Abomasnow is pretty freakin' awesome. It has good defense and very good attacks, plus.. Snow Warning makes it hail, which makes Blizzard 100% accurate, and it can learn Water Pulse for those pesky fire-type weaknesses.

I just find it funny that if someone uses Weather Ball against Abomasnow, the Ice-type Weather Ball caused from Snow Warning lands for super effective damage against it. I mean, what kind of Ice-type Pokemon can't even take Ice-type moves. xd

I guess either weather ball or Aboma are broken? Ironic since it can resist ice normally..

Venusaur's weakness to EQ is devastating and the same can be said about Torterra's x4 weakness against Ice, especially since both aren't very fast and thier bulk (on most cases) don't compensate for this. Of course, Venusaur now can get Power Whip as an egg move in HG/SS which is interesting on it's own (no more Leaf Storm sets for me).

On the upside, a few Grass-types I've had some success with are: Sceptile, Breloom, Jumpluff, Ludicolo, Shiftry, Tangrowth and Tropius. Of course, most of those have gimmicky movesets but you can't argue with results when executed properly.
Venusaur is not weak against Ground, because it is Grass. I don't think it would be a bad option, because it is fast enough to outrun many other tanks, & can leech seed, aswell as Giga Drain/Synthesis to restore health too. I would use Venusaur, but he's so freakin' ugly... Sorry if I offended anybody in saying that. Btw, I do like all the other grass-types you mentioned. I was actually thinking of running a Jumpluff, but I can't decide of which set I should run. xd

I am no longer a fan of Venusaur because of the Poison typeage which leaves it susceptible to so much... Sorry corm. wink
I have yet to test a Torterra.
I like all that Ky suggested, and many are on my gym team for this guild. Haven't tried Tropius yet...

Sceptile is the fastest non-Uber Sub-Seeder. Would that be useful to you?

PWN. Working on one now. Sceptile is only my favorite Pokemon.

I prefer a breloom with a toxic orb on it. Heals instead of poisoning her.
And makes a good status absorber to boot. Of course, that's only if it has the Poison Heal ability. ninja

This almost never fails. I love the "status absorber" part. Screw your Tunder Wave, I'm poisoned! Plus healing helps so much with a well known Breloom setup...

I've never been a fan of Abomasnow. Why? Snow Warning hurts my other Grass types. I despise Fire types, so why ask for some to murder me? That and I dislike Ice types. Again, you can tell I'm a Grass leader. xd

Haven't tried Tropius yet...

Once I'm done with my Exeggcute, I'm going to attempt a training session with one and see if I can make a good tank. I think in this case a speed nature and some mix EV training with Hp would be suffice.

My only problem with creating a good Tropius is it's moveset which to this day, I'm still doing :p

I have a fairly decent one, though it is VERY situational. In either case, I find it screwy how Tropius can now learn Dragon Dance, but can't have Leaf Blade on the same moveset. Thanks for nothing, Nintendo.

Lol, that's pretty lame, kinda like how Azumarill can't learn Belly Drum & Aqua jet... lol rofl
Good times, good times...

Roserade is another type which I recommend since you can create a pretty good swap combo between it and Ludicolo to take on Fire types (weather alteration move + Weather ball). It's also very speed and special attack friendly so it's worth your while.

Torterra is another to pick up along the way due to it's high defense and attack rating (not to mention besides Cradily, it's earthquake can do away with pesky steels).

Also If you love a balanced stat pokemon, I would go with Either Venusaur or Cherrim.
ludi colo and Rosade are my favorite grass types

Did a few of you mention SubSeed Sceptile? wink

Breloom is my favorite pokemon, and a great one.

Choice Scarf Snowman seems fine.

Roserade is all around useful. It's great.

How has Meganium not been mentioned yet? It's a lovely tank in the right hands. It can subseed as well as most others, it can grasswistle, counter and seed bomb, and it's pure grass, so you don't get some of the drawbacks that Venusaur has.

Roserade is pretty sweet, a nice toxic spiker, it gets shadow ball to deal with those pesky psychics and ghosts, of course it has weather ball, and sometimes poison point can help save you.

Jumpluff is the second fastest non uber grass type. The classic sleep powder set will work nicely, can set sunnyday and benefit from it with chlorophyll, and it's another subseeder.

Tangrowth is a pretty decent Grass type. It has good offensive and defensive stats (not counting sp. def). And with Cholorophyll, they can be fast (if you want them to be). But, Grass types have various weaknesses, leaving Tangrowth open to many attacks, but with its large HP stat it almost makes up for it.

Hello, what about Celebi? Sure it's legendary, but not Uber. It has fanastic stats, Natural Cure, and the ability to successfully Calm Mind, SubSeed, and Baton Pass.
As for the Pokemon mentioned above, Sceptile, Breloom, Abomasnow, Roserade, and even Exeggutor are all perfectly usable Pokemon.

I might have a few suggestions. I do like a lot of grass types

Meganium i was using once in the battle factory and it had a very interesting move set. Giga drain, leech seed, toxic, substitute holding a big root. it was very usful but i know that if your facing a grass type leech seed will not work plus giga drain will just barley do anything. steel types make toxic useless. and if your facing a grass/poison type then u cant use anything. but still i think it might be useful

Torterra is my favorite pokemon so i might have a suggestion
maybe a moveset of
Earthquake
Rock slide
curse
grass knot
again another factory moveset which is actualy very useful but i would not know of a item to put on it. And there has been so many times my old Torterra has been destroyed by a ice beam or blizzard. but i still think he can be extreamly usful.

Sceptile. I know he specializes in sp. atk but i think he really should be trained as a atker. moves like swords dance earthquake leaf blade and something else those are my suggestions

I recommend Exeggutor! yeah it has 4x weak to Bug, but its a unique typing that is way better than Ice/Grass! It also has Chlorophyll which boost speed in the sun, cause it is pretty slow! It's Sp Attack can pack a big punch with the extra speed, Solar beam can be put in alot faster and stronger with Sunny Day + STAB + great SP Attack + better speed included with Sunny Day!

Lord Martini
Although Victreebel wouldn't be recommended by most, I do. With it having the Special Ability "Chlorophyll", have it learn Sunny Day then it'll move very fast. I have one w/ others move like Sleep Powder, Giga Drain, and Sludge Bomb. Also equip it with this root-type item that allows HP draining-type moves to drain more HP. Have all of that and Victreebel will be a pesky one to beat.

have you ever considered a Physical Victreebell? i know 99% make him special attacker.
i think its safe to say im the only one with a physical one since i havent found sets for him.
and i have to say it works wonders :3
