Depends on what you do, I do video editing so higher RAM is good for me especially on my longer movies.

So. Ten day shipping is actually ten BUSINESS DAY shipping. So, it wasn't supposed to arrive til the 23rd. 23rd came, 23rd went. 24th came, 24th went. Wielder called on the 25th. Credit Card problem. Called dad. Dad called them. Problem over. Set to ship on the 30th.
Know this: You can check your order status on their site. It says on there, "Expected Ship Date." It presently says it ships on the 30th. You know what I just realized? That's when they ship it out. Not when it arrives, when it leaves their warehouse to get delivered. And today is friday. UPS doesn't usually deliver on saturdays, as far as I can tell from google. You know what that means?
THAT MEANS I HAD TO WAIT 2 WEEKS LONGER THAN I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT. 20th became 23rd. 3 days. 23rd became 30th. 7 days. 30th became 2nd. 3 days. 3 plus 7 plus 3 equals 13 days. In my book, that's close enough to be considered two weeks, but if they're another day late, I'm gonna be pissed.
I want my f***ing computer.

My laptop's brand, so it's not the best; but it's better then my Mom's computer so I can't complain.
I didn't get a decked out custom laptop because if the laptop fries or something goes wrong with the hardware, the rest is essentially s**t, so I'm waiting until I can get a desktop to get an awesome custom computer.
But seriously, shipping sucks a**. Ouch, dude.

Ugh. I tried to talk to my mom about it, to try to vent. (Remember, I'm a highschooler) She told me I was acting childish, because this was something I didn't deserve, and didn't work for. I used a metaphor of a man holding a toy above a kid and telling them to jump for it, while keeping it out of their reach, until they finally throw it at the kid in spite. She said I wasn't a kid so that metaphor didn't work. At that point I just gave up.

I just received a check of 3,500 dollars. Considering this piece of s**t laptop has had more virususes than I can count and I now have a netbook, I am considering getting a desktop.

Well $1,600 of it has to go to college. And I don't intend to spend all of the remaining $1,800 on a computer. I saw a bundle with HP, where I could get a computer with 6GB of memory, a 640GB hard drive, with a 25" flat screen monitor and a random printer I wouldn't need for $799.99. It has an intel core i3-540. I don't know jack about computers, so I don't know how good that is.

Not great. Based on that, I'm assuming the other parts' specs. From my assumption, I'd say you'll get good performance for just under 1 year, average for 1-2 years after that, then it'll hit a wall. Though, this is all based on what you want to do with it, as well as what one might expect, in terms of evolution of technology and the internet.
So, if you want to be a hardcore gamer, you'd do better with a gameboy color and a copy of Pokemon Red.
If you want to enjoy Newgrounds or maybe zOMG, etc..., you could do better, but you'll be alright.
If you're looking for School Papers, Music, and Youtube, it'll work well.
Again, this is on assumption of the parts you've got.

I've got an HP desktop computer and all I have to say is that it isn't a very good computer. It's slow when it comes to processing, even though I defragment it every other week, and it crashes a lot. I don't know if it's the operating system (Vista) but I'm not really happy with this "monster of a computer" dad bought me. At least it works for what I need.

you all have better computers than I, mine is a 2004 dell with a Komodo Monitor aka the HAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! monitor and i got 321 trojan viruses.

And Ama, I'm guessing since it's Vista you got that around, maybe, 2006? HP's never really been that good with desktops, so it probably runs as fast as my mom's 2004 Dell C521, With Windows XP, which is the "Good" Computer in our house. If you haven't already, remove the unnecessary programs from it. If you're not sure if you need something you're thinking of deleting, keep it. And if you're running on Internet Explorer, I'd highly suggest switching over to Firefox or Chrome. It's all explained here. Warning^ Sexual Humor. NOT pr0n.
