Tybalt sighed as she broke down, hand moving from her shoulder to her back as he tried to soothe her--it always worked in the movies, why wouldn't it in real life? He held her close, freely giving her the hug she had tried to weasel out of him earlier. His cheek remained atop her head, rubbing occasionally against her hair. He couldn't give her much in the way of comfort, but he could give her this.

He pulled away slightly as she calmed, leaning back to inspect her tear-streaked face. The protectiveness he felt for her growled to see her in such a state, demanding immediate revenge against those who had caused it. Tybalt took a deep, calming breath before moving his hand back around, fingers gently wiping the tears from Vidya's cheeks.

"'S alright, Vid...do y' feel better?" he asked, honestly concerned--it felt so different to care about someone other than himself. "Ye look terrible," he said with a small grin, smoothing her hair back. "An' so tired." Although she appeared to be more stable now than she seemed to be when she arrived, he didn't move to free his arm from her grasp. After all, this was Vidya; she got away with more than anyone else did.

Had Vidya been more stable, she probably would have been fairly surprised by the amount of comfort Tybalt was giving, whether it was only an attempt or not. However, as it stood, she accepted the comfort without thinking too much about it; save for being overly grateful.

At first, she never noticed that he was inspecting her tear-streaked face...and she was content to think that she didn't have to be embarassed should she look as bad as she felt. When she felt his fingers against her cheek however, she tried to rationalize it; she'd been crying, he didn't have to look at her to know she'd have tears staining her cheeks~! She gave a small nod in response to his question. "Yeah...I feel better, but I kinda f-feel te--" She stopped, once he openly told her that she looked terrible. She stared at him while he brushed her hair back, then groaned a bit and closed her eyes, nuzzling against his shoulder. "...I thought so..." She complained lightly, though even she wouldn't help the small, almost coughing laugh that escaped her lips. Gah, it was embarassing to be told that, but he'd grinned...so it couldn't have been too bad, right?

"I'm tired, too...but..." She paused for a moment, removing one of her arms from around his so she could rub at her eyes; the other remained looped securely around his. "I can stay awake, its okay...!" She had a stubborn edge to her tired voice this time. Of course, her body was telling her otherwise; but what did her body know! Vidya had finally allowed herself to cry, and that had in turn lifted a huge weight off of her. Now it was safe to fight her way back to herself...everything was going to be alright, after all! "...Where am I gonna sleep, anyway...?" She asked as an afterthought, hiccuping softly as she stared curiously at him.

Had Tybalt been aware of how uncommonly caring he was being, he would have been surprised too. Then he probably would have slapped himself for being so soft, or yelled at her to offset his apparent bout of empathy. He would have regretted the latter, of course, because this was Vidya, the exception to every rule he had ever set for himself. Tybalt wouldn't admit it, had he known at all.

His wings, aching from the unnatural and strained position, finally withdrew, rustling noisily as they resettled against his back. "Could be worse, eh? Y' could look like me mum." He grinned, awkwardly trying to lighten the mood a bit. The stubborn tone of her protests set him at ease--it was bits of the Vidya he knew and...well, knew, and it reassured him that everything would be alright. Vidya was more resilient than her bubbly, vacant nature suggested, he had learned.

"Sleep?" He looked around his room--the choices were limited. "Ye'll sleep in th' bed, o' course!" Tybalt looked down at her quizzically; where else was she supposed to sleep?

Vidya was very good at being an acception to every rule, apparently...since he hadn't lashed out at her for making him sympathetic, or even lashed out at himself for the same reason. If she knew that, she probably would have been fairly proud of herself for such an accomplishment...but then again, it was doubtful she'd realize it anytime soon.

"Aww..that's mean!" She laughed out, though her post-crying hiccups and breathes still hitched the laugh. "She is kinda scary, though..." She admitted a little quieter, hoping Inle wasn't outside of the door to hear her; Vidya would have to die of embarassment right there! Another short laugh followed her words, and finally, an attempt to grin like she used to; she was going to get this back, damnit! She hated feeling like she was feeling now, and whether her body agreed with her or not, she was going to get back to her old self!

