NinetailedNightmare
So sterile, so... clean.

He'd had a hard time finding the so-called lab. Sure, he had a good sense of direction, but this had been ridiculous! And when he'd gotten to the white house, the people inside had stared at him as if he were some sort of escaped asylum detainee until he took out the jar.

Red, glowing, pulsing with some foreign energy he'd never seen before. Not that he'd admit it, but he'd watched it for some time now with mild amusement, sitting so uselessly upon a kitchen shelf. The boys weren't aloud to touch it after the first day, though they'd been trying to climb in it several times ever since. Annoying brats.

Talis had allowed himself to be lead farther into the house, down through some stairs into what /should/ have been a basement. Of course the place was larger than he could have imagined it to be and it put him on edge.

When they finally introduced him to the office, he was more at ease. The light was dim here, not as blindingly bright as the rest of the place.

"Please," The young woman behind him murmured as she ushered him in. "Make yourself comfortable while you wait." Like hell.

"Thank you." Curled from his lips, hissing through clenched teeth. He didn't care how nice this place seemed. It wouldn't change the fact that he was in a lab. Someone next door could be on the slab for all he knew. The jar in his hands was warming to his touch, as if responding to his ill feelings or perhaps the familiar place.

As the door closed behind him, he didn't move. Not that he was afraid. He was just pig-headed for the most part. He refused to be comfortable in this place, around strange people. He didn't even know if he was supposed to be here so early on. Maybe he was late? Talis tilted his jaw upwards and pulled his tie a little tighter, then pushed his glasses farther up his nose. The owner of this place wasn't some bitter old matron, this he observed from the small dip in the center, rather much like a lounge. Dammit. What had Kyo mentioned about the habits of others judging by the room they kept?

Male, it had to be. Or some dyke. Probably the latter. What the hell did he have on women anyway?

naeodin
Shy growled, in a foul mood. The people had lied to him, saying that this wouldn't affect his own bodily functions. And if those endless could create pockets of space to mix his genetic DNA with their own, why couldn't they do that somewhere convenient, like in a test tube? He was too busy to cart around a full stomach-- literally.

And none of his clothing fit as well.

"Shy, a man is here to meet you about the jar?" a woman said, stepping into his lab with a shy smile. "It's the red one."

Shy's frown was still there, but it eased as he smiled, nodding his head. "The holly one?" he was curious as to what it would contain. It had meant to be something of Christmas, but he had suspicions about it...

Stepping into the office, he adjusted his labcoat, trying in vain to cover the bulge in front of him. His face was cool, composed and he smiled, inclining his head.

"Welcome to Project Zero Three Zero." He said. He took a seat behind the desk, leaned back and watched the man. He was interesting... not quite what he imagined for a holly owner, but that was fine.

"My name is Shy, and I own this place."

He was sure the man had questions, but he was curious about something else as well.

He wondered if this man knew how to relax at all.

NinetailedNightmare
"Good evening," Replied the young man, his eyes projecting a soft otherworldly glow in the dimmed light. He may have looked proper enough, but it wouldn't be fun to run into that pair of red eyes down a dark alleyway, would it? "Shy." As he got the man's name.

And that was just the whole ordeal, wasn't it? He wasn't supposed to have the jar and he damn well didn't want it no matter how attractive it may have looked in his barren apartment. So no, he was not Redd, who would have gladly partaken in ridding Shy of all that sweet stuff he was keeping on the center table and then draped herself over his chair. No, he could not relax unless he totally tossed his primal instincts out the window and told himself that this was indeed not a lab, but some psycho ward. They wore white coats there, too, and he was much fonder of the idea of being tied up and muzzled than thrown on that silver titanium slate while psycho ward-escapees crowded around him with scalpels.

However, he may have come off as being a very stiff individual instead of a man -creature?- reliving a large phobia. He'd preferred it that way if given the choice.

His own face remained nonchalant and void as he took in the stout look of the man, though his nostrils did flare ever so slightly as he caught some hidden scent. Pregnancy? But he didn't blanch, didn't gawk like some other guests might. Instead he just looked the other in the eye from his position close to the door. His lips parted slightly, revealing rows of teeth that seemed... grey if any color. Perhaps they were just so white that the dim light of the room made them seem that way. Oh, yes, he had some questions alright.

"Are you in any way affiliated with the government?" Point blank. Hell, he hadn't even mentioned his name yet. Maybe he was going a little too over-board on this?

naeodin

Shy stood there, blinking. Was that the question? His face remained impassive, but a little relief flickered in his eyes, as if he had been expecting something else.

The question amused him, because he slowly smiled.

"Government?" He asked, grinning. He was grinning, as if he had never heard something so amusing in his life.

"I am not." he said slowly. "Affiliated with any official or non official organization. This is a completely independent project, and." he smiled, tilting his head.

It was laughable, as if a government would be willing to sponser his work.

And then, Shy tilted his head, frowning as he examined the question from the other side. What if, he hadn't meant it in an accusatory sense, but was from a government, willing to sponser him?

This closed down his face.

"Are you?"

NinetailedNightmare
"Worse." He replied to the final question, eyes closing as he savored this relief. So Redd was right for once. "I'm a writer." Was that a joke? Rather tasteless... He looked pretty serious, though, so who knew.

Talis moved smoothly now, his steps a little too long and graceful to belong to the average mass-lumberer. Needless to say, it didn't take him long to reach the desk. He stood stiffly before it, looking appraisingly across at Shy.

"My name is Talis Reingahmt, but you may call me Talis. Not 'sir' and certainly not 'Mr. Reingahmt'- you'll only end up hurting yourself." The jar was then unceremoniously placed atop the desk, the contents inside seeming to almost freeze now. "I'm sure you know what I'm here for, so if it's all the same to you I'll skip the rest of the formalities so you can begin to explain." Blunt little b*****d, wasn't he?

Of course, this called for some rude retaliation and he obviously expected it. However, his face remained cold and blank.

naeodin
But Shy had such a little weakness for blunt little bastards! Especially the ones who wore glasses and happened to be so domineering. It was a deadly weakness-- he could be so illogical sometimes.

