What about limiting people to only 1 quest waiting to get stamped at any given time? It would cut down on wait time, and encourage people to really focus on the character they're submitting. (I'm not saying only one quest at a time, just only one asking to get stamped at that time?)

The limit of "one stamp at a time" was actually already in play -- an initiative from our hard-working stampers who were trying their best to be fair and productive in the face of an overwhelming and unrealistically large workload!

Just as a general FYI as to why NotM had the stamping system in place that it did, what had happened was that, as I understand it, early on there were some difficulties where people commissioned character art, received it, and then were stymied to find that they couldn't play their character because the profile wasn't up to scratch in some places.

In some cases, this just meant a frustrating delay for players who had to fix some things before they could play. In other cases, the character profile required more extensive work, and players felt upset that they'd paid for a character and it turned out they couldn't play the concept that they'd planned. That's understandable, and I'd feel upset too -- unexpected changes, we all know, hurt.

The proactive quest-and-stamping system was meant to alleviate that to some extent, though not fully. Obviously with the sheer volume of quests out there, it wasn't possible for our stampers to keep up with the constantly growing demand, though I absolutely have to commend them -- they worked hard, they did their level best, and they suggested and implemented changes to the system to try and make things work even better.

At this point I would agree that stamping before acquisition has become unfeasible -- that being the case, my personal recommendation is that, going forward, it should probably be stated somewhere highly visible that this is a roleplaying environment with character regulation, and that buying a character is no gaurantee that they'll be able to play the character they have in mind if it isn't compatible with the roleplay environment.

I'm sorry I haven't popped in! My only excuse is that I was playing Harvest Moon all day yesterday.

-cough-

On the topic of stamps!

I think a revamp of the system will be for the best. That doesn't mean character approval will go out the window, because this is a place of heavy RP importance and being able to play within the shop canon reasonably is vital to keeping this place sane.

My thoughts have been...

We keep a section of the guild to quests. There will still be critting options (and staff will pop in to offer help and make sure characters are at least feasible in the world. So no one can play a Velociraptor. Sorry.), and perhaps some very small incentive for people to help each other out with crits or something, if it proves to be needed and no one wants to crit anymore ( XD ), but the approval of quests will no longer be necessary. It's like eliminating the middle man. Because acquired characters had the priority in the old system, anyway, we'll just shift the focus to that.

The only things that will need a stamp would be acquired characters, for final approval before RPing within the shop.

Since most characters will be coming from events and customs, with more focus on Gaia-based acquisitions of the like, it seems like a natural progression to shift the focus from stamping quests to just stamping those acquired characters (if not won in a RP contest, obviously). This will also, hopefully, allow for stampers to do less work in one sitting (IE not a million quests), and thus expedite the process.

So, pretty much an expanded version of what Zomi and Shaz said.

Of course, this is a very sketchy idea at the moment.

My question is, do all the older characters (before the closing of the shop) still have to go through the new process if they have not yet been stamped/have the full two stamps? Such as the raffle prizes -- there's already a considerable delay for them.

I'm not entirely sure if it applies towards the older characters, or just the newer characters that will come forth from the shop's reopening? nwn~

Lith: Yes, that's exactly what I was trying to get at. XD I fully support maintaining a quest subforum and staffers dipping in to help once in a while -- it's something that was done anyway if a concept cropped up that wouldn't work. Are you suggesting a new subforum for acquired character applications as well? Because that would be neat.

I believe the old admins said that anyone with their art can go ahead and RP? Maru, Kali and I are no longer official stampers, so that part of the shop is basically defunct for the time being. :s I think that at least a quick check on senshi attacks or something would be a good idea to prevent potential game breakage, but that can't be done unless Lith does it or hires some stampers-in-the-interim or something. XD;

Ah, that statement was made under the assumption the RP would continue on without any RP management structure. When we realized you guys didn't prefer that setup and handed over the reins to Lith instead, it became her call how she wanted to bring in already-accepted-not-stamped characters into the game. Ultimately the grandfathering rules are whatever she establishes them to be. <3