She blinked owlishly at him when he mentioned sleeping in the bed. In all honesty, she was ready to sleep on the couch; she actually liked to sleep on couches. They were her favourite nap place, if and when she ever took naps...it was better than falling asleep on the kitchen floor, and she found that out the hard way. "So..." She started slowly, still trying to figure out how to word it, which was hard considering her mind was muggy from her cry. "I'm gonna sleep with you, then?" She questioned, her expression innocently curious. If that was his bed, and she was sleeping in that bed, then that meant she'd be sleeping with him, right? "Yay! I get to sleep with my Captaaain~" She cheered softly, thinking nothing of what she'd just said. Obviously naive and vacant Viddy had never, ever left her.

Inle, luckily for her self-esteem, was nowhere near as sympathetic as Tybalt was being at the moment; she had retreated to her room to play internet poker, all thoughts of distraught children and family issues far from her mind.

Tybalt mentally stuttered at her cheer, grin freezing in place. Yes, he had meant she was going to sleep in his bed, and yes, he had planned to sleep there as well, but to hear such words coming out of her mouth just boggled his mind. Luckily, he was too young to think too hard about attaching further meaning to the words; they were, after all, just going to sleep. He wasn't worried about things that older people might have been--his fears ran more along the lines of, "What if she accidentally pulls me feathers out in 'er sleep?" No, he had to hold onto whatever trust he had invested in her if he was going to get through this. "Uh, aye, o' course ye are!" He had never slept with another person in the room, let alone the bed, before. Hell, he locked his door at night to make sure none of the animals crept in with him. This was going to be an interesting experience.

While Tybalt feared about his feathers, she feared about nothing about the coming night. She still slept with her younger brother in the bed, so she was very much used to getting hit with large wings at night (she was fairly sure there was a bruise on her somewhere because of it, she'd just been too lazy to find it). That, and if push came to shove, she could always steal a corner as her own and curl up there. Had she known he was still paranoid about her pulling his feathers, she would have reassured him; if she'd never pulled out Adonis' feathers by accident, it was highly unlikely she was going to pull out his. "Yay! It'll be like that sleepover at my house when I was smaller! ...Only less Donny shrieking." She flinched at the memory, followed by a short laugh.

Surpressing a yawn, she finally let her arms slide away from his, rubbing at both of her eyes at the same time. "I'm still not tired." She informed him stubbornly; Vidya was still thoroughly convinced her body didn't know what it was talking about, what with all these signs of tiredness and all. "So...whattcha wanna do now?" Whatever he wanted to do sounded just fine to her; she wasn't going to do anything, even sleep, until he was tired. It wasn't much, far from it, actually...but she knew she owed him hugely for letting her cry on him.

Tybalt winced at the reminder of that; as content as he'd been to spend time with his younger crewmates, he hadn't enjoyed the closeness of the tent or the other three bodies in it. "Aye, less Donny shriekin's certainly a good thing." Things would be much different this time, he resolved--for one, Vidya was no longer a midget, and Donny wasn't around to share his space.

He grinned as she fought off her sleepiness. It was almost cute, he decided. "Whatever y' say, poppet." Hm, what did he want to do now? Usually he just read until he started nodding off, but he wasn't going to do that with Vidya around. It was near the time he usually went to bed, he noticed as his eyes flicked to the clock on his nightstand. Well, while she was here... "I've got somethin' t' show ya," he said, moving towards the desk against the wall. It was neat, save for a few scattered pieces of looseleaf on the top.

Vidya clapped her hands together at the memory. "That was fun, though! I think we bought a bigger tent since then..." She mused, tapping her chin with her fingertips. She thought of another sleepover, but she stopped herself; right now she was sleeping over, so there really wasn't any need to do it again. Well, not anytime soon anyway.

