Shisu thought about Shusou-san's previous report on the areas of the village.
"Oh, perhaps you did get them all," Shisu said, completely embarrassed to have missed him mentioning the Housing District.
To hide her embarrassment, Shisu turned to the response Shusou-san had written out while she had been thinking and read it. While reading, she made sure to comment, "Questioning your opponent is always good.... and you attacked. Very smart. Just standing around and asking questions will get you killed."
After reading the response she turned back around to face Shusou-san.
"Very nice. I think that is all besides of course a fight to see if you can not only talk the talk, but can walk the walk. Did I cover everything, Haruko-sensei?"
{{Sorry about that. I missed you mentioning the Housing District. So, you actually got everything. Sorry.
Your character is pretty much done out of OOC. In OOC, though, I just need an explanation of meta-gaming and god-modding and how to avoid it.
Did I cover everything Lilly?}}

'Ah, so I did get everything,' Shusou thought, the nervousness deep in his stomach subsiding. Not wanting to cause the new teacher undue embarrassment, he acted as if he hadn't heard. He beamed up at Shisu as she praised his response. He was glad that he had managed to pass this part.
He wanted to become a working member of the village as soon as possible. He figured it would grant him some sort of protection, in case the Seikon Company was still searching for him. But most importantly, he believed that it would give him the opportunity he desperately needed to find a perfect vessel for his brother.
He looked up at his teacher again, as she explained that the last part of his assessment would be a sparring match. 'Hm, interesting. This should definitely be fun.' Shusou's mind raced as he wondered what kind of fighting style the girl would employ. “Sounds good, Sensei,” he chirped, his excitement waning a bit as he glanced at Ka. 'So long as he isn't hurt, it should be fine.'
--------------------------- God-modding is when one turns his or her character into, essentially, a god. The character can dodge even unavoidable attacks, is nigh-invincible when hit, and/or takes control of another person's character to ensure his or her attacks always hit. The worst use of god-modding is killing off another person's character without their permission.
Meta-gaming is when a role player has his or her character know things written out in the role play, but not explicitly stated to be observable in any matter. This includes knowing another character's thoughts, feelings, or the complete nature of an attack.
I'd actually like to ask a question about god-modding. Not that my character will be using it often, but when it comes to genjutsu is all right to take momentary control of a character in order to explain the nature of the thought manipulation and the sensations produced?