"Please, take a seat." he said, motioning. "If you've been given the jar containing the holly, then you can expect that in a couple of days, to find a child fae in the room. They do reincarnate themselves from this jar, so please do not place it in such an awkward position." he was a little bit distressed, ever since that stupid girl had kept hers in the oven for safe keeping. "The fae, or sidhe, which ever you perfer--" he retold the story. How a long time ago they had been powerful, but then reduced to tiny faeries and it was his job to bring them back to power. He smiled during the telling, gesturing his arms and frowned.

"Do you know how to care for a child?" he asked. He himself did not know much, and so he was a little bit more sensitive now to the needs of children.

NinetailedNightmare
Talis eyed the chair somewhat distastefully, but the other looked like he was preparing for something particularly long. He drew out a chair and sat, sliding all the way to the edge so his back didn't have the privilege to rest against the back of the chair. His posture was excellent, at least.

As Shy mentioned the conditions of the jar, he glanced to it. That shapeless glob was supposed to be powerful? It wasn't hard to tell that he had some doubts, but he was still polite enough to hold his tongue. He couldn't help but think of Redd when he mentioned odd places. She'd shaken the thing up, she'd said.

"Honestly?" He was going to be honest about it anyways. "I hate children. So no, I have no prior training in taking care of them. However, over the past few weeks two wards have been shoved into my lap, so what difference is another one going to make? Maybe if I'm lucky, this one will eat one of them for me." He was so nice, wasn't he? But then, on a more serious note. "I have people to help me out when I don't know what to do. Prior experience is much more useful than a manual." God knows he needed to waste the money on that.

naeodin
((scanned Holly's image and flood filled it~~))

The doubt in Talis' eyes didn't bother Shy. In fact, it made him feel a little bit more sadistic and proud, because he knew that whatever the jar contained, it would prove Talis wrong.

The man was curious, and Shy didn't know enough about human beings to sense subtle undercurrents, but he still wanted to know more. What sort of home was the fae going to go into, and who was going to survive?

Well, Shy knew who. But he wanted to know to what extent the other members were going to be able to retain freedom.

Fae could be such silly, arrogant creatures.

"If you ever have any questions." he said smoothly. "You can contact me through post, email, handphone" he tugged at a card he kept in a small silver box on his desk. Well, he had to keep himself updated with the technology. "Magic" he continued. "Doesn't work quite as well inside here. " he looked up. "A precaution for the younger fae, of course."

He frowned.

"Once the child comes into power, they may be a little bit dangerous," he said simply.

NinetailedNightmare
"Dangerous?" He repeated, a slow, feral grin managing to touch his lips for a moment. "I don't believe it'll be too much of a problem." He didn't seem to be willing to add on to this. After all, a lab was a lab, government sponsored or not.

Talis thought this mention of magic over and plucked the card gingerly from the other's hand. "I'll keep that in mind, thank you. There's not much to destroy of mine even when it does come to power. And society can take care of itself." In other words, he didn't care if the thing took out its anger on the public... so long as it wasn't traced back to him. They'd have to move again.

Of course Shy wasn't going to know anything else about the man if he didn't ask. Talis was anti-social by nature, after all.

"Is there anything else you'd like to add?" This was a cocky question, a sardonic one that just asked for Shy to try and scare him with talk of these little faeries.

naeodin
Shy smiled. It was almost a beaming smile, because he liked this man. He found it amusing, the man's words and knew he would have some fun keeping track of this one.

"Nothing else." he said sweetly.

He did have a weakness for dominant, scary people. It was creepy.

"You'll have to come back, once it's a child." he said, inclining his head at the jar. "Three times a week, for medical checkups."

It was supposed to be two. Or two and a half, on average.

But he wanted to see more of this group.

He frowned, wondering if there was something else he had missed, and then shook his head.

"I'll get in touch with you." he purred.

NinetailedNightmare
Talis could sense the amusement and his eyes had narrowed craftily, the pupil in the crimson field shrinking momentarily. It confused him somewhat, but he quickly brushed the issue aside. He was to be put under a microscope more than this faery would be and that annoyed him to a point.

"Hn." His tongue swept thoughtfully across his lips out of habit, considering the thought of coming in three times a week. "I'll be sure to jot it down in my planner." Sarcasm. a*****e.

He swept to his feet easily seeing as he didn't have to scoot forward anymore in his chair. His pale fingers wrapped about the jar once more, well-manicured nails clinking lightly against the glass as he lifted it. "Thank you for your time." He merely replied to the purr, turning away nonchalantly.

Three days. That was just begging Ebony to lean over his shoulder every waking moment with a rider's crop. Figuratively, of course. If she really did that he'd go back to playing the violin for the rich, country-club snobs. That got him less lip as well as a free meal.

He slipped out of the door without a backwards glance. He didn't even have the courtesy to shut it behind himself.

What Talis does with his jar was none of Shy's business. In fact, it was no one's business except for the jar, because somehow, it'll have to figure out a way to break without hurting the occupant inside.

After picking up the two brats from Kyo after another day, Talis comes home to find that the jar is exactly where he left it, except in a different form. Shattered with thousands of shards of glads spread out in a wide diameter, it will be impossible to clean up every speck of glass in under an hour.

What is more surprising though, is the sullen, sulky and very very angry looking girl glaring daggers at Talis from the middle of the circumference. In fact, she looks dangerous. One eye red and one eye green, her hair is fascinatingly long, covering up and giving her a sense of decency. With mossy green skin and scarlet hair, she holds no holly. But does she really need to? It's obvious what she's from.

And she's pissed. Pissed in the 'how dare you leave me alone by myself' as well as the 'I just hatched, sort of, and you weren't there to ooh and ah! Do you know I had to sit here because I would have hurt myself otherwise, and now I'm bored to tears?'

Talk about Christmas Cheer.

I came home a little late today, seeing as it was Christmas and a 'family' time. Which meant Ebony locked the doors and turned the lights up high in Kyo's apartment after I came to collect the kids. Nothing too much. We all watched Kaze open presents with his teeth and toes. He's still young enough to enjoy that sort of thing. Dionaea and Avarice got away with a few things too ((but for the love of this being focused on Noelle, we'll just leave it at that)).

