she hoped not, he looked so peaceful in his doze.

At full size she stretched out more, now that the patter of rain was shielding out by the enclosed space of his home. There was no threat now... Other than spooking the poor stallion more now she wasn't so tiny. She tried to quietly move about to study it a little closely intrigued she had never seen a place like this before. He was so out of the way and alone here. He was a man of silence, she worked that much out but to live alone, out here? Did he really like to be alone? She started to think about it. Even though she was alone most of the time, she had the echoes of two-leggers voices just around the trees and children running around. Companions barking, hoof beats and even that felt empty.

She returned to his side and lowered to a lay, she would just remain quiet and let him sleep after the travel here. She didn't mind waiting, it was relaxing and she wasn't having to worry about his reaction for the time being.

He was awake and had been for quite some time - granted he wasn't completely coherent, drifting in and out of consciousness as he often did at first light. He had grown out of rising immediately when the first light touched his eyes and had developed just a hint of laziness in that respect. He preferred to wait until dawn was in full swing with more than one strand of light breaching the canopy above his head. It was better this way and no longer at odds with his former herds, the necessity to wake up immediately was no longer there.

...Or rather it wasn't normally there.

As dawn broke and the clouded shapes around him began to take form he couldn't quite shake the feeling that he had forgotten something. That something was 'crucial', a memory he really shouldn't have forgotten. It was going to be one of those days, he could sense it, that little niggle wouldn't go away and it would be another week before he finally figured out what it was. At which point, when the realisation hit, he would shout obscenities at the sky and complete his task far later than he had previously intended.

Daevyn released a snort at this thought, lifting his head abruptly and giving it a quick shake in the hope that he might be able to account for whatever it was he had forgotten. It wasn't his work out, he'd done that...it wasn't his breakfast, it was too early for that so what was it? His head tilted stubbornly to the side as he delved into his memories casting his gaze from left to right for some form of inspiration - hell, maybe a raccoon would jump out and yell the answer at him.

He didn't get a raccoon - but he did get his answer.

No sooner had he begun his search for inspiration than his gaze landed on the mare and it all came crashing back to reality. He let out one of the more undignified shrieks of his life as he leapt to his hooves, skittering away from the mare who was now significantly bigger than he had previously recalled. Oh by the gods it was the fingertwitcher! The one who had bewitched him previously and now she was here, beside him and he had nearly forgotten about her.

He gasped.

She'd been trying to wipe his memories!

The distinctive green eyes narrowed as he regarded the now full sized mare with suspicion. Sure she was petite in comparison to most soquili he had observed but he'd seen her at work, small or not, she was already kicking his butt. This wasn't even a fair fight, he'd never been taught how to defend against a fingertwitcher.

He needed a priest. Weren't priests good at this thought of thing.

He made a mental note to locate a priest.

Illumise was resting peacefully next to the Reptillian like stallion, eyes closed, just the wavering of the leaves and branches tickling her ears that enclosed around them. She grew fond of this silence, it was comfortable, relaxing and in return she had also forgotten what adventure was still awaiting. now that she had been able to revert back to her full size there wasn't much of a need to hide out in his mane no matter how much of a nice temporary bed it had been.

Light was on it's way as the blacks of her lids were blinded by white, she slowly opened them, letting them adjust to the new rays, eating away at the dull grey that had eaten the skies of yesterday. She gave a soft sigh, finally being able to fully open them when a sudden shriek caused the mare to jump almost literally from her skin! She made a sound of fright, edging her head back, eyes franticallt searching for the source when they landed on the familiar stallion.

She had managed to freak him out again!

Eyes wide, they re-focused in a new light that she would be able to calm. That had been the reaction she had been biding time for. She let out a chuckle at his abrupt antics, a smile gradually building upon her lips.

"Good morning!" She greeted happily, deciding his reaction would be better left unspoken for. "Did you sleep well?"

Perhaps he wasn't expecting her to still be here when he awoke? If there was any objections sure enough he would lead her towards an exit of some sort however it wouldn't of felt right leaving without saying goodbye and it wasn't even certain he would shoo her away yet.

she slowly climbed back to her feet, shaking to relieve terrain that had clung to her coat, nipping off a spare leaf here and there. Acting as if everything was normal. Had been normal...

Did he sleep well?

He opened his mouth to retort and then quickly shut it again. It was a moment when the stallion actually paused for thought and gave the question some consideration. If the reptillian male was to be honest with the world he had slept well, there was definitely no disputing the fact that he'd slept like a log. The minutes passed as the male mulled this over and then he conceded that he couldn't really respond with an untruth in relation to this query. It was at this point that most normal soquili would have reverted to sarcasm or some form of a drawl but Daevyn lacked the mental prowess for that.

An intelligent strategist he certainly was.

A quick witted scholar, he definitely wasn't.

"Yes, I did," he conceded at last. Despite his groggy demeanour his voice didn't croak as he wasn't one to suffer from any form of hoarseness when he woke. All things considered, it was rather ironic, he was sure that the world's most avid socialities would revel in such a talent but on a personal level he had no use for it.

