With the magic word in the air and Doucette's words spoken, Zeke was a-okay with handing over the Essence. His fingers relaxed around the vial and he turned in his seat to hold it out to his young ward, but held up a finger as she neared to attempt to snatch it up.

"Remember, be very, very careful with this. It's beyond fragile and very important." He couldn't stress that enough, but there was a lilt in his voice that pushed it in as far as he could manage.

"Mm-hm." Anastacia nodded. She understood. She wasn't an idiot and wouldn't ping it off the walls like Dust Bunny did to her toys at times. She just wanted to see it. What was so hard to understand about that? Regardless, Zeke seemed reassured with that nod and carefully turned the vial over to the Frei. She took it with lithe fingers and cupped it like Zeke had done but with both hands instead. She was immediately enraptured with it. The colors that swirled and spun within the liquid velvet-blue were like nothing she had ever seen before, and she had seen all colors of the rainbow since living with Zeke. They flowed like water within water and it was the strangest but most intriguing thing she had ever seen in her short life. Zeke, Dou, and Vivi were quickly pushed out of sight and mind and now Anya's world revolved around the bottle of something.

Zeke had to laugh, albeit softly, at the change in his ward's demeanor. He looked back to his two companions and shook his head lightly. It'd be okay in her hands. She was young, but as he knew, she was cautious when exploring new places, surroundings, and things. It was sort of like she was expecting something to come out and bite her, but nothing ever did and she was quick to relax after a few moments time.

"Ah, thanks Vivi!" The words spilled out after he realized there was a glass of lemonade before him, and Zeke plucked his glass off the counter to raise it to both women. "Cheers!" He took a sip and relished the cool sweet-tart taste that graced his taste buds. So very, very good.

"Ahh..." Zeke set the glass down and looked approvingly at the Frenchwoman. "Very delicious Vivi, thank you!" He moved the lemonade to the side as to not knock it over in the process that followed. The Lab member cleared his throat and turned his gaze back to Dou, smiling but with a touch of silent apology at what he had just put her through. Learning was necessary, and sometimes you needed an example, display, or assistant, but now learning was over. Anya was floating nearby - and he turned his head to look at his charge when her wings creaked in that tell tale sign she was moving off somewhere - and now it was time to get back to business!

"Now...Let's get back to what we were doing, eh?" He procured his pen and the proper forms, placing one of the two in front of himself to get down the obvious information. "I just need you to tell me what your Essence and captured soul are, Dou. Once I jot that down and fill out the other necessary spots, I'll hand it over for you to read and sign, okay? After you do that, and I get your Essence back from Anya over there," he turned and saw her lingering two tables down, "they'll all be tucked in one of my cases here and you'll be all set until your Raevan is born!" He gave his pen a little flourish and positioned it over the line for the Essence. Not one to leave his lovely friend Vivi out, he turned to the Frenchwoman and gave her a radiant smile.

"Same to you of course, but I already know what your Essence is!" He gave her a wink and a brilliant grin. This would all be taken care quick and easy and with only the one bump in the road so far, Zeke had good feelings all over. It tingled most in his arms and he checked to make sure his hands weren't shaking from excitement. Two new Raevans soon enough; he couldn't wait!

And just like that, the tension dissipated.

Vivi watched as the regal spider drifted off with the liquid aurora borealis, and thought to herself of her young cousin, Renè, remembering how her aunt would have to patiently explain things to the boy when company was present -- what not to say, what not to do, how not to take off one's trousers at the dinner table just because they were a bit itchy. A smile tugged at the corner of her mouth: children were children were children, regardless of the shape and size of their exterior.

How strange, she mused. Vivi had never really -- and would not begin to, either -- considered herself as a parent figure for a Raevan, even if it was unfolding to her that they were, indeed, children to begin with. A guardian, absolutely. A guide through this unfathomably bizarre world, absolutely. But, the parents of the Raevan were in her pocket presently: a vial of dawn, and the soul of a stag.

Zeke, she thought, her eyes flicking over the man's pleasant face and even pleasanter smile, was making an admirable guardian already.