The key rattled against the lock as he inserted and forcefully wrenched it open. He himself was in no great mood. A baby boy no bigger than a puppy clung to the lapels of his jacket, screaming bloody murder in his ear. He'd had to haul this particular jacket to the cleaners four times this week thanks to this particular child. From the way he paused in his screaming and began to retch, it sounded like it was going to be a fifth. Honestly. Blood-spatter was a lot easier to avoid than this.

Quickly, Talis plucked the fir-haired child from his jacket and held him at arm's length, closing his eyes to lessen the pressure behind them. The smell of bile reached his nose before it hit the concrete overhang that made up the hall outside the row of second-floor apartments. That was fine. The landlord could see that that got cleaned up and it was no money out of his pocket.

At least it wasn't Dionaea, the child with the radioactive green hair that hung precariously out of his left jacket pocket. It would have hit the concrete.. then promptly burnt right through.

"Ava?" Asked the child, tilting his head.

"He's fine." Talis stared down at the Shee, who stared back with an innocent smile. Odd how a baby's eyes could contain such a malice, but then again, he'd seen worse. Avarice was tucked into his pocket next to Dion before he turned the door handle and opened the door. However, something made him stop when he'd only opened it a smidgen.

He spun about, placing his back against the door while he held it still with one hand. Closing his eyes, he sniffed. A new scent in the house. Fragrant; one he couldn't place. Someone else was in his house, but it was only one. His nose was not quite as sharp as a dog's, but he could tell this much, and that whomever it was wasn't moving. Were they waiting for him to come in?

Down the lane, an old woman with cat-in-arms stared oddly at him.

This is probably why she was so mad to see me.

Talis pushed open the door a little more, just enough to be able to look in. It was still dim in the room. He still had the home advantage. No one was in the entrance hall, so he silently slid in, nudging the door shut with his foot.

He'd snuck into the kitchen to grab a worthy knife when he'd spotted her, glaring him down across a field of broken glass. Needless to say he was relieved.

"Why hello there," He purred softly, though his eyes were narrowing from the look she was giving him. "You gave me quite a scare."

She sniffed contemptuously, tossing her head. She hadn't understood him as much as she'd have liked to, but she didn't his neutral tone at all. How rude.

"Stay right there. I'll be right back." As if she could go anywhere! No use in letting the boys see this much of her, though. He left them in his room and then checked the linen closet. Most of this was bear save for shower towels. He drew from the back an unopened pack of bedsheets, which he'd been planning to use when he took his current ones down to wash in the resident's washing machine.

They were scarlet, 100-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets and had cost a little extra to obtain. With his settling down, he most likely thought he didn't have to be so cheap anymore. He ripped out the largest sheet he could find and returned to the kitchen.

He eyed the glass on the floor carefully before simply walking across it, the glass crunching harmlessly beneath his dress shoes just as it would any other type of shoe.

"Get up." He told her, then gestured. "Up."

Her mismatched eyes flashed momentarily, storing these words. By the time she had managed to get her limbs to work, however, he had reached the outside of her protective circle and stood towering before her. Her head was ducked, hair still covering the chest that wasn't yet full enough to be referred to as 'indecent' as well as her other parts. He opened the sheet and wrapped it about her naked body.

"I am Talis." He told her steadily, then sounded the name out for her. "And Talis means me. Let's have a look at you." He crouched, tilting her chin up so she could stare right back up into his own unearthly shade of eyes.

She backhanded him. Right across the mouth. Her hands then scrambled to grab at his hair, to mess up the almost perfectly-shaped black strands. How /dare/ he act as if she was okay with him leaving her all alone!

His hands easily and forcefully pinned her arms to her sides before she could reach his hair, rendering them useless. And now she was screaming and yelling at him, howling something he could not translate but it was still the thought that counted, right? Her teeth snapped viscously, just before his nonchalant face.

It took her five minutes or so to stop, and by then her shoulders were trembling violently with the indigence, heaving. Her 'huff-and-puff' stage. He let her go; she didn't move.

He wanted to snap her in half, but at the same time he was eager to get her bundled up and put to bed. Was that possible? To already have some semblance of affection to one who would have surely ran his face through the glass shards if she had possessed the power to?

"I think I'll call you... Noelle." Talis mused down at her, before he wrapped his arms around her lower half and hoisted her up. She slumped against his shoulder, defeated. Working to get out of the jar had really taken its toll on her. This warmth was nice enough to allow her to shut her eyes, to try and find a distinct pattern in the crunching glass on which he made his way across once more.

'Noelle', huh? She sniffed. It'd have to do for now.

Her hair is a festive red and long. I can already tell that's going to be something time-consuming. Her skin? Green as sin, much like Avarice's hair. Yet she looks at us as if we are the ones with the skin condition. She's sleeping now, curled up in my bed, which means I'll be sleeping on the couch tonight. I've decided to name her Noelle, a feminine name in hopes it'll humble her. Then again, she's a woman-in-training if I've ever seen one.

Note to self: If I ever go back to violence, Redd is to be the first to go. Hopefully by then all of her brats will have grown up and left her.

The boys are inspecting her now as she sleeps, playing some sort of game in her hair. I suppose my first chore is to get her something decent to wear, because this city make accept her coloring, but they certainly won't like her going 'sprite' down the streets no matter how young she is or how long her hair is.

When I said I needed to go get something decent for Noelle to wear, I was thinking of leaving all three of them at Kyo's and then taking Kyo with me to help pick something out. How was I supposed to know Ebony was perfect at just about everything except child-care?

With that in mind, I'd rather just not go at all but...

"I bet you never thought you'd someday end up here."

"Not with /you/ I didn't."

Why was he always so hostile around her?

The young, white-haired woman smiled at him from across the rack, her blue eyes alight with mirth that suggested she took no offense in his retort. She had accompanied him in his search for clothes when Kyo had politely declined his offer and called upon her instead.