Haruko TsubameNameless Village | Medical Ninja | ChuuninEyeing Shusou and Ka curiously, Haruko somewhat hoped for them to figure out which landmark it was that they were missing. Flashing Shisu a amuzed smile at her chuckle, Haruko assumed that Shisu had also caught onto the missing landmark. 'But did she notice what I did...' At Ka's description of the 'Command Center', Haruko broke out into a small giggle in companion to Shusou's laugh. Still remaining unchanging, Haruko waited for Shisu's assessment before stepping in. At Shisu's little statement, Haruko flashed her a quick puzzled look. 'The Housing District?...Guess she didn't catch the same thing I did.' Knowing that it would be best to mention her mistake to her in private, Haruko remained silent and just watched the scene before her continue to progress.
Haruko was impressed at the student's ability to conjure up another answer in response to Shisu's response and smiled. 'Not bad, though it's not what was asked, it's impressive that she could come up with another answer that would make sense.' Following Shusou's gaze, Haruko began to quickly scan over the presented scenario and nodded her head in approval. 'A nice decent, rp situation, not sure how likely it would be for it to happen in real life but still, this is to test the student's ability to respond properly to any given situation.' Paying close attention to Shusou as he quickly came up with a response, Haruko was impressed with the response he was able to write up in such a short amoung of time.
Turning to face Shisu, Haruko waited for her inicial response about Shusou's rp response. Noticing the slight distress on the girl's face, Haruko assumed that the girl just realized her small slip-up from earlier. 'Hopes she doesn't take it too hard. Its not always easy to catch every word someone says.' To her relief, Shisu quickly regained her composure and took control of the class once more. In response to Shisu's question, Haruko nodded her head in approval. "Good work Shisu-san, I've believed you covered all the neccessary information. Just be sure to keep in mind to always remain alert. Not all opponents are willing to respond to you. As Shisu-san mentioned earlier, its good that you put down both questioning the opponent as well as iniciating an attack. Good work." Glacing towards the clock, Haruko saw that they were making good time and decided that she might as well do some sort of inquiry like Kenji-san usually did when it came to new students. Turning to face Shusou, Haruko spoke in a soft voice, "Well then Shusou-san, how about telling us about your goals and dreams and your usual fighting style. Just so we can learn a thing or two about you."
{@Shisu: Don't worry about it Shisu, it can't be helped sometimes. So far so good though it would be a good idea to mention about our guild being a semi-literate to full on literate guild. Which means proper grammer, capitalization, puncuation, etc. Those are just a few footnotes to mention before having the student go out on their own to come up with a response. Usually I would mention these things as part of the rp but if you want you can also make note of them in OCC. Oh, and before I forget, it might be a good idea to let them know to respond in third person since its easy to misinterpret how to answer this part of the 'testing'. There have been a few ppl who answered in first person explaining what they would do and such. Other then that, good work Shisu. smile
--edit--
@Vermillion: In regards to genjutsu, what I do is that I descibe what would happen once my opponent gets caught. For example: Haruko quickly began stringing her koto in a low, dark tune as she prepared to use her genjutsu technique. Infusing her chakra with the sound vibrations created from her strumming, Haruko activated her genjutsu. 'Earth Break.' Haruko said the name of her technique outloud in her mind. The moment the sound reaches her opponent ears, they'll began to feel the ground below them rumble before breaking. The pieces of the earth cracking apart to reveal an seemingly endless dark pit. If her opponent remains trapped in her genjutsu long enough, she just might begin to find herself falling endless down a dark, endless abyss with nothing to hold onto.}

Shusou snapped out of his reverie about Ka's safety as Haruko began to address him. "My goals and dreams, huh," he said aloud. The convivial smile he kept on his face almost faltered, but he quickly fixed himself to express a state of serene seriousness. "My brother," he began, his eyes moving over to stare at the dog-like chimera. "I want to keep my promise to my brother. To make him whole again; that is the extent of my goals and dreams."
As he he thought on this, he found it difficult to brighten himself up. 'Ne must be lonely,' Shusou thought. He was assured by Ka, and Ne himself, that the white chimera (the most important part to Shusou's aim) was happy within the highly protected paradise at the other end of his seal, but... Ne had his brother's voice, his mind, even if it was nothing more than a childish shadow. He missed it.
As if reading Shusou's mind, Ka gently closed the distance between them, laying his head on the boy's chest. Shusou blinked, remembering where he was, and plastered on the brightest smile he could muster. "Not to worry!" he exclaimed. "That is a dream I plan to make reality. Even if I have to turn lead into gold!" He softly pet Ka's head, who quickly moved back into his sitting position facing the two women.
Remembering the other part of Haruko's question, Shusou began to explain his combat style. "I usually use bladed weapons against an opponent. I'm a close-range combatant and prefer to keep it that way, but if necessary I can utilize some ninjutsu techniques for long-range attacks. Though to be honest," Shusou rubbed his head a bit as he continued, "I don't have very good aim. I'm a surgeon by nature, so I like to be as close to the body as possible for optimal precision."
Ka snickered a bit at that. Shusou's aim was good in the sense that he could hit a large tree at 100 yards. Bad in that he'd altogether miss the target on the tree. "I'm also a large help," Ka said. He didn't like not being addressed. He was, after all, more than a summons. He had his own goals, his own style.
"See here," Ka stuck out his long tongue, revealing a large number of minuscule seals. They began to move, snake like around the tongue, and then stopped. The Seal now in the middle expanded and released a puff of smoke. Ka took in the summoned tanto in his mouth before spitting it out at Shusou, who caught it with ease. "I'm Shusou's other tool box. And I have my own unique jutsu, too. I have a personal interest vested in Shusou's safety." Ka's lilting voice held a large amount of confidence in it as he leered up at the teachers.
Shusou just gave a sigh at Ka's antics and awaited any further questions. He hoped he could make things go a little more smoothly than they did right then.
--------------- Ah, thanks so much, Lily! That's a big help. Also, I went with your example and adopted this bold lettering, so that my speech doesn't get lost in a see of text. ^__^