Nevertheless the flutter could be thankful for small favours as the stallion was simply too bleary eyed to act with immediate hostility. Suspicion was one thing, driving her out was an entirely different matter. He was suitably out of practice when it came to such things, a year ago he would have been awake and his foe dead within seconds...now he merely stared! A tiny part of him couldn't help questioning whether or not this was a good thing, one day he may live to regret that.

...Maybe today was that day.

"You weren't that size yesterday," he stated in a rather blunt observation. Not the best conversation starter in the world, but at least he wasn't screaming bloody murder and chasing her out of his home!
PostPosted: Fri Apr 15, 2011 4:18 am

Illumise lifted her head once more, finally being able to shake the last leaf from the golden sash that hung low around her neck. She stared back at him some as he continued to eye her. What was going through his mind was certainly lost to the oblivious mare. When his question finally sunk in, her eyes widened at the fact he had confrunted her however his observation was right and it was a straight forward matter. Her face fell in to a petite smile, as she nodded slowly.

"Oh yes! I'm sorry, it is a lot more sheltered here than it was back where we met. So I thought I'd return to this size. I hope you don't mind?" She tilted her head, inside pleading that he wouldn't;peering beyond a loose strand that had fallen from the usually neat set of curls, they were more wild from being waterlogged but nothing a refreshing head dunk in a nearby river couldn't cure.

"I'm glad you slept well. I fell asleep in your mane-" She was embarrassed to admit it and had bit her tongue quickly in shock of actually letting it tumble out without thought. A flurry of violet welcomed it'self to the mare's cheeks, she could feel the heat rise but tried to not let it affect her nerves as well.

"When I woke up." She quickly carried on, looking to the side and letting her blue orbs scan the home around them some more. His home. "We were here and you had fallen asleep. It must have been a long trip and I didn't want to disturb you. I guess this must be your home?" She smiled more pleasantly at him, letting her gaze fall smoothly back on the bright coloured stallion and his spiky mane which was hard to believe she had made a bed of it not so long ago. It had only felt like seconds but it had been hours now.

"It's very cosy."
She chuckled. "Your home, I mean."

Did he mind? Did he MIND? Of course he bloody well minded, he had a witch in his home who had slept on top of his head and had probably entered his dreams. For all the raptor male knew, she had read his throughts, knew of his aspirations and was planning to terrorise him in some for. Argh, this was the worst thing that could possibly have happened to him - what if he had become her puppet in his sleep? It was a fate worse than death, yes, to the stallion there was something worse than the end of his life.

Nevertheless he maintained his composure and save for the widening of his eyes, he gave no indication of his impending horror. He could be given credit in relation to this response, mere minutes ago he would have got ballistic but he appeared to have reined in his temper (or at least his emotions). Whether he cared to admit it or not, the stallion was still bred and raised as a gladiator and as such, he couldn't afford to show anymore weaknesses than he already had.

Clearly, laziness was no longer an option.

"No," he said finally, his lower jaw jutting out just a touch as he continued to rein in his emotions. "No, I don't mind," he reiterated at last, having gained clarity that he wasn't going to lose his composure as he spoke. Evidently the orange stallion had come to some sort of agreement with his own mind and that was that if he showed any form of weakness, it might give the mare more opportunity to torture him - he wasn't going to let the fingertwitcher get the upper hand again!

He paused briefly, pursed his lips and regarded the mare as she attempted to make further small talk with him. It was in those moments that he did take note of her own discomfort and embarassment, though perhaps her embarassment was for very different reasons than his own? Regardless, the true reason for her reaction would be lost on him in relation to that sort of thing - after all he'd never been subject to it before.

"It suits me well," he said finally. "Sheltered from strong winds and good resources, but defences are lacking," he explained gruffily.
PostPosted: Thu May 05, 2011 6:00 am

Illumise waited for a response however from the looks of things, Daevyn was still trying to come to grips with her presence amongst his home. She couldn't quite put her hoof on it but perhaps he really did believe she was still a fingertwitcher - or so, he liked her to call her such. Her eyes tried to find some light within his eyes to give her an answer but it was hopeless, there were resistence to any form of answer within them. His body language was the best hope she had.

At last, he gave a no. Which at least let the mare could sigh softly in relief, even if it wasn't trully what he was thinking, she would accept the answer and go a long with it. She mustn't have been that much of a bother if he was still acting out of politeness, or possibly, fearing for his well being due to the circumstance. "T-that's good." Her smile thinned out weakly, eyes falling to the floor where she slowly scraped at the terrain with one of her front hooves, taking the intense studying away from his eyes.

'Lacking in defence... I wonder if that means me?' She thought inwardly, biting her bottom lip very loosely. Of course it was her, she had managed to sneak past him and nibble not even a quater of an apple before he came a long and confrunted her about trespassing. It was a miracle that she was even still alive, he had every bit of power to crush her but, he didn't.