'Why couldn't Kyo come?' His mind asked, even though he already knew the answer.

Kyo was babysitting the kids again, no doubt trying to get along with Noelle seeing as the girl hadn't been too ecstatic to see her or be left by Talis so early on.

'Then how about Redd?'

Please. That woman would have sooner just painted clothes onto her than spend any extra money out of her pocket. That might have been a little harsh, but it was his personal feelings on her.

So he was stuck with Ebony, his respective boss as well as his arch nemesis.

"What color did you say her eyes were?"

"Red and green." He replied, holding up an outfit questioningly. She quickly plucked it from his grasp and put it back on the rack, taking him by the tie and leading him on to the next rack.

"Alright, so the best colors to get would be red, dark green, black, gold, and white." She muttered to herself, letting him go to shuffle through the newest rack.

"Black?"

"Did I say black?" She frowned thoughtfully, then glanced to him. "You can't put black on a child, Talis. Scratch black." b***h. "How about this one?"

"No, I don't think so." He replied, taking the outfit from her and re-hanging it.

Still, Ebony came along and 'helped' me pick out a few suitable clothes to bring to Noelle.

She was pouting on the couch when we finally returned, picking at what I believe to be called 'succotash'*. For a moment, I thought she was going to shove the plate at Kyo and try to impale me with the fork, but for once she was docile and allowed us to hold up the choices for her.

The idea of a present seemed to lighten her foul mood greatly, and she made short work of picking out which of what we'd bought she liked best. It was probably the most ornate thing in there- a white dress with golden trim I suppose was left over from the holiday rush (everything else was pretty plain, seeing as Ebony couldn't agree with one damn thing I picked out and none of her choices were all that great either). It's a little long, but she should grow into it soon enough. Hopefully.

Footnote:
Succotash- A meddly of vegetables. Usually peas, carrots, corn, and lima beans (at least that was how my mom made it).

Quote:
To Noelle's Guardian:

Please bring the child for a checkup tomorrow afternoon, at 5.pm.

An orderly will come with directions at 4.30pm.

Shy from Zero Three Zero.

Tomorrow at 4.30pm, a tall, slightly unusual looking figure in a white labcoat will come to fetch both of you! What do they look like? How do you go to the large white domed lab?

Please post this and some more information in your journal, because your fae will be having their first checkup!

The main purpose is to determine certain unusual characteristics apparant from birth, as well as to give you, their guardian a little bit control on their quirks! Also, this is when your fae will meet their future tutor for the first time-- so a lot of things will happen!

He was tall indeed, and gangly to boot. His eyes were a hazy green, the type you'd see in a more cloudy emerald, and shaded behind a pair of sunglasses. Surely this was to hide the majority of freckles that were attacking his nose, Talis thought to himself, or to suggest that he was actually a 'cool' kind of person.

Talis silently agreed when Noelle sniffed beside him.

"Heeey," Began the orange-haired assistant, casually flicking the lapels of his white coat. "You must be Talis?"

"You must be the saddest impression I've seen of the Fonz." Retorted the darker, pressing his glasses a little farther up his nose. "But yes, I am Talis. This is Noelle."

"Hey Noelle, are you ready to go out on an adventure?" He asked her, crouching down.

"Careful," Talis advised, though he didn't appear too worried. "She bites. Hard."

"No, no, not her. This is the Holly one, right?" And that was about the point she spit on him, hitting him on the right lens of his sunglasses with a rather unladylike luggie that eventually dribbled down his cheek as well.

"That's right." Talis sneered, placing a hand atop her head. "Isn't she cute?"

"Adorable." The red-head replied with a twitchy grin. He'd taken his sunglasses off to wipe some of the spit off into a tiny container, then the rest off onto his coat. "Let's go then, you two. We've got a car."

In the meantime, he flipped through a tiny notepad and scribbled a few notes. Fonzie was a weirdo.

The car was sleek, white, and probably some sort of environmental-friendly hybrid. The young man opened the door for them, first Noelle sliding in, then Talis.

The car took turns down roads he hadn't even thought of, and they were at the domed house in no time. The nameless helper wasted no time leading them in, taking them through a series of intricate turns before they reached a room, brightly pastel in color.

Talis grimaced. Why did everything have to be so bright? Noelle stood silently at his side, the fabric of her white dress rippling as she lifted her hand and curled her green fingers around his own pale set. It was kind of cold in here. She was barefooted, too. Talis stared at her quietly, scrutinously.

"Please wait right here." The red-head smiled. "The Doctor will be here to deal with you momentarily." And with that, he slipped out of the door.

"Shy, next guest is here to see you."

Shy got up, frowning as he rubbed at the ache on his temple. Maybe they could all grow up without his help and _still_ see him as their revered creator?

Huh...

Pregnancy was making him go crazy again.

"Noelle." Shy knew the names of the fae in an uncanny way. Maybe he had a record device attached to the jars, or maybe it was just luck. But as he stepped out of his large office and and motioned the two figures in, his smile deepened. "You're just gorgeous." he crooned. Dress was a little bit too festive. Wasn't Christmas over?

But he had a sister who clung to Christmas as if her world was based only on that holiday, so he was used to things like this.

"Talis." he purred, smiling. "Welcome back." It was nice to see that this mean man had come back with the girl, and from the sullen look in Noelle's eyes, he knew the life must be... well. Exciting.

He had heard enough from his bitchy servant to know this girl wasn't exactly festive, but she was cute. And Shy was shallow enough that cuteness made up for everything. (Take Talis. Why else would Shy like him so much?)

"Now, Noelle, Talis, please take a seat while I explain why you're here."

And he did. He gave them the whole formality, of the medical evals being in case something went wrong, that Noelle was one day going to become a powerful fae, and in case there was something wrong with her, a special dietry requirement she needed, well. They'd figure it out for her! He told them everything because it was habit. He had the speech memorized by now.

NinetailedNightmare

She studied Shy with her mismatched eyes, studying his tone even more so. At the crooning, she blinked, because she wasn't used to this particular tone. Her lips tightened, her face hardened. She refused to be wooed easily, but it already so obvious that she was susceptible to flattery. Her head turned to Talis as Shy began to explain, but he would not yet simplify it to her understanding. He simply led her to a seat and gestured her down while he himself stood.