"Thats right!" She commented stubbornly; he seemed to get it, so why couldn't her own body? Grr, arg. Vidya was thinking of ways of keeping herself awake, and at that moment, spinning in a circle seemed like a good idea. Getting dizzy would keep her awake for sure! She was all set to start spinning to: but he ended up wanting to show something to her. "Oh? Whassat?" She blinked, forgetting her plan on spinning in circles until she got dizzy, putting in place the curiousity of what it would possibly be he wanted to show her. Vidya scurried after him, in awe of how tidy his desk was..hers was nowhere NEAR that clean, but that might have had something to do with Adonis using the same desk. "You're so tidy!" She finally commented outloud, figuring he should know.

Fun, right. Fun for her, of course, because Vidya was ever-social--for him it was an exercise in patience and restraint. He glanced at her oddly as she started spinning around; what was up with that? After a moment he wrote it off as one of the many weird things Vidya did at random, attributing this particular incident to her emotional stress.

Tybalt smiled at her exclamation. He WAS tidy, preferring organization to messy chaos. He opened a drawer, pulling out a notepad and placing the hastily-scrawled notes that littered the desktop in its place. The notepad bore drawings of what appeared to be a ship, random notes scribbled here and there. His self-imposed seclusion from the frigid outside world had given him ample time to practice his penmanship and mastery of the English language, but the notes were barely legible in spite of it. That didn't matter to him--he was the only one that needed to be able to read them anyway.

"Look," he said, handing Vidya the notepad. "That's gonna be our ship, someday," he stated, feathers puffing up. He was quite proud of his sketch; he had done extensive research on olden-day pirate ships and had figured certain aspects of them into his plans along with parts from more modern ships.

Even if that had been an exercise for him, he pulled it off very well, because Vidya didn't notice. Then again, Vidya never noticed much, especially when she was a toddler. It was a condition she was finally growing out of.Thank god!

She grinned at the odd look he gave her; for some reason, she found it fun to receive those looks. Tilting her head to the side, she watched him fit his loose leaf papers into the notebook, then, finally, focused her white eyes to stare at the notebook as it was presented to her. She was about to ask what it was, but luckily he answered that for her. "Our ship?" She parroted, unable and fully unwanting to hide the excited tone to her voice. Once she knew what it was, she readily opened the notebook and thumbed through it, looking at each and every picture very carefully, plus attempting to read what she assumed to be writing that was around it. "This was what you were doing then, when I pounced on you that one time?" She inquired after another failed attempt to read some of the writing on one of the pages. What she could make out she couldn't really understand; but she did make a mental note and promise to herself to look into it, so she wouldn't be completely lost at a later date.

"That's really cool!" She exclaimed once she had gone through it all, her eyes reflecting the awe she had for the ship that would one day be theirs. She handed the book back to him. "Its going to be the greatest ship to ever sail!" A firm nod of her head only gave justice to her words. "I can't wait to see it finished! Are you gonna build it all by yourself, Captain?" Her words were innocent, naturally. She thought for a moment to offer her help, but for some reason, she doubted he'd want it.

She sounded excited--as she should be! Mere thoughts of his own ship brought his mood up from "crabby" to "slightly-less-than-crabby." "Aye, 'twas. Been workin' on it fer quite some time now. When th' spring comes, I'll be able t' start work on 'er." His childhood had not been spent idly; he had taken to visiting Durem on a daily basis before winter had hit, picking pockets in crowded streets. He had been incredibly lucky thus far and had amassed a very small fortune in cash. Tybalt wasn't dumb enough to actually use the credit cards he found in various wallets--those were sold off.

Tybalt gave Vidya a rare smile, placing the notebook back inside the desk drawer. "She will be, aye. She won't be th' biggest ship in th' harbor, but she'll certainly be th' fastest." He had planned on the ship being half the size of a normal schooner--he wasn't stupid, he knew that a real pirate ship in this day and age would be blown right out of the water--making it fit for fast getaways more than sea-combat. His grin fell a bit at her question. As much as he wanted to do it all himself, he was only one person--one small, weak person. "I'll do as much of it meself as I can, o' course. Might recruit some o' th' layabouts 'round 'ere t' help." His words were forced-casual; he didn't want Vidya to know that he just couldn't do it all by himself.

