"You were resting yourself where I eat," Archi replied, not swayed at all by this mare. He was pretty sure she just wanted to see the monster that had scared her earlier. Perhaps then she'd run away...and leave him in peace.
He moved, slipping out of the shadows, to rest before her. His tentacles twitching is agitation. The large fin on his back flexed with the same twitches. "There....now you can tell your friends about the monster."

"I was eating, it wasn't like someone was there to tell me I couldn't re-" Her eyes widened as he moved out of the shadows. He was most certainly not like any mer she had ever seen. Did he even have a tail!? And on his head...and his back... All around he was so...
"You are...so big! No wonder that shadow looked so diffrent! You really are a mer? You look like a new kind all together! Are there others like you?" Mian looked around, ears perked, eyes wide and bright with excitement. Her heart pounded, a mixture of fear, for he was frightening, and excitement. Had he not told her to leave. Had he not been talking to her. Had he just came out when she had first come over, she would have likely swam far far away, terrified. But she wasn't that frightened anymore. He seemed powerful so of course she'd be a little scared. But she wasn't terrified of him because of his looks. She was interested, enchanted, and totally captivated.
His words worked there way into her head at the last moment and she tried to calm herself down. "Your my only friend, Architeuthis. And what monster would I tell them about anyway?" She looked around. "Are there sea monsters around here? Oh have you ever seen one? How exciting!"

Archi took a moment to compose himsefl, then arched a brow. "I'm the monster....or are you that dull?"
He pulled himself up to seem larger. "I am a mer, yes. I don't remember anything about why I am this way...I have always been this way. I do not know of any others like me..."
He moved back toward the shadows, resting there. It was obvious he felt more comfortable hiding. "Perhaps there is a reason you have no friends...."
His tone was trying to be void of emotion, but it was hard to repress that he was a little pleased to be considered a friend.

When he called himself a monster she blinked and barely managed to contain hysterical giggling. She shook a little at the effort. However when he finished speaking all her laughter disappeared and she looked quite sad. "...Oh...that...is a bit mean." She looked down, her ears flattening sadly. She stayed like that for a few moments, thinking. "There is a reason I don't have friends. I'm strange. Others don't like to be around me. Who wants to talk to a water mare with her heart in the sky, let alone be her friend." She sighed. "And your not a monster. Monsters look like giant sharks, or sea snakes. Your not either. Your a mer. And a mer can't be a monster unless we're all monsters." She reasoned. It sounded good to her. "And so what if I am a little dull! Your rather rude but you don't see me making fun of you for it, do you?" Mian was getting rather unhappy with how things had turned. "I am just trying to make a friend. Is that so wrong of me?"

"At least you can blend in with others," Archi muttered from the shadows of his rocky nook. His eyes were downcast. "No one runs from you."
He laughed, a little bitterly. "I am a monster...to others. But, there are far worse out there than me. That is true. But I suppose it's my reasons for pushing away. I think you're the first that has ignored me and wanted to talk....strange one, indeed."

"Well of course things run from me. Like just the other day I was minding my own business and I saw an otter. Cute little thing. I went to say hello and it took off the moment it saw me. Oh oh and the day before that a dolphin ran into me and didn't even say he was sorry." Mian turned her eyes upward as she picked out memories in her head. "And a while ago I saw a bird on some rocks above the water and I went to say hi and the little bugger pooped on me before flying off. I bet you've never been pooped on, have you? Its vary icky."
She smiled lightly. "Just because you've met some who were scared of you doesn't make you a monster. It just makes you a little scary. But that's not bad is it?" Her face screwed up in concentration, thinking. It wasn't all bad as it? To be scary. After all if someone was scary then no one messed with them and they were safe! Yeah! "See your scary because your so strong looking. People don't want to make you mad because they don't wanna risk you beating them up!" She giggled a little. "Its like those scary looking winged ones I see in the sky sometimes. I bet no one messes with them."