"Aa oui, of course you know my lovely Essence! You know, I think I shall miss these two when they are gone," Vivi said with a little laugh, taking out the vial and bottle from her apron pockets and setting them on the table. "The Dawn, such a lovely little thing, and what calm and joy she is. And this..." Vivi lifted the bottle slightly off the table, her smile fading in intensity but not in warmth. She spoke as though making introductions for a person, not for a set of objects that had been left in her care. "... is the noble white stag, the finder of the lost." Vivi sighed a little, placing it back down. "You cannot imagine my surprise in having met him! I do wish you could have seen him alive, mon ami! Such beauty. But he was, I am afraid, quite adamant to be reborn. He gave us all quite a little fright."

She laughed cheerily then, tucking loose locks of hair behind her ear, her face becoming fond and happy. "I suppose I shall have to watch out very sharply for this Frei when he or she is born, then, non? I shall be calling you ceaselessly for advice, mon ami, beware!"

Like a storm breaking and the clouds clearing, Doucette's expression quickly brightened when the small situation passed and she smiled warmly between Zeke and Anya before taking a sip at her lemonade from Vivi. The sharp, tangy flavor making her feel if anything even more giddy at this new moment. And Anya had hold of the essence, which had never done more than act like a naughty little vial when placed upon the table for but a moment. An escape artist that little bit of liquid was, Doucette was sure. At least the frei had not been interested in the bottle of soul, swirling coldly within its container.

"Of course," Doe replied with delight, leaning into each of Zeke's words with rapt interest, not easy to forget her mishaps along the road of soul capturing. She did not want to end up being the Silly Sally of the group again and so every sentence got a little nod and blink of recognition and acceptance. In a way, she was looking rather reminiscent of a child determined to get a perfect score on their school test and thus clinging to every letter from the teacher.

When his words had finished Doucette had reached for the pen to sign her beloved bottles away, but she paused as she listened to Vivi now (not quite with the same eagerness) and smiled at the recollection of the night of the stag. Doe could certainly understand Vivi's unhappiness at losing her calming essence and the swirling, golden glamor of the stag's soul even if she didn't share it. Her own essence, though hypnotizing in terms of beauty, did little in terms of effecting others outright, and the soul bottle just left her feeling...strange. There was really no better word at the tip of her tongue for the hollowness that seemed to chill from the core when left holding the moonstones soul in one's hands.

After thinking for a moment longer and listening to Vivi and Zeke continue talking, Doe turned back to her papers and began filling in the empty lines. Essence? Liquid Aurora Borealis. Soul? Moonstones. Doucette sighed slightly at the thought of the crumbling gray chunks of stone back at home that she hadn't had the heart to throw out yet. She was missing the gleaming soft gold and ghostly blues that threaded through the iridescent silver.

It was nothing she had ever seen before and it was the strangest thing she had ever seen to boot. As she floated away from the group of three humans the bottle of something-or-other had obviously jiggled and moved about in her hands from her motions. Now that she floated still in the air, the actions of the glass vial continued. The motions were small but it was clear the corked glass was attempting to jerk itself toward her fingertips, which were raised in a cupping motion to prevent anything...unsavory. Though she had prepared herself in advance to hold the thing she desired to look at with care, the actions from the bottle - which should have been like any other bottle and thus unmoving - still caused her to loft a brow.

Just what was this thing? Why did it try to move toward her barrier of phalanges? And why did it seem like...water within water? Anastacia looked over her shoulder at the conversing humans and frowned ever so slightly. Like when she first explored Zeke's house, she would make her own deductions before asking any questions of the brightly colored male and the two females sitting across from him. So...First thing first...

Zeke had his eyes on Vivi as the charming Frenchwoman spoke and as she spoke of missing the two things she had come to own for the last few months, he had to pause and wonder about such a thing. He hadn't gotten to live with or explore his bottle and vial - hell, he hadn't wanted to handle his vial past a touch! - but the moment he had come into contact with them was also the moment when things had progressed forward at a dizzying rate and he hadn't had the Soul Glass in his hands for very long at all. He couldn't begin to imagine how Vivi and likely Dou were feeling about giving up the two items, and it did make him wonder. How would he have reacted if he had held onto both the bottle and the Fel Virus for weeks or months and had to give them up after having them so close for so long?

