If Seraphim's reply didn't get Beatrice going, then the dramatic thunder effect towards the end of the transmission definitely did. Oh, boy, she loved this weather, as much as it apparently annoyed her technical equipment.

"Now that sounds exciting, I'd dare say!" Beatrice chuckled. "So, any interesting sights down there caught your fancy yet?"

She tapped the worthless excuse of a monitor screen a few times, awaiting a reply, but all she heard now was a small static buzzing and the pouring rain. She hoped it wasn't broken; it didn't sound like it, but she still gave it a moderately accurate kick, to be on the safe side.

"Oi, you still there? Over, over?"

Penn walked out of the deck and noticed that the radio was crackling... a response, again from the Hawk. Sin, meanwhile, seemed to be...enjoying the wrecks? Huh, didn't expect that. But then, when you're dead, there's not a lot to be regretful of, hmm?

"Yes, the rain is nice," Penn replied, now grabbing the radio speaker to reply to the Hawk. "Still here, over," she replied. "Nothing interesting aside from possible survivors; they might be gone, though... over." Indeed, the shipwrecks below seemed almost...

A shadow passed over the ship. It was very quick, just a split-second that it happened... but another one passed. And another and another.

Sky surfers, it seemed. Rambunctious young kids risking their lives surfing through the run using modified "ships" and vine-like casimir trees to power them, but they had sails and appeared more like surfboards than anything. Even in the rain they didn't mind putting their lives on the edge. Some of them started shouting as they made laps back and forth, something about a "downpour wave".

"Right, no apparent clues? Any idea what happened to 'em all? Is this a case of average pirate raids, or have some sorta big, scary—"

A sudden beep shut Beatrice up. The poor excuse of a radar began flashing, registering a number of fast-moving dots that were too small to make any actual sense of. She peered through the window, but couldn't see anything through the rain at her location.

"Um, never mind that. It appears either my radar's gone haywire or we've got incoming. I'm pickin' up a bunch of small UFOs. Over."

She frowned at the peculiarity, and took her biggest sip of brandy thus far.

"Just a bunch of sky surfers, over." Penn tried to look up, but either the umbrella would not let her or her eyes would close shut thanks to the rain. The surfers again continued to buzz back and forth, not caring about the people here before(?) them.

And of course, one of them crashes straight into the wall. Or rather, the guy's ship; he himself jumped, apparently thinking he was Superman. There seemed to be no sign of a parachute on him. If it weren't raining, you could hear the crunching sound he made on impact.

Some of the surfers stopped to stare down, one shook his head in disbelief, and they all went back to surfing. To so callously shrug off a death like that, either they knew exactly what they were doing... or they didn't care. 'twas probably the latter.

"Poor shmuck," Penn replied. "I'd hate to see what would happen if they had wings instead of ships."

"Sky surfers?" Beatrice shook her head. "Sky surfers!? What's up with that?"

Again, she tried to see through the drenched window, but it was futile. As she did so, she didn't notice how one of the dots seemly met a sudden stop in the canyon wall. If she had, it may have brightened her day a little.

"Oi, you got visual? Should possibility arise, tell those pesky shrimps to kindly bugger off, will ya! Lest there's definitely going to be lot of 'poor shmucks' around here, real soon."

The Hawk almost came to a smashing end as well, but with a few inches to spare, she managed to avoid a collision with the wall. Note to self: don't forget that you're still flying.

"Over", she dryly added.

"Definitely got visual, over," Penn replied. But there was no way to tell them off. They had no radio, just walkie talkies with headsets, and even then they wouldn't listen to a cranky old captain like her. So what did she do?

    Simple: she'd blind them.

Penn took out from another compartment in the same pillar a simple remote control with a single large button on it. Putting away the radio speaker for a bit, she musters all she can and shouts, "Hey, bunch of idiots! Look over here!"

    And so they do.

And Penn turns away, turns on her inhumanly bright lamp with a single push and blinds them all.

They all fall like dead flies screaming.

Penn turns off her lamp and looks down. Most of them are dead, but one is still wriggling in pain.

    "Oh, they're gone alright..."

Although she did notice a sudden flash, and noted how the dots suddenly stopped, descended, and then finally came to a stop at the bottom of the canyon, Beatrice naturally didn't know exactly how Seraphim had carried it out. Nevertheless, she found herself somewhat stricken by how quickly it had happened, and she emptied the bottle of brandy, then placed it on the control panel with a bang.

"Well! That was efficient. So, you, uh, killed 'em all off?"

She honestly hoped not. Annoyances were annoying, obviously, but in most cases they didn't deserve to be eradicated entirely.

There were many shadows zipping above, and once Sinsario lifted his head up again; he noticed that the shadows were of many kids were on these…floating surfboards. How interesting! He’s seen them on water before but this was the first time they flew. It seemed horribly dangerous to do such a thing, but such is the life of thrill seekers and he wasn’t going to complain!

It’s fun to surf though, and he’s done it before…except instead of a board and a sail; he rode a shark. Originally the shark had refused to be touched and attacked him many times (It didn’t matter though, he could fix himself.) but Sinsario kept trying until he had finally thought to treat the shark to some food and tricked her to let him ride her. It was quite the experience, and he actually kept the shark as a sort of pet. Well; the shark kept following his ship for months afterwards, and he never minded because it was fun watching her jump several feet into the air to grab a piece of meat. Her name was Tilly the Great White, a lovely girl.