"Maybe I am a monster....why else should I look like this?" Archi asked, looking out of the shadows at her. His beaked mouth just peeking out from the nook. "Just because I look scary doesn't meant that I can't defend myself. I just rather not if it can be helped."

The blue mare swam forward a little more. "Well I don't know. Maybe I'm just being dull again. Maybe you are a sea monster. But your a vary nice sea monster." She giggled lightly. "Maybe... oh I know I know! Maybe your not really a mer you just look like one because your suppose to hmm..." she thought for a moment. "Maybe your suppose to show us mers that monsters aren't all bad? You could be an ambassador! A monster ambassador! Oh wow that means your important! I have a friend who is important! I'm so lucky!" She moved up a little, swimming in a circle showing off her excitement.

The stallion arched a brow, watching the mare swim happily. He shook his head and sighed, "You are a very odd minnow."
Archi settled down to rest along the ocean floor. "Perhaps I was cursed for a wrong doing of my parents....ever consider that? For I know I am a mer..."

Mian stopped her spinning to look at him, tilting her head. "Well which is it. You can be a monster or a mer, not both. Your going to make me confused soon." She let out a playful huff, not really upset this time. "That would be vary sad, for the child to bare the parents wrong doings. I don't think that's it at all. If your not an ambassador maybe you really are a new kind of mer. Maybe your from a far off land where all mers look like you. Or maybe deep deep in the ocean where no one goes there are others like you. That's why you like the dark! Your a new kind of mer that lives in the dark parts of the ocean!" She tapped her hoof on the rock bellow her to solidify her point. The mare was having lots of fun coming up with all these reasoning behind why the stallion was so diffrent. She was vary curious about why he was diffrent and at the same time it bothered her that he was so, well she was sure if he wasn't depressed he was borderline depressed and that did not swim well with little miss cheery.

Archi considered this last part, tilting his head a little. "That seems plausible. My shell could have been swept up from the depths...."
Why was this mare getting to him? He ducked back into the shadows, a small cloud of sand coming out of the nook. "I prefer the shadows because I can not be seen...."
"As for you statement on one can not be a mer and a monster, you are very much mistaken," the stallion told her, his eyes peering out of the depths of the darkness. "This ocean is large and vast, there are lots of things out there..."

"Or maybe someone bad stole it from your parents!" She gasped lightly in realization. "Your poor parents could be looking for their little baby all this time! How sad." She looked down, sniffling lightly. "Poor parents. I'd be so sad if I had little ones who disappeared. They must be so worried, even after so long. I know I'd be." She moved to the vary edge, where the shadows just started, and moved down, resting. "I'm so sorry. Have you been alone your whole life?" Mian asked, her voice soft and much less carefree now. It was a more serious tone. More worried, concerned, then normal. Her eyes stayed locked onto his now. His last comment brought up a funny retort in her mind, but she was so worried about him now she stored it away to bring up later.

Archi was quiet a long while before he spoke. He'd been considering Mian's words and questions. "I don't remember anyone ever talking to me before...mer or otherwise. If my parents missed me, I don't know of it. None have ever looked for me."
The stallion was quite a moment longer, then sighed. "You seeing me today was a mistake on my part. Most are never on that kelp bed above when I am hungry. If there ever have been before, they ran from my appearance."
"Don't be sad, Main...I can't miss what I never knew," he added, not sure how to deal with an upset female.

Mian blinked. What did he mean a mistake? Did he really not like her? She just thought he had been teasing. Playing. But did he really dislike her so much? He had told her his name. And she always knew that to mean they were friends now. Would he have told her if he didn't like her? The mare watched the shadows, her face growing more and more worried as she thought about it. However as he told her not to be sad, she shook her head, clearing the thoughts. Smiling lightly, if a bit sadly still, she nodded. "I guess that makes sense..." she said softly. "...Can I ask you a question? Its probably a silly question but you have already said you think of me as dull so...I suppose it won't be a surprise to you if it is a silly question.."

"Just one? You've asked so many already," was he teasing now?
He leaned out of the shadows to give her his attention.
