She giggled and blushed, just a little. "Thanks, I don't like to cause trouble, but sometimes it just finds you. It's good to know I have someone to fall back on besides my brother. He must be pretty busy with his bronze." Optheli found just the right spot to itch to cause Dynith to croon.
"Yeah. I was so happy for him. I knew he liked trading and his spices and all..... but, there is just something about being a dragonrider. Now he'll be able to go all over to get all the spices he wants." She seemed to find that very amusing. "Say V'al? How rare is Stand Impressions? Cause I mean there was like four wasn't there? I always thought the dragons picked from the kids on the Sands."

Busy or not, in V’al’s mind, her seemingly adored brother should be able to find time to help kin even with a growing dragon demanding much of his time. He didn’t know whether to judge the unmet brother poorly, or think Optheli was just too kind to be demanding. Family was a vexing thing. He wouldn’t miss his here at least.
“I’d never been to a Hatching before until the one we met our dragons at. I think they’re normally pretty rare, but maybe the double Hatching raised the odds? I’m not sure though. Coming from the Leatherworking craft at a Hold, I hardly feel like I know the basics about dragons, even with the lessons they’ve been heaping on us.”
We will have no trouble, Lerath answered with confidence, withdrawing his head from V’al’s half hearted scratching. Untroubled about the future, the blue made the announcement that he wished to sun, and started out toward the ledge.

"Hu, I suppose you're right. Don't really hear too many stories about it." She smiled, "but I'm glad they happened. Sometimes I wonder how I ever went around without Dynith at the back of my legs." A hand pets the green head in her lap. "It could be the double Hatching was involved. I guess we'll never know, will we?"
With that settled Optheli looked around. They'd gotten off to a good start, she thought. Now she needed something to keep it going. With a start, she watched the blue get up and head to the ledge. "Dynith do you want to go out too?"
The little green lifted her head to watch the retreating blue. Her eyes whirl anxiously between blue and yellow. 'No Mine. I am happy here.' Her head returned to the young girl's lap with a contented sigh.

“I guess not.” V’al pushed a hand through his hair and glanced out after Lerath, feeling more comfortable in the silence than his roommate seemed to be. How long was the dragon going to sleep out there though? V’al sighed and turned back to watch Dynith laying her head into Optheli’s lap.
“At least those Benden fools are gone now,” he said, seemingly out of nowhere. He flopped back onto his bed, feet still planted on the floor. “Hopefully, if they make a menace of themselves again our dragons will be grown by them.”

Optheli relaxes as the moment persists. It seemed sometimes silence was golden. Her eyes half close as she listened to Dynith crooning soft and happy. Her thoughts turn inward as she muses. Just what is it about Impression? What makes the difference between Sands and Stands? It'd be something I'd like to explore given the time.
The sound of her roommate's voice gives her a start after the silence. "Yeah, you must have had more contact with them than we did. Were they really as nosy as I heard?" She looked at him curious. "Do you think they won't bother us if our dragons are bigger?" Optheli really didn't see that being the case.

“People wouldn’t have been made enough to kick them out of the whole weyr if they hadn’t been a real pest,” he said darkly, but saved his glowering for the ceiling. “And, no, ours wouldn’t have stopped them. But if Lerath were up to size I could do something besides gossip.” His foot tapped the floor a few times and crossed his arms behind his neck, which propped his head up enough to look around the room. “I’d rather solve a problem than stand in it and wait for it to worsen.”

"Well they're gone now, and out of our hair." She nodded. That was the end of the subject as far as she was concerned. They were gone, and none of them could do anything about it now. Optheli gave a soft sigh. "Yeah, that's a lot better then letting it get worse, but sometimes it's hard to do and might hurt."

“Pain’s a thing to be endured,” V’al said stoutly. That was one of his mother’s sayings, and even if he thought she were a tunnel snake of a woman she’d been right about that. “I think what might be more important is keeping an eye on those Northern Weyrs, but,” he rolled over onto his side with a grunt, “we’ll see.”
