I think if he got rid of avatars this site would die faster than the Titanic sank. I'm also not entirely convinced that he will try to warp the site to be more like facebook but I do think that he will bring enough attributes from facebook that will link the two sites together very closely.
This makes me nervous. You don't think he would make it a "pay to play site do you?
As of right now this is my biggest worry. Lanzer is still on the board and he promised never to let the site turn into a "pay to play" website. I can only hope that he throws a b***h fit when it is proposed at a meeting.
To answer your question more directly I'm not sure but I really hope not.
This is also a huge concern of mine. I doubt it'll ever be 100% pay to play, but it has the possibility to get to the point that you'll pretty much have to give them money to do/get anything interesting. That's only speculation, and as of this writing there is no evidence to support that. So don't panic now. There's plenty of time to panic later.
But if they ever got rid of the gold based economic system, I don't know what there would be here to keep me so addicted. So I hope they don't.
Honestly, I expect that things are going to go on the way they have been doing for awhile before anything changes. If anything changes.