“Don’t suppose I can do the same sort on air though…” he muttered and with that there was a loud bang. One of the kids had crashed into a wall; the others looked downward for about a second before carrying on with their game. Do they not grasp the concept of death? Well true, they know the risks. Smart.
Penn kept talking to her radio doo-h, apparently more ships are around looking for something too. Probably complaining about the kids, but he didn’t see what was so bad about them. Sinsario kept his gaze on the thrill seekers, enjoying them as much as he could until Penn shouted “Hey, bunch of idiots! Look over here!" They all look, including himself; when Penn pushes a button and a sudden burst of light is emitted from a large lamp. His eye is immune to it and thus is not phased, but of course the kids were and when he turned his head back to them; they were gone. Huh? Did they disappe- oh no wait…they’re all dead on the ground. Sinsario couldn’t help but frown; he really enjoyed watching them play, but whatever. Poor kids.

“Eh, should we really let perfectly good food go to waste like that?”

"If the rainwater and the dirt doesn't penetrate too far into the skin, of course. Broiled or grilled~?" asks Penn towards Sin. Now replying to the Kinetic Hawk: "Yeah, kind of. They're probably orphans, no one'll miss 'em. Maybe."

Penn stopped the Charon, disconnecting her radio connection with the Kinetic Hawk, and then lowered the ship further to the ground. The canyon began to fill with water, but it would be at most about knee-deep. Nothing serious. "Sin, wanna help me fish out these bodies?" She threw her umbrella to the side and reached for the nearest corpse, one that was floating face down. His head seemed rather bashed in, and his left leg looked like jelly, with bones sticking out.

The rain finally let up, thank goodness.

Beatrice fell silent for a while. A bit harsh killing them all off, just like that. She suddenly became aware that she couldn't be quite sure about just what sort of persona this Seraphim truly was. Best not to start whining about this. She coughed, and then:

"Right, no, I guess... I guess not! So what's—hey, wait, did you hang up? Hello? Hey, over-over? Oh, dammit."

She kicked the radio transmitter again, and then moved her attention to the exterior. The persistent rain was ceasing. Seraphim's vessel descended into the canyon below. The Hawk followed, and circled above the larger ship a few times before she decided to go all the way down. While not entertained by it, she was fairly keen on seeing the corpses—if only for examining purposes—and in the meantime she might as well try to take a peek at Seraphim and her crew. She kept lowering, trying not to crash straight into the other ship's hull; such an inconvenience might have ruined any chances of a sort of pleasurable greeting.

Penn noticed that a shadow had engulfed her ship. She looked up, just as she had grabbed the corpse by its arms, and noticed that it was a ship. Was it the Kinetic Hawk? At the moment, reality was dragging her out of her imagine spot, and Penn had to pull the corpse up with her own strength.

"Ach, I'm gonna have to find a hot spring after this..." Penn placed the corpse in a corner on the deck and went back to the pedastal to use the radio and again contact the ship.

Movement on board. Beatrice peered through the Hawk's window, bitterly ignoring the corpse-laden canyon floor below. Not an awfully big crew, apparently. She punched a few buttons here and pulled a few switches there, and the Hawk came to a relative stop, hovering instably above the ground. She didn't touch the radio, partly because she told herself that she wouldn't be the one picking up a continued conversation, and more significantly because she really wasn't sure what to say right now.

"This is Seraphim, over." The Kinetic Hawk was... big. Most ships were bigger than the Charon, yes, but... ah, nevermind. "If this captain guy is here, he's either dead, in hiding, or drowning, over." Penn began to scout the water and in front of the ship. There really didn't seem to be a sign of recent life here.

But what if the captain wasn't at The Devil's Run?

Sinsario was absolutely giddy that Penn approved of using the kids as food; he mentally danced with excitement as he was finally going to be able to eat a proper meal. She mentioned the dirt and rainwater on their skin, and then asked the best question she could possibly ask; how to cook them.
“Oh come on Penn, human skin isn’t that weak…let’s grill ‘em!” His mental dance almost went physical at that moment. Penn talked into her radio thing, replying to some “Kinetic Hawk”, which was a silly sounding name. Penn said no one will ever miss them, but that is hardly true; someone will, but he said nothing as Penn lowered the Charon.

She asked him if he'd help fish out the bodies.

PFFTT! Of course! He skipped right next to Penn as she tossed her umbrella and picked her first kid up; that one certainly had a brutal end.

Sinsario reached down and grabbed another kid by the cuff of his pants, quickly and smoothly directing him toward the ship. His head was faced upward and it was hard to see the damage done to him until he was pulled closer; definite damage to his ribs and a nice hit to his head. This kid was short; probably Sinsario’s height and he was adorable. Really, this kid had nice round cheeks that only complimented him, his eyelashes were full and his irises were a nice light blue; probably the baby of the group.

Poor child...he still had a lot to live for.

Still, Sinsario dragged the boy into the ship and that’s when a huge shadow loomed over the Charon, but he paid no heed for all he could think of was food. Penn; however, did and walked back to her radio after throwing the first kid to the corner. Sinsario shrugged and threw the child to the same corner with ease then tried reaching for another one. It was pretty much always fun to play around with dead bodies, cruel as one might think.

The shadow continued to loom and Sinsario still did not care; if it was someone of importance then he’d kill them. Hell, what Penn did was hardly legal and if they’re going to break a law, might as well break a whole bunch of them.

Radio buzzing again, then Seraphim's voice. No missing captains. Either they were honest about that, or they'd found him already and wanted to keep the bounty for themselves. Somehow, though, she felt that that probably wasn't the case. Seraphim probably hadn't been around much longer than Beatrice had, anyhow.

"Ah, what rotten luck. My money's on the former. How big's this canyon, then? Any chance of localizing his remains? Or his ship for that matter, maybe that's a start as good as any?"
