"You had better be," Calandra said softly, before turning her head to nudge Indeygo and give him a quick lick. Both of them had their own reasons for her to worry over them, but hopefully, together, they would balance out some of those problems.
"All right, go before make me want to go with you. YMCA is hospitable, or so I've heard. You can stay at least a night there, looking for clues. A year is a long time; don't rush through everything!"
"We won't." She heard Evadne promise and then her daughter stepped away, prompting her son to hesitantly do the same.
"I love you. Don't get into trouble! Avoid lones if you can help it. Not all of them are as nice as you think they are," she warned, knowing that inside Evadne was rolling her eyes. Foolishness of youth.

"We will, right, Indy?" Evadne said, looking at her brother for support. "We'll see you soon, Mom."
She wanted to remind her not to worry, but Mom would worry whether she asked her not to or not. So instead she kept her mouth shut and nudge Indy.
"Come on."
She turned and took off at a dead run before anyone could change their minds, leaving Indy to catch up. She knew he would, because he was fast enough to match her, but it would take him a second of scrambling first. Her tongue lolled out in a silent laugh at the thought, before she retracted it, thinking better of leaving such an opening for bugs. See? She was thinking already.