Yes, life had been just peachy with Noelle around, that was for sure. She threw tantrums, she tried to tear out his hair constantly, and she didn't want anything to do with her brothers. Most of her day was spent laying on Talis' bed, watching the home-shopping network while Talis tried his best to write in the other children's journals.

They were to examine her. Talis eyes narrowed in an unfriendly manner, but they soon closed. He hated doctors, he hated labs, he hated anything that prodded into one's personal business. He was just a grump in general. If he didn't have his looks, he still had everything else. It wasn't always about the looks, he knew, but it was nice to have them.

"Hn. Well, let's get it over with. Noelle?"

She glanced over at Talis, studying his facial features carefully before nodding. She idly picked at the golden trim of her dress, smug smile soon seeping into her features.

"I am to remain here, correct?" Talis implored. He'd like to watch at least the first check-up.

naeodin
Shy nodded his head. "Two fae will come for Noelle." he said simply. "It is a private evaluation, but none of the fae have been harmed so far." It was as if he was making a joke, somehow. "Now, Princess." he said simply, turning to the red haired child. "You'll be alone for... say, half an hour?"

At that instant, two fae walked into the room. Teenagers, they wore lab coats and one held a clipboard, except they didn't suit it. They didn't belong in the sterilized environment at all.

((You get to generally make their appearance up. Usually people just stick to describing colors and gender. Someone that Noelle either feels uncomfortable around, or will obey. One of them will be her tutor in the futrure ^^))

"You'll be coming with us." the one with the clipboard said.

They didn't introduce themselves. They didn't need to. Their eyes rested on the child, occasionally flickering at Shy to make sure everything was alright.

And the grumpy guardian? He wasn't fae. He wasn't one of them. So he wasn't important.

"Which." Shy said, with pleasure. "Will give us time to catch up!"

Noelle eyed these fae, shoulders tensing and her lower lip jutting out at the thought at having to leave with these... strangers. The first one, the one with the clipboard, was a fae with pale white skin and sharp gray eyes. Atop her head was mass of hair much the same red as Noelle's but perhaps a little lighter in color. It was cleverly formed, that hair, manipulated into a bun on the back of her head and held in place by a decorative stick (to put it bluntly) piercing through the majority of the bun.

The other was a male, his own skin as red as his companion's hair. He was shorter than her, quieter. Next to her he may have seemed like the subordinate, but those glowing yellow eyes were only pretending to play lazy. Odd things, his eyes. There was no white present in his eyes. It was black there, a ring of gold for an iris, and then a black pupil. His hair was hacked short and colored white, shaped to some unsightly style where his bangs were arranged to hang over his right eye and the rest of it to spike up in the back. They were an odd pair of fae, but at least they matched.

She decided she liked their looks well enough to get up, brushing her long hair away from her face. And then, with carefully calculated steps, she strode over to them. She glanced to Shy, smirked, and flipped her hair. Yes, she was a Princess. Well, she knew a compliment when she heard one at least. It wasn't obvious if she understood the meaning or not. Her foot made a casual tapping sound against the floor. She was already impatient to be lead away, to this new place. Talis could fend for himself without her.

"Catch up?" Talis eyed Shy, then turned them downwards to study his nails. No dirt as of yet. Still, they were much more comforting to watch than the look Shy was giving him. Whatever.

naeodin
"Now just follow us." the woman said, smiling a little bit serenely. The man was silent as they led her into a large white room. White walled with harsh lights, it was sterile, cold, but the two fae seemed more comfortable here.

The male fae moved around the room, gathering implements, pointing things out that he needed her to use, to try out. The female fae followed behind, being the one to speak, to tell her, to instruct.

At the end, Noelle was sitting on one of the tables, waiting as the female fae finished jotting down that last bit.

"Will you run this through the system?" she murmured to the male fae, and he only nodded. Turning back to Noelle with a slight smile, she walked over to a tiny chest, no larger than a child's toy. Unlocking it, she placed it in front of Noelle.

"It's a gift." she said. "From us. A token? For your first visit."

Inside, there was...
A candy wrapped in colorful paper
An arrowhead stub
A coin
A ribbon
A feather

"Just one though." she cautioned. "Need to save the rest for the other children, yes?"

***

Meanwhile, out in the other room, in the privacy Shy was being coy, cloying, annoying, and everything else that could describe a sly pregnant man intent on either suicide, or something else.

Something more dangerous.

NinetailedNightmare

She eyed all of these gifts with great delight, happy to be receiving a present for tolerating all the tests. She dwindled for a bit, because there was some indecision.

In the company of Shy, Talis seemed to be ignoring most of what the other said. He wasn't stupid, he knew Shy was looking for some kind of result from him, be it snapping a rude retort or trying to rip his jugular out with his teeth. Hell, maybe the other was looking to get pinned against the wall and dominated- to have those sterile walls dirtied. The Ninetailed Nightmare really had no shame as far as that went.

Whatever it was, Talis refused to budge out of his nonchalant state. He'd been staring at his nails for the whole half hour, polishing them against the front of his suit ever so often and 'Hn'ing an agreement wherever he needed to.

She'd almost grabbed the ribbon, but the decorative candy was what she finally plucked up. She smiled to both fae, content for the moment as she ran her fingers over the nice paper. She'd eat it, later. To the question, she simply nodded, then began to try and wiggle off the table.

naeodin

Shy had somehow, one or the other moved around the room so that he sat next to Talis. How he did it 'naturally' was a question- but it didn't really matter. He stared at Talis' nails, regretted that Christmas had passed and he couldn't give the man pretty nailpolish. Maybe black, or red, or that shiny coral stuff?

Huh.

Sitting there, one hand on Talis' arm, he smiled sweetly. He talked, about nothing particularly important, patting Talis' hair, motioning to the cakes and invading private space as if he had been created to do so.

The female fae smiled. "See you next week, Noelle." she said, and did that wavy thing with her fingers some girls had a habit of doing.