He couldn't rightly say. His inner thoughts didn't come across his face though, as his smile remained firm and bright. His hand reached out and instead of touching the two objects Vivi had placed down, Zeke instead touched her hand, hoping to ease any sadness she was feeling but not displaying.

"You'll have to tell me the tale sometime, you know." Zeke took the Frenchwoman's hand and gave it a tender squeeze, "but don't worry, they'll only be gone for a little while. Soon enough, Vivi, they'll be back. Just looking a little bit different than they do now." He gave his friend another wink and his eyes flicked over his shoulder to his own ward. What had been a vial of purple pathogens and the red and black smoke of an unfortunate black widow had in a few months time become his charge. The fact that it happened still awed him and though Anastacia wasn't as friendly or outgoing as one who was those things could have hoped, he still loved her.

"And I'll give you my cell phone number before I go, both of you." He was all too happy to help! "You can call me anytime you need to, for anything. My phone's always on, even at my actual job, though then it's usually on silent or vibrate." The only time it was off was when it died on him or he was charging it!

Zeke had it in mind to jot his personal number down now, but he had no paper other than what was used for the forms and those would be returned quite soon. Plus tearing a piece off would probably be considered contract sacrilege and he wasn't about to possibly get himself or the two women in trouble with anyone. It could wait. A napkin or scrap of a notepad could be procured after all this was said and done. With that back in mind, Zeke looked back to Dou who had taken the proper forms from him and was filling them out. Not to be a nosy rose or spook the woman by peering at the papers while she was writing, Zeke instead turned his head toward the soul bottle that had been sitting placidly off to the side.

"I've never seen smoke like this before," he said with soft awe and delight at the slowly twisting fog within. While the colors were pale he was still enraptured with it all the same. "Though...I haven't seen too many yet." He had to admit that - giving away his junior status at the Lab in the process - and did so on a sheepish tone coupled with a soft laugh. The vet turned the bottle around in his hands with care and tenderness, feeling only a subtle hint of nothingness from it that spoke that what was confined within was neither animal nor plant and not truly "alive". Vivi had a stag coupled with the dawn, what did Dou have coupled with her aurora on earth?

"Ah yes, Mssr. Zeke, do not begin to imagine that you shall be let go without giving me adequate means of contacting you! We must set up the play dates between our three, n'est pas?" Vivi pressed Zeke's hand warmly in response, and the smile she shined at him and Doe was wide and enthusiastic. She was well aware of the fact that Anya did not seem to be the 'playing' sort, but there was no way she would turn down any opportunity for the unborn dawn Raevan to meet potential friends. One never knew when two people might get along. Anya seemed reserved, but so terribly young; she might grow into talkativeness, or have a hidden sense of humor, after all! She could be a secret jokester of some sort!

... well. One could imagine, at any rate.

"Now, to fill out a form and to give you my telelphone," said the Frenchwoman with a little laugh, taking out her little red cell phone from her apron pocket and sliding it across the table to Zeke. "And, before we know it, we shall all be seeing these bottles and vials floating about with us." She laughed pleasantly and turned to Doucette. "It is so very thrilling, do you not think? I wonder who yours shall become... a bewitching lady, do you think? Or a mysterious man with glittering eyes?"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 05, 2010 6:35 pm

Zeke's handling of the bottle had her eyes squinting with worry and she looked between the papers in her hands and the bottle in his every few moments. Of course everyone would react differently to the sensation, but she was very ready to leap into action and rescue the colorful man at the sign of any...discomfort. "It's very...different?" she asked hesitantly to his words, looking at Vivi with eyes dark with concern towards her small charge.

Vivi and Shepard had been privy to Doe's multitude of unsuccessful attempts to capture her soul, as well as her haphazard accidental victory. Doucette's concerns over the soul captured were rather well-founded in her own opinions, but she didn't want to come off as overly concerned in front of someone from the Lab. Someone who could take her baby from her with just a word of concern about her as a guardian. It's quite nerve-shaking not to know why one is chosen.