{No problem, glad I could be of help. smile Just suddenly remembered about 2 minor OOC lessons that I have a tendency to forget about. You pretty muched answered one of them but I'm also making note of this for future teaching reference.
Lesson #1: Tell us about your posting style. What do you use when you post (ex. bolding for speaking text/ italics for thoughts)? Also what do you do for OOC posting.
[The answers to the above can be easily found but yeah..that and our OOC are supposed to be surrounded by either (( )), () or {} but I think yours works too so unless someone else complains about it, I guess you can just stick to what you're using atm.]
Lesson #2: When you prepare to post, what actions do you go through before posting? (do you try to imagine yourself in your rpc's postion, use spell check, use the preview button, etc.)
They're not exactly lessons but they are important and helpful things to take note of when rping so that's why they're asked. Sorry for suddenly throwing so many questions out at you Vermillion.}

{It's fine! Let's see, when it comes to my posting style I like to break up my post so that it's easier to read. I'm going to continue using bold for Shusou's speech, and violet for Ka's. I like to use italics for thoughts.
As for what I do before a post. I always imagine the situation in my head. I like to visualize how my characters' history, personality, and general knowledge would effect how they react to the situation.
Besides that, my computer does spell-check for me, so I always look for the red squiggly, to make sure there aren't any typos. I always hit the preview button to make sure the bold text and color schemes are in the right place, and to check for any grammatical mistakes. I usually do that after I post, too. In case I missed something or if I find a way to clarify something.
That's about it! All good? ^__^}

Haruko TsubameNameless Village | Medical Ninja | ChuuninGiving the young lad before her her full attention, Haruko watched as his expression changed from one of slight surprise to a calm, yet serious look. Listening to his goal, Haruko followed his gaze as it landed on Ka. 'Must be hard for someone so young.' Smiling as she watched Ka go over to comfort Shusou and how quickly he brighten up, Haruko was reminded momentarily of how happy she was with her own summons. 'Maybe I should let them meet later, it'll be fun.' Paying careful attention to what Shusou said about his fighting style, and took note of him being a close-range striker. 'Complete opposite of me, I perfer range over close if possible.' Hearing Ka snicker, Haruko tilted her head slightly in confusion but guess that he was most likely laughing at a memery in regards to Shusou's 'horrible aim'. "I'm sure its not that bad, but I guess we'll see when you conduct your spar later on."
Eyeing Ka curiously as the wolf stepped up to demonstate his own abilities, Haruko noticed the many seals on its tounge and watched with interest as they began to move until they formed one seal in the middle. As the puff of smoked cleared, Haruko smiled impressed that he was able to just summon out a weapon like that. 'Reminds me of some past students I had that could something like that with a seal.' Nodding her head in understanding, Haruko could see and hear the confindence behind Ka's words. 'He must really care for her, can't wait to see how the two of them perform in combat.' Though Ka was leering at the two of them, Haruko couldn't help but walk over and pat him behind the ears, "You really are a deligent little summon aren't you. I think you and Shusou are going to be quite the challange to defeat. Speaking of which, you ready to test out the new student Shisu-sensei?" Turning to face Shisu, Haruko flashed the young girl an approving smile to show that from what she saw so far, Shisu was well on her way to becoming a permenent teacher here at the academy.
{Yep. It's all good. Now then, I'm just going to throw one last question at you and then you'll be good to go. For this task, its going to be a bit tricky since you'll be needing to tell us what it is. So Vermillion, what do you think is the last in classroom task? }

