Maji looked up at Jenner. "Hmm? Well, I guess you could say that. First experience, well, second technically, with a kid for more than a single day. It's a learning process, you could say." She laughed softly. "Now I understand why I was a single child. Nexen and Laial get along terribly."
Nexen was still staring at Arith.

Arith blinked."Kow?I no know wat dat iz but I a huzzgy.Wat you?"He looked the boy over before noticing he was being watched.With a twitch of his nose he turned his head to look at Nexen, smiling at her as he raised a hand in greeting."Hewwo."

Laial grinned, happy to know something someone else didn't. "A kow ez a...a..." What had Maji said? "...a bla' 'n' whi' 'nemal. Yu's bla' 'n' whi'." What had the huzzy said? "I'm a nauless."
Nexen crawled out of Maji's arms and crawled down her. She wanted to greet this huzzy. Now, what was a greeting again? "Gu-gu'en 'ag." she clumsily spoke.

Breaking from her mother's side, Indigo toddled over to where Laial and Arith were standing. "Not a snail?" she inquired of the shelled boy, eyes round with wonder. "A...nau'less? Whazzat?" She paused, tilting her head to one side and peering at his pretty shell. It was orange! Almost as good as red. "You sure you're not a snail?"
Jenner watched her child wander away, a distracted expression on her face, before she glanced back at Maji. "They'll sort themselves out," she said, cheerily. "It's a pecking order sorta thing. If they don't figure it out now, they're never gonna get along." Boy, that was reassuring. Trust a demon.

Arith looked upwards a bit in thought."A bak an' whide aminaw?Den dat mean all bak an' whide animaws kowz?"He still wasn't quite sure what a cow was, but as the boy spoke again the thought drifted away."A noggylezz?Waddat?"He looked over at Mia, who blinked, apparently not knowing either.He frowned a bit, but smiled again when he saw the little fox crawling down Maji and spoke."Huh?"Confusion spread across his face as he tried to figure out what the fox girl had just said.

Laial grinned at Indigo. He then spoke to both the dog and bug, "A Nau'less ez li' a squeed an' a smail mixed toge'e."
Maji looked at her watch. "Come on, Nexen and Laial, it's bed time." She picked them up.

"A sqweed?"Yet another word he didn't know.Arith was about to question further when the boy was picked up, along with the little fox girl."You go' go?"His ears drooped a bit.As if just noticing her Arith looked at Indigo."Whoa, you a big bug."His mouth fell open a bit as he walked around her.

Orpheus looked as a new boy came in for a short while with a couple of people, a nautilus boy? Quite amazing look that child was. He would look forward to seeing what he could do in class he thought, a shame he hadn't made it to the first swimming class but maybe he could come to the next one?
Ligeia looked at the little that seemed to have wanted to touch his wings, hesitated for a long moment before he flapped them and opened them up so that they were within reach. He supposed it wouldn't hurt to let her touch them right? He was sure it would be fine.
"Well now. I'm sure we can sneak into the cafeteria and snag some food and drinks for the little ones to indulge in while they talk and play." Orpheus said, mostly to the parents to see if he could gather one or two to come with him to do that and leave another to watch the little ones here.

"A squid AN' a snail?" If Indigo's eyes could've gotten wider, they would have at that. "Whoa!"
Her expression fell, though, as Maji declared it was time for her and Laial to leave. She raised an upper hand to give a forlorn little wave--he was so neat! And she didn't even get a chance to touch his pretty shell. "Bye Laial," she added a moment later.
She quickly forgot her disappointment, though, as Arith began looking at her. "Squids live in the sea! They have lots an' lots of legs." She turned to follow the dog boy, antennae twitch-twitching as she did. "M'not a bug, either! 'M onai--onee--ony--..." Screwing up her face in the very picture of concentration, she tried to remember the difficult word. Nothing occured to her.
Jenner, meanwhile, just smiled indulgently. She glanced away as Orpheus spoke up, then raised her hand--and laughed, before putting it down. "Am I s'posed to raise my hand, sai? It's been forever since I've been in a classroom. Anyhow--I'd be happy t' come with you, give the little ones a chance t'socialize an' all that."
"Ony--'m a velvet worm!" Indigo declared at last, proudly, and puffed out her chest. "Not a bug at all!"