As usual though, Vivi's infectious nature had the red head smiling as she flipped to the next paper and began scanning it. "Quite thrilling!" she agreed without hesitation. The journey might have been many things up to this point and thrilling was probably very near the top of her list. Cheeks flushed a light pink at Vivi's question about the gender of her charge. Truly, the woman hadn't paid it much thought. It was still hard not to think of it as two glass containers with stuff inside. But Vivi's sudden mini-description had Doe instantly in fantasy land. "Oh...I would be very happy for either," she breathed, completely torn between her mental image of the bewitching lady or the mysterious man. Both were quite welcome in her book.

She paid no mind to the chatter that was going on behind her, and didn't even register the phrase 'play date' when it was spoken. No, her eyes and attentions were on the vial fully and the gears in her mind were turning as much as the vial was turning in her hands.

But no matter how much she turned the vial, the colors never mixed. She rolled length-wise it and the colors stayed put in the middle of all that blue-black. She flipped the vial end over end and the colors bunched together, but spread out again once her hands stopped twirling them. This was the same result as she held the tube upright with its cork between her digits - the greens and soft blues fell together like the coils of a spring, but in an instant they were ribboning through the dark velvet once again. A crease appeared between her brows, utterly put off and confused as to this oddity. Nothing she had encountered acted this way. She was stumped, and about to give up, but then something she hadn't tried came to mind.

"I think that sounds like a good plan." Zeke wholly liked the idea of meeting Dou and Vivi's Raevans together and introduce his own to them, but at the end of the day he had to remind himself of how unsociable Anastacia could be. Not exactly friendly, but polite when she wasn't agitated...It was partly he fault, he believed. He hadn't exactly been searching out Raevans for her to meet, both thanks to time constraints and a pinch of selfishness on his own part. He wanted to know her as much as he could, and teach her some of what he knew, before he sent her out among others of her kind. Thanks to that, Anastacia had had the most contact with humans, but now that the offer was extended and a meeting could be assured rather than happenstance? He happily slid his own cellphone toward the Frenchwoman.

"Different's not a bad thing, Dou." The veterinarian turned his eyes to the other woman as he placed the Soul Glass into the proper space in the suitcase. He gave the glass a gentle pat and gave Dou a wink as he picked up the small cellphone Vivi had passed over. With how he looked and how he saw the world, different was wonderful. Different made the world go 'round and the word just had to be the Lab's middle name with all things considered.

"I felt the same way as you too when Anya was still in her tank." Once he entered his number in full, Zeke slid the phone back to Vivi, though his words were for Doucette. "To tell you the truth, gender wasn't even on my mind most days. I just wanted her to be healthy, like any parent or guardian would. No matter what comes out, I'm sure that you'll both love them! Boy or girl...Each Raevan turns out wonderful in the end."

He sat back in his seat, starting to reminisce, but he didn't get too far into his thoughts as he realized there was a subtle, but clearly there sloshing sound coming from behind him. He paused a moment, brows knitting as he tried to figure it out, but then the realization of who and what were behind him came crashing back to mind and he was on his feet in an instant.

"Anya what are you doing!?"

The startled cry hit the Raevan and caused her to turn, but didn't cease her actions. Much like one would shake a bottle to mix in drink powder, Anastacia was shaking the vial in her hand up and down and all around. The vial was a blue blur in her hand and there was a look of determination on her face that faded when she saw her guardian moving toward her with a look of 'oh god no' on his face. Her actions immediately ceased and instead her gusto went to moving herself away from the man who was not respecting personal boundaries right now.

"Anya, Anya, Anya!" Zeke said with alarm as she away from him. He then realized why she was doing that and came to a shaky stop, hands up and palms out to show her he meant to not touch her or invade her bubble anymore. "Be carefu--What are you doing to it?!"

Her wings and crown were flared out but Anastacia's face was impassive despite the shock. The vial was now still in her hand, not even so much as trembling as it was grasped. She looked at it, seeing nothing but a bit of bubbling at the top of the water. What was she doing? Holding it now, obviously. Couldn't he see that?

