"Windows. Hmm...ah I see. A while ago a friend of mine sang it to me. But I think I fell asleep and didn't finish listening to the whole song..." Her voice trailed with the thought. She suddenly smiled. "My memory's a bit fuzzy."

Winter still had thoughts about Rockstar, it felt like an eternity since they last parted ways but alas she had to return home. Thinking of that, she suddenly remembered her first hope when she had heard the song. The wheels started turning in the little filly's head. Was it possible that the two were connected?

She studied the rosy colt, looking for any clues. Finding nothing to go on, she started to talk about her mentor and see if maybe he recognized the name. "My friend, Rock, likes to sing and he taught me quite a few songs. Unfortunately I can't remember them all. And it's been a while since I've seen him."

Ivory smiled sheepishly as she started thinking and remembering her last encounter with the piece. But the name she spoke made him blink and stare in surprise.
"Rock, as in Rockstar? You know my father?" he asked blankly, taken off guard that they had the same teacher for the same song. The world was so small!

"Yes...Rockstar. Your father?!" Winter was taken a back by the newly discovered information. She was certain he had no children when the two had traveled together, and now... So much time had passed.

She shook her head, tufts of her white mane whipped about. "Well isn't that just funny. Figures that's why the two of us knew the song - although you were much better at it." She chuckled. "You get that lovely singing voice from your dad but it's unique all on its own."

Winter straightened up, "So how is your dad, and the rest of your family?" Her eyes twinkled with genuine interest.

Ivory blushed at the sincerity of her compliment. He had, by far, the gentlest voice in his family and he loved it so. His mother did as well, and his dear cousin and Nerissa. They praised him for it often, and he and his aunt Selena would sometimes sing together, as they both had a gentle, silvery voice. Though her's was slightly rough from lack of use, but it was still something Ivory admired about his adopted aunt.

ivory nodded, "Yes, my father is doing quite well. Though he is out on another of his lone journeys at the moment." A slight tone of sadness slipped between his words as he informed her, "My two brothers - one older and one younger - are both doing well, and my mother is also fine and healthy." He smiled to Winter. "My older brother, who looks like father but has my mother's sparkles, Hoshi has a voice like Rock's. And Rockcandy, who is a perfect mix of both my parents, has a very loud set of voice chords. My mother sings, but it is also an excited song type."

He smiled distantly, thinking of his happy family not far from this here clearing, probably all getting into some sort of fun-trouble.
"What about your family Winter, are they around? Any siblings?"

"Oh," she said simply. She wasn't sure what to say, other than it surprised her that Rockstar had left his family on his own adventure. Gauging by the sadness in his voice, she didn't mention it. Winter listened as Ivory described his family and she smiled. "Hmm must be nice."

When the subject changed to her family, she was a bit taken aback. How could she describe hers? It was complicated, and even more so because she hardly spent time with them in their special clearing. "Well..." she started, "Mom and Dad tend to spend all their time in our clearing. They hardly venture out, just comfortable I guess. But I get antsy if I stay there too long so I usually go off on adventures by myself. Blizzard, my brother, tends to take after my mom and he spends most of his time with our parents."

She shrugged. It did bother her that her parents were so relaxed and content with where they were, mostly because she spent nearly all of her time alone. The exception being a few times she came across a friend like Ivory. "But at least they let me have my freedom."

Ivory gave her a light smile when she finished. Her family sounded nice enough, a typical, reliable, happy family. But, like she had heard his sadness, she heard her hurt. She was lonely, and she longed for someone. But also like her, he gave her the courtesy of not prying and waiting until she was fine with his asking further.

He did the only thing he could do for her; "I have quite a long leash myself. And i prefer to spend it alone, or at least in the comfort of the natural sounds of the fields and forests, not Soquili. Maybe we could keep eachother a bit of company more often?" He gave her a genuine friendly smile. Alight c**k of his head to the left and his strange golden eyes glowing with fire.

"Yeah I'd like that," she returned his smile. Winter found comfort that she wasn't alone with her family's tiny dysfunction. Their conversation had turned a bit too melancholy for the blue foal's taste, and she was determined to make it a bit more upbeat. Perhaps a change of subject and scenery just might do the trick.

