That was it. Hands down, that was it. "Audrey." A tone of pure seriousness filled the room. It was the kind of tone you took when telling someone the worst news ever. "I think we have to end it now."
He pulled off his jacket from her. She looked stunned. "I will bribe National Guard so we can leave the city. Vegas is just a few day's drive." What. "I will kidnap you and marry you if you keep this up. You're going to kill me Audrey." He wasn't leave her. Hardly. If he was leaving it would be with her. Her and her way of saying just the right things. "Red wine sauce? Mushrooms? I am dying a slow death." Going to the fridge it didn't take him long to find the needed ingredients. For one second, he debated about the alcohol. Then the idea was dismissed. Getting drunk was fun, sure, but with Audrey? No. Just no. Besides, it was asking for trouble, the kind he didn't want.
"Do you want to turn on the radio? Unless you want me talking like a moron all night." He was hunting for the pots and pans. "You know I will." Bingo! He'd found what he needed. Or what he thought he needed. Marlo cooked more then he did. He could do pasta and...pasta. Home Ec was just a boring class. Always had been always would be. "As for your outfit can I save that and gather interest? Will I someday earn enough vouchers for the ever fabled birthday suit?" That might have earned him the frilly apron. He pouted. "This will cost you at least one hour of snuggling, I hope you know that."

For one whole moment, Audrey was sure that her heart had fallen out through her toes onto the floor below, where Elzo had mercilessly stomped on it. She'd been joking! Really! Blinking just hard enough to fight the tears back (she would not let him see her cry ever again!), the teen opened her mouth to speak when the words 'marry' hit her ears and she settled with a puzzled expression.
"Wouldn't it be faster to fly there? More time for the honeymoon!" Sliding carelessly off the counter, she ducked into the pantry to grab the spices and dry ingredients needed for the sauce, coming back with the sort of lacy apron that would make any fifties housewife jealous. It was something that Audrey's mom traditionally wore for holidays, just as a joke between them all. There was one with deep pockets that she normally wore, spotted and stained and hanging on its hook. She'd never touch it.
"What if I wear it? What do I get for that?" Grinning and taking the pots from Elzo, she put one back and pulled out a large pan for saute, placing it carefully on the stove before tying the apron around her waist and beaming over at her new boyfriend. "Can you fill that three quarters of the way with water?" She waved lightly at the stew pot, already absorbed in what she was doing. Hopefully she remembered right, but it was mostly wine and spices anyway. Hopefully.
Thankfully, Audrey's mother was a chronic overshopper and always had giant cartons of every sort of stock in the fridge. It didn't take long before the water was on the stove and the sauce was taking on a life of its own. Beef stock, good red wine, marsala wine, butter, spices, lots of mushrooms. It had been maybe five or ten minutes before she unfocused enough to speak again, and her cheeks pinked slightly. "I think I just have to wear more clothes if you save up vouchers like that. Besides haven't you uhm...already..." her voice trailed off, remembering that night in Jada's pool.
"My birthday is in November." It was a sheepish smile, and her forehead was slowly turning red as the blush crept up her face at the memory. She'd blocked it out, forgot, been busy. God. He'd seen her naked, and now he was her boyfriend, in her house to stay the night.
Good God this was amazing!

In a way, he felt a little bit awful for joking around about leaving her. Despite what fronts Audrey liked to put up, she was fairly easy to read in some ways. Saying teasingly cruel things was something he'd done for everyone, but when done with her, he got that brief twinge of sadness liked he'd taken things a step too far. But, the smile he got in the end quelled his fears of taking it too far, along with her joking about a possible honeymoon. "A honeymoon? Let's not get ahead of ourselves." She looked adorable. Just pure adorable in the apron. "I can hardly pick the right spot for a picnic, let alone a honeymoon! " Laughed echoed in the once silent home. Amazing what the simple sound of two voice could do. Fill an entire house that had seemed so empty, with life.
The smell of sauce being cooked down also helped. Elzo was in charge of the pasta, Audrey of the sauce. Pasta was a waiting game, so he chose to just wait next to Audrey, occasionally reaching out to tickle at her side. Then the subject of that night came out.
"No lies, I thought I had died and gone to heaven that night. Accidents happen." He kissed her cheek again. He'd lost count already. "It's one accident I can't lie about. I don't regret it. Not one bit." There was a soft smile there, a warm smile. The smile you didn't seem Elzo give when he was joking or playing. It was a true smile. "You're beautiful Audrey. And come November, I'm going to spoil you rotten and show you just how beautiful you re-" He stopped himself. "I shouldn't say it like that. I don't want...that. Not yet. Not unless..." He wasn't sure how to explain it. There were legal reasons he didn't want it. But also emotional ones. "I don't want to make you feel like you have to. Like we need it. I..I don't want to mess this up." It was his turn to wear the blushing crown. "I don't want to mess up like I have in the past."

