"No, nothing's wrong," he said, nodding to the rustling trees, "Look, they're here." Jitokeza felt some relief, he would have felt bad getting her all the way out here just to find .. nothing. He picked up the pace, though he tried not to make too much noise. He stopped when he came into a small clearing in the trees, and then he looked up. There were some very colorful birds, not just singing but hopping around.

Anjali scooted up to keep up with him, a little surprised at his sudden haste. She didn't blame him at all, keeping herself quiet as the sounds of the birds grew louder. There had been hints of them between some of the branches and leaves in the trees, but one she had hit the clearing, she realized she hadn't seen anything in comparison to now.
She felt herself gasp, quickly muting herself as she looked around. The birds seemed awake of their presence, but as the lions were only observing, keeping still, they seemed content. Anjali could only guess, as she had never before taken the time to bird-watch. Now she could feel herself regretting it a little. Snuffing out those negative feelings she let herself gasp one word.
"Wow."

Jitokeza sat himself down and curled his tail around his feet, getting comfortable where he was. He looked down from the birds to Anjali, smiling.
"It's nice to just stop and watch sometimes, isn't it?" he said in a hushed voice, taking from her reaction that she probably didn't just stop and appreciate things like this often. He looked back up to the birds, watching them shuffle around and sing to each other.

Anjali felt a little embarassed. Which, for her, was a little unusual as she usually took everything in stride. She glanced down at the mud a little bit, her toes caked around the edges with the dried mess. She glanced back up at the birds, letting herself sit down as well.
"Yeah, I um...I don't really do this too often," she replied quietly, though perhaps not for the birds' sake. "I'm the kind of girl that just runs head first, not taking the time to look at things." She felt a little silly, even if she was enjoying the parade of birds in the trees, ignorant to her feelings.

"Ah," he said, keeping his eyes up at the birds. He was never like that but this wasn't always what he was like either. The cubs were a big part in stopping to figure things out because they always had questions and then the pride-wide paranoia made it necessary at one point.. but he would like to have something to do and the confidence to just go do it, which is how he supposed you'd usually going about just rushing through things.
"I'm sure that's fun, too," he said, "Maybe some of both, sometimes."

"Maybe!" she agreed, though she felt like perhaps he was just being nice. And he was really nice. Anjali had taken the time to notice that. "Ummm..." Why was she feeling so shy? They were just birds, really, but she couldn't quite pin-point it down. She didn't like feeling like this, and sort of wanted to get out of it without being rude. Then an idea popped in her head.
"Hey, it's later now, maybe we should go back and see if anyone's brought in some breakfast?" Maybe, if anyone got up yet, which might be possible. "If not, maybe we could go catch something ourselves to bring back." See, she wasn't avoiding him if she was inviting him to go on a hunt. Once she felt like she was doing normal things, she wouldn't be feeling all weird anymore. It was probably just the colours of the birds that were throwing her off.

Jitokeza kept his eyes on the birds as Anjali suggested that they go see if there was any breakfast around. They were becoming more aware of their audience and the show wouldn't last much longer anyway. It was a little weird to be sitting here like this, it wasn't the same as showing a cub but it was special to him. And he hadn't really aimed to show her anything just anybody could show her. It was nice, he was still appreciating that he didn't have to travel in a group. He was starting like it didn't take much to make him feel at home again.
"That sounds like a good idea," he said, finally looking back down to Anjali and smiling. He pushed himself back up to his feet, shaking off some of the dirt that stuck to him.

Anjali flashed a smile back, jumping onto her toes. She twitched her tail, feeling the wetness of the ground making it heavier. She was able to sling a little of the mud off, but the rest was adamant that it wasn't going anywhere. Oh well, maybe it would fall off if they needed to hunt. She should get used to it, anyway. Some of the cubs around here were a lot more muddy than she could get!
"Awesome!" she chirped up. "Maybe you should lead the way again, though I think I'm getting the hang of this route." She curled her tail around her back leg, waiting for him to take the first step, and she would walk with him this time. Not follow.

"Alright," he said, getting himself turned around right and then smiling at Anjali, "But next time, that's your job." There didn't have to be a next time, it was more of a vote of confidence in her ability to remember her way around the swamp. He was pleased that when he started to walk, though, that she kept up with him instead of staying a step behind.

Anjali chuckled. "Okay, next time I'll lead. Though if I start out that way, we might get ourselves lost!"
And actually, Anjali wouldn't really mind that.
