"I...I do eat fish," he said, and winced, half-afraid the strange wolf might attack him -- but when she continued to speak, he was relieved. "There wasn't much other game, where I lived," he explained, "So we ate fish, mostly. Considered it the gift from the goddess, to sustain us."
He shrugged, glancing down at the water almost reflexively, seeing no fish immediately beneath the surface -- they were probably frightened away by Abyss. "She said they were helpless and somebody had to stand up for them. It all seemed very noble at the time. Maybe a little kooky, but terribly noble." He smiled then, in a disarming sort of way, and realized that he felt quite at ease. "So...tell me about your pack." He was interested in such things -- he was intensely curious about how other wolves lived and conducted their affairs.

"Nobility doesn't always make sense at times." She said idly as she looked at the water, though much like Kai she saw no fish within the river at this time. Perhaps it was for the best, after all she probably would yell at him for disturbing the water in order to catch a fish. And yet, what he said only left her with more questions to ask. But those were things she could ask about later, perhaps if she met him again, best not to bog him down with questions right now.
"Well, the Realm is not that much different from most packs." She began, though honestly Abyss' knowledge of other packs was pretty slim. "Though we don't eat any fish, like your old pack." Falling into a moment of silence Abyss considered just what to tell him. "We are rebuilding after a war pulled us apart. The pack is still yet a bit small, and we have a few utterly useless members to it." Like her half-brother Crabclaw and that fool Pumpkinhead. "But what pack isn't bogged down by a few members like that. Our Alpha's an an interesting pair, one is stern and the other laid back."

"I see." He tilted his head, watching her thoughtfully. She may not think her pack was very strange, but to Kai, everything she said was fascinating. "Oh, you have two alphas?" He asked, interest piqued. "We only had our king, my father. He had a small harem of females -- like my mother, of course -- and they were higher ranking than any of the other females in the pack, but they weren't allowed to do much in the way of pack politics. Father always said females were too emotional to govern affairs of state."
At this he looked at the ground, somewhat abashed, and added hurriedly, "But no offense! I don't believe that. I've met some very strong females, quite as worthy as males, stronger in some cases than even our greatest warriors. Just another of those places where Father and I disagreed."