NinetailedNightmare
At the hand on him, he revolted, grabbing both of Shy's hands and placing them in the scientist's lap. A soft growl rumbled in the back of his throat, his nails hooking into the flesh of the other's hands for emphasis. No touchey. And then he pulled away, making his way along the walls away from the other and crossing his arms across his chest. Checking his hair for any misplaced hair. He shook his head at the mention of sweets. Not that he didn't like them -he did, to be truthful- but because the other was way out of his circle of trust. Closer than strangers, but still very far off. Was that why the dark individual smelled like mint all the time?

Noelle nodded, copied the motion, and then headed out towards where she'd originally come from.

"Noelle." He'd never been so relieved to see her. Thank God, they could leave! "..What's that you've got there?" Referring to the candy.

She made a little 'hmph' noise before padding over to him. At least he was the one waiting on /her/ this time. Noelle then gave Shy a bored glance, sniffing at how close he was getting to her guardian and wriggling between them and showing Talis the candy.

"Hn. Candy?"

"Candy." She repeated, then flapped her eyelashes sweetly towards Shy. That was the warning.

naeodin

Shy made googlie eyes right back at Noelle, fingering her hair, combing it out the way you do when long hair was presented for you.

"They keep giving away presents to everyone." he commented. "As if they have to bribe the children to come back."

Someone snorted at the door. Shy never let go of playing with Noelle's hair when the silent fae, the man walked through. He didn't say anything, he didn't need to. The clear question of 'aren't you supposed to be a fraction more professional?' never left his face. Shy reached out with one hand, and the teen transferred the clipboard over.

"Well." Shy said, scanning the masses. There's nothing wrong with Noelle yet. Nothing we have to worry about..." he frowned. Meat? The photosynthesis part was not surprising, but she was clearly something he didn't expect.

Why the meat?

Well, the questions would solve themselves out sooner or later.

"Talis." he said, a little bit more professional but still a bit creepy. "I'm giving you a copy. Whether you follow through with the advice is under your own jurisdiction. But I recommend changing her diet a little bit." he frowned. "Do you have any little pets at home?"

Oh dear. What if she got hungry and tried to eat them? Nah.

"These are bi or trimonthly visits, but eventually you can start sending Noelle by herself, or with another guardian. My men will pick you up in the beginning so that you know the way, but I'm sure you are capable of coming here yourself." he beamed. Talis had done it before.

Tugging out a thin black ribbon from his lab pocket, he tied it to the end of the tiny braid into a percise bow. Well. Shy knew how to do some things correctly.

"I'll see you next week then, precious." he patted her head, walked back over to his desk.

They were dismissed.

NinetailedNightmare

She let it happen. She made a content little sound to it. Maybe this guy wasn't so useless after all. Unlike Talis, she didn't mind people messing with her hair.

"Meat? That's no problem." Not for he who was generally a carnivore and had to raise one as well. He scanned the rest of the card, glancing over towards Noelle. "Oh, I have two baby boys at home, but the majority of them is fat." 'Believe me,' His eyes seemed to say, 'I already thought about that.'

He prodded at the certificate. He wasn't finished yet. "Handling violent abuse? Doesn't that contradict the rest of her stats? Her strength is below average, and the grace average is high, but it says she won't be suited for acts which requires it?" Not that he was suggesting they were wrong. Maybe he'd interpreted it wrong. He was asking for explanation, not argument... for once. If she was weak, she was weak.

naeodin
Shy smiled. "Her strength is below average." he allowed. "But grace and stamina..." he paused, tilting his head. How did you explain something like this? "You can be graceful, in the way you are beautiful." he said. A movement of the arm, a ballet dancer. He opened his own copy. "But you can be graceful, you can have the reflexes to..." he tilted his head. "Perhaps handle is not the right word?
You don't need strength to be durable, to survive. But you need reflexes to know when to escape, the grace to incorporate fluidity into movements so that it is done with ease, as well as ladle violence as well." he frowned. Meat eating, prone to violence?

This is what he got for a Christmas fae?

"She is special." he said, shrugging. "Maybe things will sort themselves out." he beamed.

NinetailedNightmare
"Survival." He mused, reading about that particular line under the metal evaluation. It was puzzling, that one so frail-looking could be impulsive as well. He'd give her that, though, that her movements were not always thought out as carefully as they could have been but they didn't really need to be. She impulsively was able to skirt around any obstacles set before her without really registering it mentally.

"So, you're saying she has all the grace to move away if something struck to harm her, to move, but she couldn't dance very well?" He questioned. That still didn't quite make sense to him, because to dance was to move. Maybe he was just calling her ugly?

He glanced down to her. She wasn't paying any attention to him. His shoulders suddenly swiveled towards her- an offensive move in the wild. She flinched where she stood, stepped away as if she had found something interesting to look at elsewhere. Hm.

naeodin
Shy shrugged. "It's instinct. Although some dancers would say dance was instinct..." he watched her. "I wouldn't put her in a ballet performance, where coordination, agility and control makes up everything. But in something with less control, something where movements didn't matter?" he shrugged. "Dance is up to interpretation."

Shy frowned at that action, but the worry eased.

He knew, that Noelle would get back at Talis sooner or later.

It was just one of those things.

NinetailedNightmare
"It was just and an example." He informed the other, shrugging. He was pleased with the reaction in Noelle and he made no look to Shy that made him look very sorry that he'd tested her. Because he wasn't sorry. If Shy didn't like it, he could take the fae away. No skin off of his back.
"Once more, thank you for your time. Good day. Noelle."

The holly fae harumphed, but came back to him soon enough. She smiled up at him sweetly, snatching his hand and beginning to lead him out. How sweet. Something silver trickled around her fingers, a drop spattering the floor near the door they exited from. Talis. His fingers were bleeding and her fingernails were digging in. Yes, she was vengeful, and she did it with a sweet little giggle.

Talis didn't seem to mind all that much, but he did halt her to take a handkerchief out of his pocket and mop up the silver blood from the nice, clean floor. Paranoid about labs to the end. And then they were pretty much gone. Talis snorted at Ruveila as he passed her.

