He didn't seem to mind having a toddler about his shoulders at least he didn't mind that it was Vance at this juncture. He made sure as he sat down that he didn't dislodge the boy or anything. He was strong enough to somewhat deal with the heavier top weight without toppling under it or dropping the precious cargo.
"Quint," he said simply after a small chuckle. "I hope it is alright, I didn't really want him to get snatched up by someone else, he's a good kid." he muttered openly with a quiet tone and waited for things to be handed to him instead of just grabbing it up on his own. It wasn't his so why should he help himself?

Vance giggled, clinging to Quint's head as the teen lowered himself down. Donovan was just impressed that the guy was humoring Vance so much with his requests. Future babysitter? Probably not, but he was earning points. "Vance, how do you plan to get your food from up there?" Donovan asked while dangling a sandwich from its wrapper. The young man slid one over to Quint as he teasted the boy. "We've also got potato salad, in case you don't like ham sandwiches.." He mentioned to the shark-like young man. "Thanks again, then." It was awful nice of Quint to protect Vance from potential kidnappings.
Meanwhile, Vance seemed to be having an inner dilemma. "You gimme it?" He asked with a smile. Donovan smiled back and shook his head. He was teasing him out of love, but also in hope that Vance wouldn't spill crumbs all over the teen's head and shoulders.
Vance puffed his cheeks, but seemed okay to oblige. The toddler slid off of Quint's back and toddled around to sit with him, grabbing the sandwich from Donovan. "Quint, do you has a Daddy too? Or does you have a mommy?" Vance asked. According to him, from what he had seen in parents thus far, that one only had one or the other.

Quint smirked a bit at the interaction between child and parent where it concerned how the eating would be handled. He didn't mind terribly if crumbs ended up in his hair. It was easily brushed out and taken care of with a bath, really. He took good care of his appearance but he wasn't vain enough to complain if he got dirty somehow. He quietly took up his own sandwich, "I'm not a picky eater," he assured quietly as he began to eat only pausing to help Vance with getting down when the toddler began to move about. He was a pretty good and steady jungle gym all things considered. "It's no problem. He's pretty friendly, that's why I was concerned," he explained softly.
It was good to be friendly with strangers but only to a point...
He turned his attention to Vance at the question and nodded, "And a mommy," he said simply not afraid to use the child's terminology for parents, just to speak on his level. "I also have two brothers."

"He is friendly. That's what worries me too.." Donovan tried not to get too deep into that topic, seeing as the boy in question was within ear shot. He decided to be different, and got himself a helping of the salad. Maybe he really did need a leash for his kid...
And a mommy? Quint was so special! "Brothers too?!" Vance exclaimed with shock. "Where did you get them?" Donovan nearly choked on his salad, stifling a chuckle as he composed himself. True, to Vance, he was sure all kids came from random items. "Daddy, what were you born from?" Vance asked turning to his father, who was red in the face trying not to kill himself laughing. "T..Tell yeah later, bud.." That was a topic he wasn't sure he was ready to tell, especially not in the company of a stranger.

Quint nodded a bit in reply to Donovan and continued to eat. He had nothing more to say on the topic, so long as the man was aware of his child's very friendly tendencies then there really was no call to raise further concerns about it - or so he felt. Why beat a dead horse? It got them nowhere.
The young man nodded a bit and actually smiled at Vance as he asked more questions both of him and his guardian. Quint made a thoughtful pause, "My 'older' brother was born from an item just like me and you, but my other brother came from somewhere else. I do not think he was born from an item but Mom found him all small and baby-sized in the shop she runs," he explained quietly. It was basically the compact version of what he knew about Tek's origins. Sure enough, though, Quint knew that Vance had been a Curio in a vague sort of sense that he knew what everyone usually was with some difficulty.
He looked over at Donovan and shrugged, "The how and why is not up to me to tell ya about, Tadpole." In one fell swoop he doomed Donovan to yet more questions...Later probably.

Donovan was somewhat surprised when Quint admitted to being a Curio. Indeed, the young man was different looking, so it made sense. The supposed abandoned baby also threw him for a loop. Rough area.. he thought. Vance ate up all of Quint's information, watching him with a wide-eyed gaze.
Vance was slightly confused by the avoidance of an explanation pertaining to his father's origins. He could have pursued it further, but he suddenly found his sandwich very interesting. That isn't to say poor Donovan wouldn't get an earful later.
Soon much of the picnic lunch had been eaten. Vance continued eyeing Quint, seemingly thinking up more things the boy could play while in the Shark-man's company. Donovan probably would have loved to leave the park soon, as he thought up ways to tear Vance away from his new friend. Breaking him away from Tynne when they first met was a chore on it's own. "You have a shop-house? Does it have candy? Can you eat the candy in the house all day?"

Quint never found much use or reason to hide the fact that he was a Curio. It was just what he was in a way and he didn't find shame in saying it. To say such things was never really discouraged - just usually awkward to bring up in conversation. He ate his lunch with Vance and his guardian in relative peace not really seeming to mind the weight of small child on his person as he ate. When he had finished he blinked over at Vance and seemed befuddled by the question for a moment.
Soon there was a chuckle, "No, Tadpole, we don't live at the shop. We live in a regular house but I guess if wanted to I could eat all the candy but that wouldn't let me become strong and stay healthy. Eating candy all day can make you sick," he explained with an amazing amount of patience.
"You have to foods that are good for you so you can grow up and be really strong," he explained further, hoping the incentive of growth and adding of strength would get the boy to not question the logic behind what he said. Not that any of it was untrue.

Vance wasn't sure how to take this information. He wanted to be big and strong... but he liked candy. A lot. He looked at his father with a torn look. Donovan smirked. "You heard him." He said simply. The image of his son in his supposed conundrum was too priceless.
"But..." Vance tilted his head and knitted his brows. What a toss up! "I.. can have some candy right?.....right?" Donovan was incredibly tempted to make up lies about candy, how it will stunt his growth and make his legs fall off. But he wasn't cruel enough to do that. "Some is fine. Too much and your teeth will fall out."
Vance's eyes widened, turning back to Quint with a look of disgust. "He's lying, right?!?!"

Quint nodded in amiable agreement with Donovan and smirked lightly, "The teeth will fall out one by one and it won't feel good while it's happenin' either," the teen pointed out avoiding using the word 'hurt' he didn't want to scar the child for life. "Plus the tummy ache it causes isn't worth eating candy all day. A little bit is fine though."
"He's not lying, Vance, but you better listen to him when he tells you these things. He seems pretty smart," he said patiently enough. Even Quint listened to his parents and he was much older than the boy he was talking with. The teen resumed eating and soon finished along with his soda.
"I think I should let you guys get on with your day. I got some stuff I need to do anyways," He announced quietly, "thanks for inviting me to lunch..."

Vance took a lot of this to heart. Whether it would stick past 5 minutes was another story. "Okaaaaaay." Vance agreed. Donovan smirked a bit at the 'smart' comment. It was also amusing how the boy had been looking from one man to the other hoping for favorable results.
Vance seemed disappointed, and was about to pout at the departure of Quint, but Donovan saw it coming. He tapped the boy on the shoulder and gave him a look. Vance looked back to Quint, trying his very best not to seem sad. "Okaay.. I had fun, Quint!" He said jubilantly. "See you again!" He grinned and hugged the teen before he attempted to get up.
Donovan smiled and nodded. "Not a problem. Thanks again for finding him."