"Where do you like to visit around here? I know a stream up the way that we can take a dip in. It is getting a bit warm..." She trailed off to gaze up at the sun nearly direct above them. Winter turned back to look at Ivory, "And since our families let us go on so many adventures, maybe we could compare stories?"

Ivorfy gave a sprkling smile. Revealing his juvenile like joy inside at hearing her idea. He loved swimming, and what more - he loved stories! His older cousins told him so many fabulous stories. The entire Rocket Family seemed to have such an interesting life, that Ivory could scarcely depict the true adventure his aunt and uncle had gone on, and the ones Neri and Rocket made up for his amusement.
He also adored hearing the hidden stories, secrets and truths in music. He thought of himself as something of an expert; always finding the meaning in between the lines first. He loved listening for it. It made him appreciate the beauty of the song even more.
"I do not think I know the particular stream, can you show me where it is?" His voice a tad high with excitement.
"I love sharing stories, I hope mine are not too dull for you." He laughed, blushing slightly and moving so that he stood right against her side. Ready to set out with her.

Her face instantly brightened, "You won't bore me. The stream's not far, just up this way." With that she bolted out of the glen, past a pair of thick trunked trees. She glanced back ensuring he was behind her. Winter didn't run at full speed, worried that she might lose him.

A few more twists and turns and the stream's soft surrounding soil was under their feet. The stream broke off from a larger river and was clear of any stong currents, perfect for wading. Winter flopped into the water causing a mild splash. "Mmmm..." The cool water felt ever so refreshing to her.

"Come on in. And why don't you start with a story. We can make a game of it, you tell your story then I'll tell a story like it."

Her face glowed with happiness and he couldn't help but smile meekly in response. She was so sweet and even though he was shy, she was bringing him out of his shell. She continued to surprise him.
She did so again as she bounded off without warning. Ivory padded the ground in slight confusion because gasping with realization and bolting off himself. Winter was faster than he was, but he was used to running. And he loved it because of his adopted family you always ran and galloped to the reaches of the horizon. He wiped his striped mane about as he galloped with his new friend, feeling a smile taking his features and making him laugh in delight.

Before he noticed it, they really were at the stream. He trotted to a stop and watched with golden eyes as the filly glanced herself in the cool stream of mountain water. His two ears pricked back in curiosity. He understood what she wanted as she watched him with her mismatched eyes when she invited him to sit. He smiled and nodded, slowly walking over and gently placing himself in the stream opposite of her.
"This is nice." He mused. He looked up at her following request and blinked, instantly searching his head for a story to share with the beautiful filly.
"Hmmm, I am not sure how to start. But this is one of my fondest memories. I have an aunt, uncle, and two cousins, all whom adopted me as i am not blood related to them, and they love to run about and explore. They are always on the go, especially my cousins.
Rocket, my older cousin, one day took me with him into a cave he had discovered a moon before. He wouldn't tell me what the adventure was every time I asked, so I only understood once I saw the gaping thing." Ivory laughed stiffly, remembering his cousin's teasing at his shocked expression. But to his defense, the cave entrance had been huge compared to a foal of his size at the time.
"Anyway, he convinced me to step inside with him, because I have to admit it was quite dark. Once inside we continued on inside, it became darker and darker. I kept asking if we could turn back, but he only teased me for being cowardly. Though once deep in, I began to become accustomed to it."
"The rocks all around started to become more and more interesting. Glittering quartz and moonstone and other such beautiful rocks. i managed to dislodge some and take them home afterward. But that wasn't the adventure, Rocket told me. SO we continued on and we eventually reached another opening in the cave wall. Crawling through it, we come into a hallow filled with light from the clear rock ceiling. it was like ice. It was so beautiful inside. It was definitely worth the hours of walking in the dark." Ivory smiled awkwardly at the end of his short story, hoping it wasn't too bland.

"Now that I think about it, that cave was not too far from where we are now if I am correct."

Winter listened intently to Ivory's tale. She brushed off the urge to start splashing about - they had agreed to come and exchange stories not goof off. As her companion told his story, she could feel strange emotions stir within her. She suddenly felt very lonely, as she had very few tales to tell that didn't involve just her. The filly also wasn't accustomed to Ivory's dialogue, listening to him sounded as though he were a few years her senior. Then again she didn't conversate very much either. She suddenly yearned to be in his hooves and experience what he had.