Orpheus almost laughed over the woman raising her hand, then shook his head, "No, no. You need not raise your hand. My classes are rather relaxed." He said, well rules wise. He didn't see a point in lots of yelling and raising of hands and such.
"I have my vollenteer then to help fetch the food and drinks for the little one, everyone else alright with waiting here and behaving?"
Ligeia looked over at his father and tilted his head to the side, "Screee?"
"Yep. You can wait here and get to know some of the other students. Best you make some friends." He told the owl boy who nodded, he supposed that he could do that. After all the ones he was talking to weren't that bad. He then turned to look at Indigo, curious and wanting to ask her what a 'velvet worm' did. She made them sound quite important so they must do something interesting right?

Mia watched as one of the other parents volunteered to help with drinks and stuff.She wasn't sure if she was needed to stay here, but also wasn't sure if she wanted to be alone with so many little kids."Uhh, I guess i'll stay here, unless my help is needed."
Arith cocked his head to the side as the girl said she was a velvet worm."Vewvert worm?Like dem worms dat are inna groun'?Dose funny."

Velvet worms were very important.
Satisfied as to Indigo's disposition, Jenner offered here daughter a finger-wiggling wave, before turning to Orpheus with a grin. "Oh. Well. Don't figure I'd do too well in a 'traditional classroom setting' anyhow." She ambled in the general direction of the door with that said, holding it open for the man more by habit than by manners.
Indigo, meanwhile, put her upper hands to her mouth and giggled at Arith's display of counting. "Lots'n lots of legs!" she agreed. It did make perfect sense! "An' they catch fishees with their legs! An' eat 'em!" She clasped her hands together before her now, both upper and lower, pale eyes large with excitement.
"Uh-uh!" She shook her head rapidly, strands of hair oozing loose of the buns on her head. "Velvet worms live on TOP of the ground. We have legs!" She pointed with one hand at her tail and the pseudopods thereon in demonstration. "Squiggly ol' earthworms don't got legs; that's why they crawl everywhere."

"Sqweeds ea' fizzies?And dey ca'ch 'em?"Arith held a hand out and made a grabbing motion as if to catch something."Are fizzies fast?"He shot his hands out as if catching something then brought the unseen 'fish' to his mouth."Arrmph, eata fizzy."His ears twitched happily and his tail wagged behind him.
"Dey live toppa groun'?Mommy towd me earfworms eat dirt, do vewvert wormz eat dirt?"Arith bent down and picked up a bit of dirt, sniffing it curiously.

Orpheus gave his thanks and headed off with Jenner to fetch drinks and snacks for the younger kids, the cafeteria wasn't far away luckily so they wouldn't have to carry everything that they snatched that far.
Ligeia listened, wided eyed and in awe, to the Velvet worms words. She did make it sound quite important and his eyes got wider and wider. If that was what they did then what was it that owls did? They must do something important too right? He hoped.
Well maybe not, important meant people listening to your words and crowding you, asking questions and he had a hard time with all of that. Maybe he would preferr to stay quiet and hiding in the background? At least until he got a better grasp of his language skills.

Even at a young age, Indigo couldn't help having inherited a bit of showmanship from her adopted mother. Having two pairs of eyes on her as she explained her unique origins was quite a treat, and she did everything she could to make the retelling interesting.
Of course, this didn't keep her from giggling at Arith, once more bringing both top hands to her mouth. "Fishies are very fast, but squids are faster! That's why they eat fishies." She looked over at Ligeia, then back at Arith, and drew herself up to her small height.
"Nuh-uh! We eat crickets an' leaves an' fruit. We spit glue to catch 'em 'fore they can get away!" Her antennae twitched with the force of her excitement, tiny chest puffed out proudly.