{{Sorry, my computer decided to not let me post. Every time I hit "submit" it just popped back to the reply page with a blank reply space.}}
Shisu listened to Shusou-san's goals and fighting styles. Perhaps I can help him with his horrible aim, she thought, since she had pretty good aim. When Ka moved forward to show them his abilities, Shisu was awestruck that he could make weapons appear out of seals on his tongue. That's so cool. I wonder if I could use something like that for my ninja tools, she mumbled in her head. At Haruko-sensei's last comment, Shisu smiled and said, "Of course."
{{And I don't have time to make this post longer. Sorry. I'll respond better next time.}}

The moment Haruko moved toward Ka, Shusou tensed, his hands moving quickly toward the holsters on his side. As he watched Haruko pet the black chimera behind the ears, he relaxed just a fraction. He didn't think that the kind teacher would harm him, but a ninja always needed to stay alert. Ka was important. He held not just Kane's heart, but the very core of his chakra. But he needed to relax. He briskly resumed a non-threatening pose and put his smile back into place.
Ka's eyes had darted over to Shusou the moment he felt the air around him change. He disliked being touched by anyone other than his creator, but he needed to make sure Shusou didn't do anything hasty. He wagged his crocodile tail and tried his best to look pleased by the affection.
The both of them stared up at the teachers and waited for the directions on their next task; the sparring match.
{I believe the last task is a spar with the teacher. Hope that's right! And no problem, Shisu-sensei. It happens. I'm actually getting booted off the computer by my sister, which is why my own post is so small. ^_^}

Haruko TsubameNameless Village | Medical Ninja | ChuuninShusou's obvious distress at her approach to Ka didn't went unnoticed by Haruko's well trained eyes but not wanting to start any sort of trouble, Haruko had continued with her action as if she saw nothing but made the pat somewhat shorter. Retracting her hand, Haruko smiled at Shisu's enthusiam but remained silent waiting for Shisu to take the lead in terms of the spar. 'Afterall, if she wishes to become a teacher, she'll have to learn about how to evaluate ppl when it comes to sparring.' Still feeling the tension, Haruko decided to try walking back over to Shisou's side to help ease the effects of her being so close to Ka. Watching her student carefully, Haruko could tell that Ka was really, really important to him and that might even become somesort of downfall for him if he wasn't careful.
{I asked for the last classroom task but its okay. Not a lot of ppl actually get it. It's...*drum roll*...the WRITING REVIEW! And from looking at your posts, I must say you have a really good rp foundation and there's not much I can comment on it. So good job! You've passed the Writing Review. I'll edit in my reply later.}

Shisu's fingers twitched to a kunai hidden in her sleeve when Shusou's hand bolted to his ninja tool holster, but when she realized that it was just a knee-jerk reaction to Haruko petting Ka, she let herself relax again. Note to self: Don't hurt the dog during the fight, she thought.
Shisu smiled at the student and his summoning to try to release the tension in the air before saying, "Hmm... I think we're ready for the spar. Where would you like to go? We can spar in any of the training grounds or in the wilderness as long as they aren't occupied."
{{Gaia has been flipping out on me. I'm sorry your lesson/exam/whatever-it's-called was temporarily frozen. I think we're done in the classroom, though, now. You can check the "Traffic" post in the main forum page to figure out which areas are free.}}

Shusou beamed up at Shisu, but his stomach was filled with a bit of trepidation. He didn't quite know what to expect of his teacher. 'I wonder what kind of fighting style she employs,' he thought anxiously. He gave a quick sigh before his mind wandered to the village map in his head.
"Right, then," Shusou began. "I think I'd like to try the Wandering Plains in the Wilderness." As an earth user, he thought that he could probably take advantage, and the large open space would probably allow him to fight head-on.
{No problem about the freeze. I found zOMG, so I had a good distraction during the wait! ^__^ But I think I'll enjoy this sparring match a lot more. I like the creative license.}