Turning the sauce on low for a moment, Audrey simply turned and hugged Elzo wordlessly. Truth was, she'd worried. With Khaldun, that was all their relationship had been - a bit of fun in and around the Barren Pines auditorium. In the end, they'd each tried to kill each other as part of the large Negaverse game and it had been the real death of their relationship. It was only in the hospital that Khal had sprouted the balls to officially end it, and now they were friends. Weird friends, but friends nonetheless.
Audrey didn't want that again, so it was unfortunate that she was drawn to the exact same type of boy. One who liked girls, appreciated their bodies, chock full of lewd jokes and overblown compliments. Unfortunate, but she loved it. That was the type of guy she'd hung out with in her fictional Warcraft world, it was the humor she understood. It was just how the bluenette liked it!
So to know that Elzo didn't directly intend to go 'straight for the gold' as it were, was a huge relief to Audrey. That, and she was trying to possibly not look incredibly ashamed and bewildered at the whole thing. Not even Khal had actually called her pretty or beautiful, and it was different coming from girls. "I'm really glad everyone was wrong about you, Elzo. Just so you know." Resting her chin lightly against his breastbone, she smiled and let go, moving back to the sauce. "Besides, we can have several honeymoons. Vegas, the beach, you're from Italy aren't you? I've never been out of the country before. You can take me there." The smile was wide and guileless as the smell of alcohol lit the air as the wine went in, the signal that it was all nearly ready.

Holding her was perhaps, better then the other physical contact he could have desired. The simple affectionate act held meaning, even if minuscule. It held more meaning then late nights and hot bods. Sliding the pasta into the boiling water, it wouldn't take long. Just long enough for him to run his fingers in her hair, kissing her head on occasion. And share a small conversation.
"I'm worried sometimes. That one day I'll go to far and ruin everything." He stirred the pot, just a few minutes until they could eat. "Maybe someday, but when that day comes I think we'll be ready for it...so to speak." He was redder then the wine going into the sauce. "Let's change the subject. Italy. Yes." Was it just her or was he stirring the pasta a bit much? "It's very nice. I'd love to take you. Lord knows my grandmother would adore you, even if my dad might have a heart attack." Dang back to his family. One odd subject to the next. "It's really nice out in the country. Just like the postcards."
The pasta was ready. Straining it of water, he winked. "And the beach we already agreed upon. I'm taking you. Or did you forget that promise already? A few hours drive, I get to rub you down with lotion, have a fight with another guy over you in an epic volleyball contest and in the end we roast marshmallows." He might have already planned half of those activities for that summer. Maybe. Probably.

A fork went into the mushrooms, and a quick puff of air cooled it before it popped into her mouth for a low purr of appreciation....right around the moment Audrey realized something. For the first time, she'd cooked without a recipe. Without measuring carefully, lining everything up, making sense of it all. But it tasted good, so maybe she had more of her mother's skill in her than she thought? Flicking off the burner she moved the sauce and stirred it lightly while shaking her head in negative at Elzo's response.
She didn't choose to comment on his father. The boys did that enough by themselves. Hip bumping him out of the way with another wide smile, Audrey pulled plates and silverware from places she could have found with her eyes closed. It was the ease and familiarity of her home, her mother's kitchen. But the pair acting out the homey ritual of dinner were so young, it was almost out of place. But the emotion was there, and that was the important part.
"Rub me down with lotion? Is that what you will be fighting the other guys for in the volleyball fight? What about the girls that want to rub me down with lotion?" A wink, a twinkle, and maybe for just a second she might have been able to throw Elzo off? Food was dished out, and just for a moment, the bluenette leaned onto the counter and her eyes were distant. "If it's anything like the pictures..I can't imagine. The country out in Kansas is really nice, a lot like where we go, a lot more stars? Less trees? Grasslands. I can't imagine another country like that. But then, I have trouble imagining the beach." But the beach was water, sand, the real beaches were often not different from how you imagined them. Or so she'd been told.
With a shake, she picked up the steaming plates and walked over to the table, shedding her apron and arranging everything perfectly. "So...I guess this is a bit of a celebration? Odd time for it but things aren't always perfect, I guess." The happy smile turned almost incandescent, anyone that knew Audrey would have been stunned by how open and emotive she was being. It just wasn't in her to be so very happy. "Congratulations Elzo."

In the quite semi-abandoned suburbs of Destiny City, two teenagers shared a meal they made together. Outside, where they couldn't see, behind the clouds and the artificial light, there was a star that seemed to shine a tad brighter. And if you looked really hard, you might have able to pick out the constellation and the star that glittered. Somewhere, the namesake to Elzo's senshi name, the origin of his power, his lunar home, seemed a tad brighter. And across the world, a mineral lay on the earth's surface, shining under that tiny speck of light in the night sky, glittering a silent response. Audrey's negaverse identity, shining back in reply to a beloved star.
Neither teenager would know of these minuscule facts, as right then and there, in the tiny kitchen of the Collins home, they only knew of Elzo Xanis and Audrey Collins. The two people who had professed love just miles away, a love that neither would ever forget, was still present. That a love found in a secret war was in fact, now open and shared. Different names, unmasked faces. The love was the same, their hearts were the same. None of it mattered. Nothing else mattered but a those moments in the kitchen. With the smell of red wine lingering the the air, classical rock mixed with laughter echoing in the empty home. Where the light of a star and the glow of a mineral could not shine, two lovers were finally together unmasked and unhindered.
And that was all that mattered to the boy with dark blue eyes and ruffled brown and blonde hair. That was all that mattered to Elzo Xanis.
"Nothing it this world is perfect Audrey." He bent down over her, a soft kiss. A lover's kiss. "Nothing but you."