Noelle met the other experiments today and I'm surprised to say she melded rather well into the group. She is a pompous brat who clearly states herself as a leader before her peers. Should I be proud that she teaches them such crude habits like drawing on the walls? Maybe I should have stopped her from ruining the room, because I was sitting there the whole time. Then again, I'm not payed to keep the little test-tube babies in line or crayon marks off the wall. So long as that sort of thing stays outside of this apartment, it's not my problem.

Noelle has also made it clear that she'll fight anyone even though they're clearly older than her. The fool. She has guts indeed, but what will she do when all of them get splayed upon the floor? Some day, if she stays like this, everything will all circle back on her. That's the law of karma... Bullshit. She clearly has power in her, so perhaps this little hostile trait of hers will work out in the end. Of course, the males still bear competition her way, but thus far all I've seen the other girl do is scribble on the wall as well. Ritsuki is too much of a simpleton to gain anything useful, I'd say. Noelle must consider her an underling.

The rest of the participants in this mandatory meeting were males, of which there were four. Even these she could make join in her little art excursion, save for the boy Noelle later muttered to me as 'Sethos'. A sand child if I'd ever seen one. He challenged her and she very well tried to fight him. However, some little red-headed boy found it convenient to stop it before it even really began. Sethos has already gained this acclaimed 'power' that Shy mentioned, because he was able to toss some sand at the wall and erase whatever Noelle was working on.

As if that wasn't enough, she tackled a black-skinned boy with no taste in the cut of his steak. I'd like to be flattered that she did it because he stained the dress I'd gotten for her, but there's always the possibility that she was just looking for another reason to fight. The kid somehow got out of it. I suppose they might be friends. After that ordeal I thought it'd be the proper time to leave before she caused some sort of serious damage.

She really hasn't said a word, as if it didn't even happen. Maybe she forgot. Children are confusing things to figure out, I think, because their actions and thoughts are not entirely predictable yet. Noelle just lies on the bed, batting her lashes up at the trinkets they're showing off on the home shopping network as if they'll be coaxed right off the screen. I'll leave her like that, because she's apparently uninteresting in relaying to me what I've already seen.

It seems Noelle did indeed hold a fondness for her first play-date, because today she thought it fit to take it out on me. Maybe if she'd listened to the lessons I give both she and Dionaea every night she could write as well as he could. And speak better, too. Kyo will work with her after this play-date, though, so her tutors will no longer have to come lurking about telling me how bad of a guardian I am. Lazy teenagers.

She asked me -or told me, rather- to write out invites for her guests, of which there are three. I wrote them, I've sent them, and all there is now is to wait for the day to come. She should be able to have a day of play before she begins some serious studying, I suppose. If there's anyone who can cram information into her head, it'll be Kyo. I just quite frankly don't have the time. I'm not going back to entertaining just to raise three kids who will soon be able to care of themselves.

Never again will I allow myself to take a nap while Noelle is still in my house. I'm only writing because if I don't, I'll kill her and serve her as stew to the other brats.
---

"...Whatcha doin' No-no?" The golden eyes were without a doubt curious as to just what his green sister was up to.

"Shoo, Dee-oh-nay-yah." Noelle said the name slowly, in parts, making sure to make each syllable sound just as silly as the last one. She was mocking him; warning him.

Talis, in the meantime, lay stretched on his belly with his black hair unbound and flowing against his back. They were on his bed, all four of them, while the television went on in the background.

'And here we have a gentlemen's ring with a yellow diamond...' Drawled the voice of the television show hostess. For the moment she was ignored as three rather deviant children -two boys and Noelle- leaned over the sleeping form of their guardian. His face was buried into his pillow, as if he knew they were coming, yet he breathed softly with the evidence of sleep.

"What /are/ you doing?" Avarice persisted, looking down at her progress so far.

"If you must know," Noelle replied haughtily. "It's called 'braiding'. It's a sort of hair style for long hair. Shy did it to my hair once and I liked it. Tali is always wearing his hair in the same style. I think he'll like the change."

"Really?" Dionaea asked suspiciously, randomly fluttering his fly-like wings. "Maybe we should ask him."

"You'd wake him up just for /that/?" Avarice, the youngest of all three but clearly the leader of his brother, shared a momentary 'look' with Noelle. "I think he'd be more mad if you woke him up from his nap. He works, ya know?"

Dionaea nodded, absorbed in watching Noelle weave the shadowy hair into tight braids. "Maybe... I can help? Noelle, can I help?"

Noelle tossed her head, sniffing softly. "I suppose. You do that side. Get to work, Avarice."

"You're not the boss of me." He told her with a smirk, reveling in the moment as her face faltered for a moment as well as her movement. "But I will. Cuz I'm bored."

The girl glared daggers at him openly, before her face regained its composure. She's maim him if it wouldn't wake Talis up.
---

Braids. She braided my hair. I didn't even wake up for another few hours, so it was what they refer to as 'crimped' when I undid it all. Who knows what else she might have done while I was asleep...
---

"Oh! Go for that one, Noelle!" Avarice had never really been very nice to women, which he picked up from his Tali-dearest, but now he was clinging to his sister's shoulder and pointing frantically to the television.

'Isn't it beeaautiful?' Asked the hostess, flashing her wares appealingly to the audience. It was sparkly alright, and that was all it needed to be for him.

Noelle sat on the edge of the bed with the cordless phone in her hand, staring up with her full attention to the tv as well. Dionaea dozed cuddled up next to the unknowing Talis at the moment, thus leaving the other two to fantasize. Noelle managed to punch in the right keys on the phone after a while.

"QVC! How can I help you?" Chimed the saleswoman on the other end.

"Home shopping?"

"That's right, ma'am. How can I help you?"

"I want to buy something."

"Mhm. What was it?"

"A ring."

"Item number?"

"I didn't see a number."

"That's okay, ma'am, can you describe it?"

"It was white and shiney..."

"Tell her it's the one with the stones."

"With the stones? You just had it on a minute ago."

"Uh huh. Credit card?"