Vivi's handwriting scrawled in happy loops over the form's blank, waiting lines; the ink's drying in her pretty script made it all feel real somehow, all feel cemented and finished and somehow grand. She blew a quick puff of breath over her ink to dry it faster, and then tilted up her head to better listen to Zeke -- when the other scrambled up, darting toward his charge.

Again, it was of young cousin Renè that Vivi thought, the startled rush to keep the little boy from putting his fingers in a light socket or eating a dusty leaf or somesuch -- that terrified run that parents gave to stem certain disaster that was all but lost on the recipient thereof. Instead of worry or concern (Vivi had seen the vial sloshing about at Doucette's and was certain that it would be fine), Vivi showed only a sweet, caring sort of smile. She, well... she felt happy for Zeke, going through all these things, caring so much for his charge. And she felt pride, pride for being part of this strange and lovely family -- when Zeke had given her the bottle and vial, she felt like as though a charming stork had left her a priceless package on her front stoop. But now, having signed the forms in her own writing, having seen and met guardians so capable and lovely, like Zeke -- now, it was all real, like a formal adoption.

"Naughty, naughty, ah?" Vivette breathed to Doucette, squeezing the other's shoulder soothingly... just in case the sight gave the other more fright than it had her.

Slightly distracted by some possibly concerning wording (which turned out to be a misread thankfully!), Doucette didn't seem to notice there was any sort of commotion going on until Vivi's hand was upon her shoulder and the accented words floating into her ear. With a little fluttering blink her head was picked up and turned in the direction of all the noise, confusion prominent upon her features as she watched Zeke attempting to corner a very frightening looking Anya. Not usually squeamish with bugs, Doe was completely not interested in being near all those life-sized and angry pointy things.

"Nono!" she gasped, jumping out of her seat and waving her hands around for Zeke's attention, eyes wide with concern about the confrontation that might result, "There is nothing she can do to it! Indeed, she is not doing anything I have never attempted before. Curiosity might kill a cat but so far, there has been nothing I or my dogs can do that can make that little vial give up its secrets. You cannot blame Anya for trying." Doucette gave a small grin to the spider frei in hopes of being moderately comforting.

As long as the girl wasn't smashing the vial open and letting all the essence run down the drain, Doe wasn't particularly worried about the durable liquid.

"Anya you can't shake tha--"

The call from Doucette made Zeke turn around, face sheepish in spite of himself and the facts the Irishwoman gave about the Essence. It made him feel a little better - especially that she wasn't upset by this - but it was still a bad thing to go about shaking Essence vials. The aurora was durable, but there were quite a few that were fragile all the same.

"Oh...Well...It's good to know mixing it won't turn it brown like paint!" Even though 'mixing' wasn't the correct term for what the virus Frei was doing. He gave a little grin to the two women behind him, but turned back to his Frei once the expression was given. The papers were signed, the bottles were ready to be or already placed in their proper spots, and the only thing that was missing was this one little vial. Once he got it back, he could tuck it inside, and that would be that!

Lucky for him, Anastacia was more than willing to turn the vial over. Turning, shaking, spinning, and everything in between did nothing to blend, separate, or explain the various questions she had about the strange substance. It was frustrating, but she was also rather bored with it. She had her fill and when Zeke turned around he was rather surprised to see the Frei holding it out - no questions asked or anything.

"Oh!" The vet the said with a little grin. "Finished exploring it already Anya?" The Frei rolled her shoulders forward once the vial was carefully plucked from her fingers.

"Bored," was all she gave as a means of explanation but it was enough for her and her guardian.

"Well okay," he said gently, understanding that this transaction might seem that way to the young Raevan, "we'll be leaving in a little bit, so just hold out till then." He gave his Frei another smile and turned around to face the two women. Anastacia hung for a moment, then went about trying to regain some interest by looking at the various things on the wall once more. "Now that I've got this, the sets are complete!" He laughed airily and reclaimed his seat. "Both of you filled the forms out, yes? And Vivi, you have my number now and I'll happily give that to you as well, Dou."

Just about over now, but the good company he was around made him want to stay all day.