Ivory finished, and as if her wish had come true he mentioned the cave from his story. "Oh!" Her eyes brightened. "That would be amazing! Do you remember the way? I'd love to see it for myself. It must be so beautiful..."

She suddenly stood ready to head off towards their adventure. Standing there she realized she'd gotten ahead of herself. "Oh...well we don't have to go." Winter grew a bit sheepish, "It's...I've...umm...been awhile since I went on my last adventure. Lately I've been hanging out around here, swimming mostly."

The blue foal cleared her throat. "Ermm...well it's up to you. But...umm...for my adventure, the closest I ever came to a cave was a bear's den. Thankfully he was hibernating." She laughed nervously.

Ivory was an experienced story teller. His cousin Nerissa had rubbed off on him very early in his years. Because of her, and probably her whole family which always seemed to have the most interesting and fitting story for any occasion, he had come to love tales and stories and myths and legends alike. The fantasy and magic enswirling them was beyond enchanting. Sort of the way he felt when he sang the perfect song for the perfect moment. It was an inexplicably amazing feeling.
But it was personal and real stories he liked the best. Not only did they teach a lesson and form a picture of the soul hiding inside the one telling the story, they also gave him dreams. Nerissa and Selena, her mother, always told him stories of their adventures. Slip ups and victories. Early on, he had also noticed the way they spoke, the rise and low of their tone, and just actions in general, were all different. More mature, more wise, more experienced. Without meaning to, much less noticing, he had adapted the same way of speaking whenever he told his tales and those he knew of. He sounded unlike himself - more like some personality hiding inside him, waiting until the right age to peek out and engulf him and change him. Make him into the gentleman he hoped, and was almost destined, to grow into. But for now, as a foal, the odd tones and voice he took on were completely secret to him. He was completely oblivious to his transformation every time it occurred.

Ivory smiled up at Winter as she stood, the eagerness glistening in her mismatched eyes, he couldn't help but comply to her whim. He wanted to go as well, but she just enforced the desire.
"I do want to go, I would love to show you." He stood up, his wet legs dripping slightly and his short tail soaked. He jumped up straight, and waved his tail in a circle or two, trying to dry himself off to be once more comfortable.
"I think i should be able to figure our way to it form here. I have to say, it was not easy to miss." He chuckled.
Taking a few steps forward, he turned back and smiled at his friend, flicking the bangs out of his eyes again. "Come'n Winter. I want to share this adventure with you."

She was excited and relieved by his answer. Winter let out a breath she hadn't known she was holding and quickly joined him on the water's edge. With a few shakes she was as dry as she needed - though her mane remained damp.

The blue foal's cheeks turned a shade of violet as she blushed at his last statement. It sent her heart a flutter. They were to share an adventure together. What Winter needed the most at the moment was...a friend, and she found one in Ivory.

"Lead the way!" She told him.

Ivory beamed at her as they readied for the quest. They began walking together almost immediately afterward. They walked briskly at first, keeping the tempo and only breaking it to trot or gallop. The vowel of the wind weaving in the manes of the foals and they giggled, sharing the peacefully perfect moment of adventure.
It seemed a bit too soon when they arrived as they were intoxicated with each other's presence and laughter. Ivory looked the gaping mouth of stone as it stood before him. It was just as intimidating and extraordinary as he remembered. Though not quite as big. He almost felt as though it had shrunk, when it was he who had grown. Though the thing was still superb.
"Here we are Win, don't worry. It isn't too bad. Just stay by me." He said gently after he took a few steps inside and looked over his shoulder to his new, dear friend.

The trip to the cave was certainly too short. Winter followed Ivory's gaze into the dark depths. To a lesser foal, it might have been intimidating but for the lively filly it was utterly inviting. Her eyes widened and filled with eagerness. There was a different aura about this trip, though Winter couldn't pinpoint what exactly.

She nodded at Ivory's instructions, and joined him just a little behind and to the side. Making sure she was behind him so he could lead, but not by much. She smiled and her red eye twinkled a bit in the entrance's dimming light. "I trust you."