"I can tell, its really well thought out." Vidya only happily commented with a nod; she couldn't understand what he'd written, but from the diagrams and the amount of writing...well, an awful lot of work had been put into this task. She clapped her hands together excitedly; oh, it'd be great to travel the seas, instead of looking at it from her backyard, or from that tree that overlooked the harbor.

"That's alright, Fast is good! Size doesn't matter." She said with a partially reassuring tone; size only counted if you craved for something like cake, she added mentally. She saw his grin fall, and in her tired state, she couldn't very well hide the curious look she gave him because of it. "Well...if you ever do end up calling someone to help, I'll help!" Heck, once spring came she'd probably be over everyday to see if he needed help, or at least company. It was a big task, and whether he was her Captain or not she was gonna at least try to help; of course the fact that he was just that made her want to help even more. She had to be a good first mate, after all! "Heee...I can't wait!" And she really couldn't...but even as excited as she was, she still had to bite down on her tongue to prevent a yawn.

Tybalt preened at the compliment. Of course it was well thought-out, it was his idea, his plan, and it would be his crowning glory. Then he could take Vidya--and Donny and that giraffe boy, perhaps--and escape this frozen hell. Hm. He'd probably need more crew than that, but he'd worry about it when the time came.

He snorted a laugh at her offer of help; though he cared about Vidya more than he cared about anyone else, he didn't think she'd be suitable help. She was clumsy, and vacant, and he didn't trust her not to mess something up because of it. "I'll keep that in mind," he said, noting the sleep in her eyes that totally belied her excited tone. "C'mon, shoes off an' inta bed with ye. Yer tired, I can tell."
PostPosted: Wed Feb 01, 2006 9:20 pm

See, if Tybalt had said that last part, about needing more crew, Vidya would have been on his case about yelling at her for asking if they were enough, when she'd first seen him again after she'd grown. Luckily, he kept quiet, and she did too.

She gave him a curious look when he laughed at her offer, the look turning into a sheepish one about a second later. Had she said something wrong...? Shrugging it off like she did with most things, she found herself distracted by his mention of her being tired. " But I...! ...Well okay." Vidya was all set to be stubborn about it, really she was! But all of her reasons behind being stubborn seemed to have escaped her, and besides...Captain's orders. Shuffling towards the door, she dropped off her bag and the coat she'd been wearing (really, she'd forgotten she even had it on...it wasn't a very big coat, after all), placing it and her shoes to the side, but leaving it out of the way of the door. While her throat had gotten better on its own, she still didn't find any reason to not take a sip from the water Inle had brought up for her; it'd probably help a lot later.

Vidya glanced down at herself; more specifically at her clothes, which consisted of a long sleeved white shirt and plain blue jeans. She'd never worn her clothes to bed before, but she didn't exactly plan to stay the night at Tybalt's...so in the end, there was a first for everything? With an uncaring mental shrug, she shuffled back to the bed and climbed in, nestling herself comfortably on her side and under the sheets, using her own arm as a pillow, as she was prone to do. "...Is here okay?" She questioned; she didn't know how or where he liked to sleep himself, but she felt she was safe, being on the opposite side of it.

Tybalt watched Vidya ready herself for bed, taking note of where she left her things--he didn't want to step on or trip over them on the way to bed after he turned the light off. He hesitated; he usually just wore pants to bed, but he was also usually sleeping by himself. His internal deliberation lasted a mere moment before he reached behind himself to undo the snaps that held his shirt shut around his wings. If she didn't like it, tough--it was his bed, and damned if he was going to do anything differently just because she was in it tonight.

That thought pleased him immensely, for some reason.

"Eh? Oh, uh, that's fine." He usually slept in the middle of the bed, so he had room to stretch his wings out, but he would make do tonight. He shuffled towards the door, draping his shirt over the knob, and flicked the lightswitch off. After a moment of waiting for his eyes to adjust to the darkness, he shuffled back, climbing in the opposite side. He paused before settling on his stomach. That was how he usually slept--it hurt his wings if he slept on his back, and his side was usually uncomfortable. Another pause, and his wings were spread, one draped over Vidya, the other sweeping the floor. His head was turned towards her. "Just be careful, eh?"
