Nasuymi sniffed. It figures that someone would be cocky already. Another boy arrived, late, and she shook her head. Of course, everyone knew why they were there! Two sets of eggs had been laid and the mothers were broody bunch. But the touching, ah now that would be something.

She waited until another boy answered, hoping he would make a fool of himself, then piped in her two marks. "Gotta make sure we know how to behave ourselves 'round the eggs. Don't wanna upset ter mothers or hurt teh eggs."

That might be all she would say during this lesson but at least she would get it right!

Akaya had woken plenty early enough to make it to the lesson on time, but she'd dithered between arriving early to make a good impression and waiting so as to not appear too eager, and then had lost herself completely watching a fascinatingly colored trundlebug toddle on its way.

Her thoughts were still wandering about as she hurried along to meet the others, noting that she wasn't the only late arrival, and she offered Saykiro a rueful smile. She made a proper bow appropriate their ranks to the Candidatemaster and his green dragon--it was already obvious she was late, and a bit of respect might go a long way, though by his face he didn't appear the kindly sort. She surveyed the rest of the group absently as she tried to catch the conversation--the Candidatemaster must have asked what they were here for? And the subject seemed to be behavior...what would be required of them. Akaya knew the gist of it all from the stories--hm, was there a Teaching Ballad or two specifically for Candidates? If there wasn't, it seemed like there really ought to be...

"Yes, it's about the Touching in a manner of speaking, as well as a general review of what you've learned about basic dragon anatomy. While I know that much of it will be covered again and in more intimate detail for those of you who Impress, it's best that we start to understand now at the very least the general parts of what could become our lifemates. We'll start though with discussing the Touching, seeing as we have one of those special occasions involving two clutches at-"

O'rer stopped talking, a very bad sign. His eyes had flitted up to two stragglers entering the little group, and almost instantly his mood (which had been pretty even) soured. Punishment was on it's way. Hitath rumbled with mild amusement from her perch as she felt the color start to flood into her lifemate's face, the man doing his best to quell the rage that was trying to erupt from his order coming undone. She could also feel him searching his mind at a rapid pace for the names of the two late arrivals, and when he sparked on them she knew as well - and thought it best to give the pair a heads up.

Small Saykiro, small Akaya - you are in trouble. Best be on your manners now, and answer whatever questions he asks. Prosper.

"We'll pause here for a moment as we all take the time to welcome in Saykiro and Akaya - late as always. Should I take it that the two of you happened to plan coming late together so your chores will be much easier handling as a pair, or are you just simply lucky in that regard? Either way once this lesson is over I expect the two of you to stay around and receive what is your due. Running off will only result in something you do not want, are we understood?"

Farellen watched as the Candidatemaster coloured, feeling very uneasy as the sudden switch in mood in the man. leaning towards Salin and Gabriel he whispered "shards i wouldn't want to be those two right now, although, i reckon that how we looked huh Salin, when we were late" he said, stifling a smile at the memory of the punishment they'd gotten.

His eyes flicked to the dragon and wondered what colour would be HIS lifemate, "i guess we'd better listen to this lesson huh?" he said, knowing the more he learned about dragons now, the better he would be able to take care of His...when he Impressed.

Sure am glad I got here on time, Gabriel thought privately to herself as she watched the Candidatemaster's reaction to the two late arrivals. She could have sworn she almost saw a vein popping in his forehead with how red he was turning. The teen was both surprised and amused when Farellen chose that moment to whisper to them. He must have had a death wish or something. The teen simply nodded, choosing not to reply verbally lest they get into any trouble themselves. If there was to be any whispering it should at least wait until the teacher doesn't look as if he's about to explode. She would rather not join the others in any after lesson punishments.

He gave Hitath a slight nod of greeting and thanks. Hearing the Candidatemaster call out him and Akaya, Saykiro ducked his head in embarrassment. "Understood Cadidatemaster, sir." He said in a low voice.

