Without Vega noticing in order to protect his pride, Cheshire had already set up mental perimeter of illusionary trees that would be too closely placed together for a rabbit to think that it can escape.
Luckily, they weren't needed. The noise of Vega falling into the hole did in fact startle the rabbit, but not to the point of bolting. It merely had looked around and sniffed the air, deciding there was no threat around. What do you know, Cheshire wasn't quite as bat-s**t insane as most think he is when teaching them stealth.
When the rabbit didn't bolt, Cheshire calmed down and settled onto a small log not far away, that way he can react to the situation immediately.

Vega was sure..if he'd caught chesh snickering, he would have blushed himself silly and stormed out of there like some embarrassed doe! If the bunny had bolted he'd have ******** it all and chased the damn thing down for humiliating him without even trying! If he'd broken his leg! Well..if he'd broken it by stepping in the hole as clumsily he had..he was quite sure that would have been the end of the little hunting session. Thankfully none of these things happened on this amazingly thankful day, and was vega glad for it.
Letting out an empty silent sigh, vega wiggled his leg in the hole slightly, twisting it gently and tugging himself free..quite glad that there was no pain or..or the sound of snapping bones to accompany his delicate movements. Carefully re-balancing his weight as he steadied himself once more on all fours. He wondered if maybe he should have left his leg in the whole, after all it did do a good job of blocking the rabbits final escape path? He decided instead push a bit of dirt into it, shoving some leaves and grass carefully and quietly over the hole.
His eyes on the rabbit as it quietly settled back into eating, grin sharp as he stayed low to the ground and crept..closer..quietly closer..belly nearly scraping the earth before he'd finally had enough and decided to pounce!