Ahn, with the vial's secrets unwilling to give themselves up, the not-so-little little one had grown bored with it! And must very much be wanting to return home, back to her own, more comfortable space. Vivi shook her head with a grin; soon -- or soon enough, rather -- this bakery would be another Raevan's safe haven.

"No risk at all of that brilliance fading, I think!" she chimed cheerfully, straightening the papers and passing them on to Zeke. "It is quite better than any paint that ever was. And yes -- here I am finished with my forms, my lovely friend, and I have here your number to call when I am quite out of my depth! How lucky it is for us to know that you will be there on the other side of the line, my goodness." Her smile warmed as she looked back at him.

But a tinkle of bells from the front door announced the coming of other patrons to the bakery; Vivi broke from the business of Raevans and Raevan-raising and rose from her chair at the noise. She called a quick hello to the newcomers and then turned back to her companions: "Shall that be all for me, my friends? I must tend to the store, but please stay as long as you may like! It is always quite the joy to see you."
PostPosted: Wed Jan 05, 2011 4:53 pm

A little laugh escaped her slightly glossed lips (well diminished due to frequent sips at her beverage) and she shook the curls about with a dismissive wave of her hand. "Brown would indeed be quite unbecoming! But the best I've managed to do is get the colors to sort of...disappear into the black. They don't mix, but the black will sometimes sort of...envelop the colors." Doucette shrugged as if to say the mystery was long over in her mind, especially now that their bottles were being taken away and the next leg of the journey was beginning. Surely the mystery of the liquid lights would fall into the hands of someone far more capable than her own.

A little shutter passed through her as she thought of Vivi's Dawn being shaken though -- while there was apparently no harm done to her own, it was not a delightful image to think of the little pink and gold pieces broken into even more tiny pieces. A true shame that would be! Vivi must have been extra careful the whole time to keep them all in their own shape.

"I am also finished with my forms," the Irish woman grinned, also grateful that Zeke would be leaving them his number for any sort of emergencies. Perhaps that would have been more helpful back when she was having such trouble with her soul, but unfortunately the best sight is hindsight and it's ever so unhelpful.

Once Vivi had wandered off Doe looked at her wrist watch with a little frown and a tilt of her head often displayed when she was deep in thought, "Unfortunately I should really leave too...even though I don't have an appointment, I've got a few things to write up that people will be more happy with sooner than later. I hope we can catch a drink another time though Zeke? And Anya?"

"If you keep saying those nice things, Vivi, I might start to blush!" Zeke only grinned more as he reached the table and set the aurora into the proper case and slot. When the tinkle of the bells was heard he too turned around to see, and when the Frenchwoman asked if she could dismissed herself, Zeke gave a nod and a gentle shooing motion of his hand.

"You're all set, Vivi, and I'll call you when I get the good news!" He couldn't resist giving his friend a proper goodbye and wrapped Vivi in a hug before she could get too far from the table. Once she was released, he looked to Dou. "Not a problem, not a problem!" He waved his hand with that airy grace that meant he wasn't offended that his company had to part. "Duty calls and all, but I'd really like that." He always jumped at the opportunity to make a new friend!

As everything was winding down, Zeke wrote his number down on a spare piece of paper and slid it across to the Irishwoman, picking up the forms in return and tucking the respective sheets in with their corresponding Raevanware. Once the cases were locked with a hearty snap, Zeke extended his hand to Dou and shook when she reciprocated.

"Feel free to call me anytime. Like I said, my phone's almost always on and if you have any questions, comments, or that sort of thing feel free to give me a ring." He released her hand and let the woman pass by, waiting for that tinkle of bells that sealed her exit before gathering everything in hand and lugging them over to his own Raevan. "Ready, Anya?"

The spider Raevan turned around at her guardian's voice, having been watching Vivi tending to the needs of the patrons who had just come in. She shifted her bag around on her shoulder and gave the vet a slight nod. Yes, ready and willing. With the addition of the few strangers it had become just a bit too crowded for her tastes and showed with the way her body seemed tense. Her guardian understood plainly and with a nod of his head allowed her to move before him.

"Ladies first."