"Hold on." Noelle clapped her hand over the mouthpiece, looking frantically to Avarice. "Do you have a credit card? What's a credit card?"

"Plastic." He informed her, then shook his head. "I don't think Talis has any either..."

"We don't have a credit ca-"

The dial-tone disconnected.
---

Everything in the house seems to be in tact, even the boys. I still have my doubts.
---

"You try it on now, Noelle." Avarice urged, flashing a grin between he and Dionaea. "You'll look most like him. You've got the hair."

"This thing is heavy." Noelle mumbled as she shoved her arm through the business coat's left sleeve. The silk lining was rather nice, she'd admit, and the thing was warm. As she fully slid on the jacket, she turned up the collars and breathed in through her nose. Mint and... something else. It was his smell and, though she wouldn't openly admit it, she was a bit partial to it. "How do I look?"

The boys laughed, though more so at the way the coat just sort of swallowed her than anything. No matter how tough she tried to act, Noelle couldn't fight genetics. The coat was built for slender shoulders, yes, but hers were still far too small to fit. All of them were too small to fit at the moment.
---

I guess that so long as nothing is wrong at the moment, there's nothing I can do. It's not as if her siblings will breathe a word. And that's good too, I suppose, if one enjoyed 'family' values. The hair will be back to normal after some thorough brushing.
---

"Spring is coming around, we'll have to cut off some of this hair." Talis noted as Noelle pushed herself into his lap and shoved her personal comb roughly into his chest. As soon as he took it from her, she turned her back to him and brushed all of those scarlet strands over her shoulders. She said nothing in return to his comment, just waited with waning patience.

Talis reached out and combed through her hair in parts, brushing out tangles when they appeared.

"How short?"

"However short you want it, I suppose. At least shoulder-length."

"Are you getting your hair cut?"

"No. It's fine as it is. Besides, it'd just grow back in about five minutes."

"Why?"

"Just the way I am. When I want it shorter, it'll be shorter. I don't want it shorter."

"Did you... have a nice nap?"

"Hn! If you do it again, I'll really give your teachers something to whine about." He warned, staring steadily as she turned about and put her arms around his waist. That'd shut him up for a minute.

"It looked so pretty!" She said with an underlying tone of mischief. "I won't mess with your hair again."

"What else have you been up to?" Noelle didn't just randomly hug him. He wasn't going to fall for this act.

"Why do you say that? Nothing. I didn't do anything."

Maybe she was telling the truth. But then... Talis slowly wrapped his arms around the little girl, setting the brush aside as he did. "Noelle?" He implored softly, though the tone was just too... unstable. She shuddered uncertainly, but she wasn't really afraid. Not of him. "Where's my coat?"

Quote:
Dear friends - Fellow 030,

T'is I, Cheetah Rodin! I'm the uncle of Tybalt and Romeo. I'm happy to say that I have a bit of a party planned! Ya see, Jerod's off at a meeting, and it'll take all week. He left me and the boys in charge of the house in the forest for that long, and I hereby invite you to come join us! Food will be provided, and there's going to be entertainment, as well as party-favors. Please RSVP, and come if you can! There's a map attached that tells you how to get to the place from 030 HQ. It's about a hour's drive.

See you there!
Cheetah

Talis scowled down at the letter, as if by doing so would dematerialize the thing and he'd no longer have to worry. He was outside, flipping through the mail to decide on what he'd bring up and what he'd trash. This looked like a trash thing. However, before he could find the shadow to toss it in...

"The mail! The maaaaail!" Two male voices that didn't really match each other in unison made Talis cringe and hunch slightly over his find, attempting to tuck it into his coat before...

"Mine? Did I get any mail today?" Avarice asked, gingerly head-butting his guardian's hip. "How 'bout now? Huh?"

"Tali~ How about me?" Dionaea tugged at the bottom of his coat imploringly, staring up with large golden eyes at Talis.

"No. You didn't get anything." He told the two boys, swiveling on his heel back towards the house. "Get back inside. You're embarrassing yourselves."

"Okay!" Dion pipped, grabbing his brother's arm. "Come on, Ava, I'll write you a letter!"

Phew. And so off went the twins...

She came upon the stair with the utmost grace, and made her way down in slow, deliberate steps. She noticed Talis' scowl and smirked. So, there was something for her? "What about me, Father?" The redhead questioned sweetly, placing her tiny fingers upon his arms as she tried to stand on her tip-toes and see.

"Nothing for you." Talis told her harshly, snarling softly when she plucked the letter from his hands and began to read. She could read rather well at this point... but she did have to squint at Cheetah's handwriting.

"Who is Romeo and Tybalt?" He questioned her, folding his arms across his chest. "You've never mentioned them."

"Cats. They're like cats..." Noelle hummed at him, smiling to herself. A party! Well... She just may attend to liven it up. "You're taking me."

"I will not."

Her mismatched eyes flashed, raising to meet his crimson eyes. "You will. Or I'll cause a scene out here."

"I'll leave you to it." He told her with an arched brow, tilting his chin upwards as a sign of superiority. "Your little threats don't scare me. Don't think you can bully me into everything. I don't have to keep you around. I just don't know who'd take you if they knew what a little brat you were." Oh yes, he'd said it. Talis had no shame, even when it came to scaring children. Hell, he'd eaten a few in those good old days.

"Why do you say mean things to me?" She asked, face suddenly faltering and dropping into a hurt one. She lowered her hands from his arms, her own little skinny arms barely able to wrap around his waist. "You'd throw me away? Don't you love me?"

Talis stiffened at this, though stared down at her with a blank face. So, she was damn good at this. He could feel and odd sense of pride bubbling up within him. "What're you going to do for me?" He wouldn't let her off for free.

Her face suddenly shifted and picked up into an excited smile. "So you'll take me? Oh thank you, Talis! I'll make it up to you!" She squealed, nuzzling into his chest so she could hide her triumphant grin. She'd probably try and wiggle her way out of the favor too, when it came around. She was a bit disappointed, however, that he hadn't fallen for it.

"Good. Now... Let go of me. And get inside the house."