He looked at Akaya and was kind of glad to not be the only one late. His eyes flicked around to see the rest of the group, and instead of moving in closer to them, Saykiro moved off to the side some more. He focused in on what was being said, berating himself for arriving late, when at home and at the Beastcrafter Hall, he was either early or on time.

Nithan had halfway been listening to the Candidate master over their lesson. Until the pause. That grabbed his full attention over to the man. Shutting down the urge to grin, just barely, he glances towards their latecomers. Now things were getting interesting finally. The same lessons repeating each clutch (not that he'd really been there long enough to have any clutch be boring, not at all!) kind of started to run together and could use some livening up in his opinion.

Devlin hadn't meant to be late - he really hadn't, but he hadn't been at the weyr long at all and had gotten just a bit turned around in trying to find his way to the proper meeting place, but when he arrived just in time to hear the Candidatemaster scolding two others for being late..and upon seeing said Masters rather sour expression he inwardly berated himself.

With an apologetic look on his face he tried to join the group with the least amount of fuss and distraction possible. He hoped he hadn't missed anything too important, this was not the impression he had wished to make - but he supposed he'd just have to work harder to redeem himself.

Saekagi, the boy with the scarred face, looked slightly paler, in spite of not being the one even in trouble, and heaved a very quiet sigh of relief, glad he'd managed to get to class on time. He wasn't keen on drawing any form of negative attention, not when he was sure that he'd already drawn quite enough just for being here. If he'd been even remotely aware of Nasuymi's opinion, he'd have probably given up and just elected to crawl under his seat for the rest of the class, unless that would also offend her.
He was equally relieved that it hadn't been a trick question, even if he hadn't provided all of the requested information, and sank back in his seat slightly, content to let the latecomers take the Candidate-masters ire, and making careful note to avoid it.

---

Salin gave Farellen a quick nudge with his elbow, getting increasingly nervous as the Candidate-masters face flushed impressively red with anger. They probably had looked at least that sheepish, and if -this- man had caught them showing up to class late, Salin with his hair still wet as it had been that day, he had no doubt they'd have gotten into considerably worse trouble. More so the time they'd gotten caught passing notes. Whispering in class? They'd probably get something -really- awful. "Shh, we're going to get in trouble" He whispered, as quietly as he could manage.

Farellen noted the look on Salin's face, and his hushed whisper, and sighed under his breath "alright but we've got to meet up after class" he whispered. His eyes moving about the class he noticed another come in after the first latecomers *uh oh* he thought. Then his gaze rested on the boy with the scarred face, he'd never really interacted with him, but apart from the scars Farellen thought he was pretty cute, the way the boy used his hair down over the scars to hide them was kind of endearing. He made the desicion to go and find out his name at some point......if he remembered to that was.

Nasuymi snorted to herself as two--now make that three candidates walked in late. Shame on them. If they wanted any chance of Impressing, they better make sure to make it to the sands on time! No one would dare risk one of the dragonets not finding his or her bond mate. Personally, she hoped that O'rer would hurry along and get back to the lesson on dragon anatomy. It sounded most interesting.

Not that she needed too much learning. Only just the other day, or was it seven day, that she had helped wash down the blue Opeth with some of these silly gooses. Personally, she had hoped they would act better but Faranth only knew what was going on in their minds! Settling into a comfortable slouch, she waited.

Grimacing, Jalarant also walked in behind the other late candidates. As if it wasn't bad enough that he was late, he was later than the others as well! He hunched his shoulders, trying to make himself less of a distraction to those who had been prepared enough to be on time.

'If you keep this up, Oaf, you'll never Impress.' He mentally berated himself, mumbling a quiet apology. He didn't want to draw more attention to himself, but he was late. That merited an apology.

Looking awkward and unsure of himself, Jalarant just crossed his arms tried to blend in.

((Squeezing Viskal in since the date has been extended.))