"Is there a stream near by?"
She looked up briefly back to his gaze, noting the light air of tension. She really did need a refreshing dunk in the river but she soon thought that he may not want to reveal the location of it for the fact, why would he want someone bathing in the source where he clenched his thirst.

She fumbled a lopsided frown at this thought, then shook her head gently. "We could both use a rinse, I think." She observed, patches of the dirt were still clung and dried stiff amongst his legs. Where ever he had gotten all that mess from... She wondered if he had been rolling in the mud but he didn't really come across as the type to play around in the rain in his spare time.

The lack of defence hadn't pertained to the mare, but had he know it had affected her own mindset in this manner then he probably would have implied that it was a reference to her. Instead, his observations had been in relation to the fact that the land was so flat - there were no immediate vantage points, no blind spots and very few obstacles that could be placed between himself and an aggressor. All things considered, this particular spot of land was not the best location for any individual who was worried that an assailant might track him down and slaughter him.

Alas, Daevyn could be thankful for small favours in this respect, when he had bested his opponents in the arena he had earned his 'freedom'. He hadn't received much in this respect, all that he had were the trophies that he wore and the knowledge that he wouldn't (or shouldn't) be attacked by one of his former herd again. What he had been promised in other respects hadn't come; the chance to be reunited with his parents had been spurned and he had never been permitted to return home. Suffice to say, the stallion had gained his freedom and lost a total of two families so far... The first as a foal when he had been born male, and the second when he had managed to successfully leave the herd.

He didn't resent the gladiators in this respect, even they didn't know the truth. If they had known that a freed gladiator was turned away by their birth parents upon return, then perhaps things would have been done differently. Nevertheless, freedom was a novelty to him and one he had embraced rather willingly once he had grown used to the isolation and the silent. With no one posing any immediate risk to him he allowed himself small favours, hobbies and games - unusual, but he enjoyed it.

Or he had until the fingertwitcher arrived!

He heaved a sigh at her query, disregarding her observations at the condition of his coat. While others would have taken her remarks as an insult, he accepted them as a simple statement of fact. He was indeed covered in mud, he had been covered in significantly worse and as a result he didn't find it of immediate concern. However, she clearly placed quite high regard in her own physical appearance and while he had never been able to see a reason for this (no one in the gladiatorial herds could) he wasn't going to be completely unhospitable.

"This way," he said and motioned with a bob of his head to behind him. He held his piece from this point and drifted off through the trees towards the river. It wasn't a big one by any means, but it was of a reasonable size and she could give herself a rinse if she desired it. Her concern for whether or not he would drink from it were unfounded as he was a survivalist - mud was mud, it showed up everywhere including in the food he ate... it wasn't going to make much of a difference if it was in what he drank too!

Illumise was delighted that there was a source of water nearby, she felt terribly revolted by the stickiness of her coat and the dry, stringy hair that encased her cheeks. She wasn't a vain creature but she did like to feel a sense of pride in herself and feeling as bad as she looked, lacking a cleanse meant her mood would take a dive for the deep end at this rate. Her parents would always tell them to take a dip when they had been playing and her mother would smother her until every inch was squeaky clean and spotless perhaps that is why she felt this way. It had been drilled in to have some sense of presentation.

Daevyn however didn't seemed to be bothered by the dry, clinging patches of dirt. She wondered if it irritated him or if he was used to living in these conditions till it suited him to clench his thirst or thrived for water to cool down. She could certainly see how the area would end up a swampy mass, on the way here with the squeching ( As soothing as it was ) it was obvious the rain just made it in to one giant land of muddy quicksand. Regardless, she didn't mind so long as she cleaned off soon and didn't hesitate to follow after him at his guidance towards the river. How did he get here? To be in such a place, really? She supposed it was like asking her the same thing. She had ended up in her cave by the village travelling, the voices meant company was only a stroll away but he didn't mind solitude. His silence reflected that, as well as his skills to comprehend the outer world and... Sociability.

Still, she found herself drawn to the reptillian soquili. Eyes lighting up and ears perked high on sounds of rushing water crashing against rocks she sighed in relief, maw spreading out in a warm, soft smile at the thought of feeling refreshed. Leafless and washed of all mud. Perhaps those tiny twigs would even dislodge from poking her in the skull. "How about I help you with any daily errands or routines you need to go about?" She chirped, casting the back of his head a glance as it bobbed up and down in his walk. "If you have any routines.." She added, he might not do so much. She couldn't help but feel as if she had put him out of his way to take her here. She was thankful and would even state as much once they got there.

Helping him or doing something was the least she could do for him considering he provided her with shelter and a comfy bedding of mane. A ride to his home. Thinking about it he had shown her great hospitality without even realising as much. She felt rather spoiled by all of it in all honesty. His kindness, even with the time it took to get used to what she specifically was, had been consistent. Guess he was just one of those soquili you really needed to get to know first.. She could already tell that was going to be one hell of a quest.