Viskal might have felt a little smug, if it weren’t for the conditions. Accustomed to the finicky demands of his old master form his Hold, he’d arrived before the lesson had started, early but not to attract unwanted attention. The welcoming call had startled him at first, and he flinched like, well, a hold-born before squinting against his own stupid fear and finding a forward spot to wait. He’d eyed the green while waiting, as politely as he was capable (which wasn’t much in truth), but too interested to refrain from the opportunity of examining a dragon close-up. She was a pretty thing and witty looking. He wasn’t exactly sure about how intelligent dragons were, or rather, if they had any limitations at all, but he gave a small nod when he thought her eyes passed over his group once. And O’rer? He pretended not to see the man when he wasn’t speaking to avoid any extra attention. In a group of so many Candidates he was content to let the Candidatemaster turn the late into examples. As it was, he was rather new to the weyr and had yet to attend many lessons. There was no hope of him being as knowledgeable as the older boys before the Impression – a fact he’d like to keep from O’rer’s public eye. In private where he might not be made a fool of, he’d step forward with whatever questions he’d gathered.

For now though he sat quietly in place and noted the other arriving Candidates. Some he’d met on unfriendly or indifferent terms, and he didn’t speak to them here either. Better to keep his own council.

Mine, please. Take some breaths for you're hurting my heart with how much your heart is hurting. We will work this together so remain calm - surely they aren't doing this on purpose.

So says you. I think we should just turf them all from the Sands if they can't even follow simple orders.

Hitath rose from her laying position into a sitting on, her wings spreading slightly as a worried tone echoed into the voice she sent to her rider. She knew O'rer was flustered at the lack of order that was occurring, at the lack of respect he was getting, and she knew that once this was all over the man who seemed hard to the talking would probably lament to her about how he was unworthy to be the Candidatemaster. Hitath knew O'rer was just fine for the job, she was always certain of that.

Punish them as well then, Mine. You will do what you need best and I will always support you.

There was a vocal chime from the Green, one loud enough for all the Candidates to hear, and if none of them could take to mind what she and her lifemate had been speaking on (which none of them could) it would be safe to assume as a Candidate that the Green was unhappy. She wasn't, but who were they to know?

"I should remind you now, all of you standing before me, that with two clutches on the Sands we're going to be following tradition and protocol far more intense than before. Rules are important beyond the simple thought of them, meaning we have to follow them or there could be problems that not even our Weyrwoman and Wyerleader could prevent."

O'rer moved from his position towards the group of Candidates, his face neutral as all the color had leaked from it and he looked more healthy, normal. It was his eyes though that were cold, calculating, and from her perch Hitath kept her rumble.

"Tell me this now, any and all of you - more so those who are late - why should I allow you to stand? Those of you who have arrived late have clearly shown you cannot be trusted to follow rules, that you cannot be depended upon to be prompt for anything. How am I to know that you will not fail on the Sands, that you will not cause a problem for the rest of us who wish to Impress?"

The Candidatemaster crossed his arms, his lower lip twitching with nerves. He was waiting for an answer from all of them, not just any in particular. While it may have been an idle threat to them - they may have thought he didn't have the power to do so - with what all was going on O'rer knew the Weyrwoman would support him to protect the future dragons.

"Because teenagers don't come through until it's all on the line," responded a soft voice, not quite dripping with sarcasm but definitely more glib than would be appropriate for addressing the Candidatemaster, and Lanakirene edged into the lesson with her typical s**t-eating grin plastered across her face. "A lot of us have been to the Hatching lesson before, Candidatemaster."

She ran her mouth off without thinking; that much was obvious. But eventually her brain caught up with her vocal cords, and she managed to turn THIS IS HOW YOU BEHAVE AT A HATCHING. Heard it. into, "Besides, Hatchings never feel serious until the dragons start humming. Before that, it's like a Gather." Admittedly, not much better, but at least she wasn't entirely mouthing off to the man? Sort of? Either way, brace for impact.
