Going around it didn't seem like a good idea, though. When people strayed from the path in movies, that was always when the serial killer got them. The compass was pointing forwards, so surely they should go...well, forwards. It was a magical compass (how else could it be a rabbit's tail?), so it knew what it was doing. Who knew what might happen if they went the wrong way, the compass might not like it.
"...No, let's keep going forwards," she suddenly said decisively, in a confident tone, "We should stick to the path. Getting lost is the last thing we need. We'll just be careful, like you said."

Azzo gave her a sideways glance. Well that was awful quick decision making. He lofted a brow as almost to question, are you sure?
Before shrugging and trekking on. "Wish we had something to plug our ears with..." He muttered, betting anything the song would probably try to enchant them. Not something he wished to encounter, or deal with, not after the bone tree.
He sighed and he moved. "Just... try to think of useless babble inside your head or something, to keep the music from actually...." He paused, from doing what. "We should just try not to listen to the music or look at whomever is singing." It was then he looked at the compass, when they drew closer he put it into his vest pocket. He didn't know what kind of pick pockets these things were either. He fastened the button and sighed, "To keep it safe" He said softly. He could get them across and out of sight before pulling it back out without needing it.

Eos frowned - plug their ears? She was the Senshi of Senses, something like that should be easy for her to achieve. But of course, it wasn't, her attack being completely random. She thought about offering it, before deciding against it. It could completely backfire, and end up with one of them being blind or something. Not helpful.
She followed Azzo, trying to do as he'd said. Thinking of useless babble was actually a lot more difficult that it sounded, though. Especially when the words of the song were beginning to reach her ears, and they were very familiar...
'We dig dig dig dig dig dig dig in a mine the whole day through,
To dig dig dig dig dig dig dig is what we like to doooooo!'
As they turned the corner, through the thinning layers of trees, some small moving shapes became clear. And as Eos and Azzo took a few more steps forwards, a small clearing would come into view.
It wasn't Snow White, but it was pretty close.
They weren't dwarves, but instead herons. Large birds, with long, spindly orange legs, somehow managing to grip the shovels they were using to dig a large hole in the ground. The hole seemed huge - if Eos and Azzo had been closer, they would've been able to see that there was no bottom to it, or at least no bottom you could see. But clearly there was one, as occasionally a heron would fly up and out of the whole, a shining gem in it's beak. It would then place the gem on a large, ever-growing pile to the right of the hole.
There were three herons at the top of the hole, digging it outwards, making it larger. And from what Eos and Azzo could tell, there were three herons flying in and out to collect the 'gems'. One heron sat by the pile, inspecting each gem, presumably for authenticity. It was this heron that turned to face the pair as they approached, a confused frown (could herons frown?) on his face. "Why, who are you?"

Azzo's face twitched, visibly when they approached. This was not his idea of a fun trek through the woods. Not to mention it just kept getting worse!!
He was nudging her along the way trying to stay in the bushes as much as possible until the question sounded. He flinched, visibly, at being seen.
"Passersby." He said quickly and ushered her to move on. "We're sorry we're in a bit of a hurry. We've a date with a raven." He figured maybe they'd leave them alone if they knew the raven.
He didn't look panicked, but he was a bit worried that this would end up another bad spot. "Really would love to stay and chat, but we're late." He added with a nod.

Sailor Eos seemed...very, very confused. Herons? Singing Hi Ho? Wasn't it dwarves that usually sang that? The seven dwarves. Although, to be fair, there were seven herons. But it still wasn't quite right, and the girl merely followed Azzo, taking cautious steps around the large hole as Azzo nudged her. She nodded as he spoke, trying to please the herons so they'd let the pair pass. They needed to keep moving. "We're heading to the centre of the forest," she added, not realizing that might be a bad idea.
In the meantime, the other six herons had ceased their activity, all standing and staring at Eos and Azzo. It was still only the closest heron that spoke, though, a wide smile stretching his...beak. "Ahhh, the raven. Of course, he does so love visitors, but he doesn't like you to be late, hmm?"
It was Eos' added comment that caused him to frown again, tapping the tip of his beak thoughtfully with the longest feather of his wing, "The centre of the forest? ...An odd path to take, but certainly a scenic one. Would you like some directions, you seem to be lost?"

Azzo stared at Eos wanting to Gibbs smack her for giving info. He hissed at her, "Let me do the talking." That grumpy tone was back. "Haha... did she say Center? I think she meant the outskirts, you know past the center, ALL the way on the other side."
He looked at the Heron. "And No. I have it perfectly handled. Thank you though." He ushered her on.
"He's already given us how to get there, No need to confuse anyone." He wanted out of there, his talking had quickened a bit as well which was a clear sign on how fast he wanted to leave. Oh what would he do if they followed... He looked at Eos, hopefully her power was something good. He was debating on throwing out a bluff about how he knew where he was going anyways because he'd been here before but he kept his mouth shut for now. "We are sorry to interrupt your work."
He added as he gave a wave, "We'll be seeing you." It seemed to be taking a long time to get away from them. He didn't like this, not one bit.

...Whoops. Had she said something she shouldn't have? She winced, despite not actually getting slapped by Azzo, soon realizing her mistake when he hissed at her. "Sorry," she whispered back, shuffling back a little so she was behind him. Perhaps letting Azzo do all the talking was the better idea, he wouldn't mess everything up like she currently was. So, as he'd asked, she remained silent, merely shuffling uneasily forwards when he ushered her to, heading towards the path on the other side of the clearing.
All the herons took a step towards the pair, bar the one talking. "No, really, it would be no trouble. We'll all escort you - it could be like an adventure!"
His grin was looking more and more menacing by the second.

Azzo paused, actually he'd had an idea. "NO!" He paused, "No what I mean to say is, I need your help in another matter."
If one knew him well enough they could see in his eyes that wheels were turning in his head. "I have a terrible message to get to Flopsy. Mr. Mittens wife and her 63 kids, I think it was 63..."
He gave a nod and looked around, "It's of dire importance." Obviously he'd gotten wind of what story it was. "Tell her Mr. Mittens made a mistake and got taken by the bone tree." He paused looking around as if this was the gravest of secrets.
"You must tell her. Quickly. Don't let the raven know you know! We'll be fine, I've been here before. I know my way around." He lied through his teeth, but an outright poker face was among that mixed with grief and sadness thinking of the wife and how he'd ended her husband's life. At least the raven had given him something though. "Flopsy doesn't know, you must tell her! Quickly... Quickly, take it by the wings. Tell her, she must know."
Perhaps that would be enough to put the birds in a tizzy. Otherwise he'd have to try to fight off seven birds too, unless he could convince them snow white was in trouble... Good thing about doing puppet shows is that you have to know how to at least decently act. His face was held at a desperate disposition. "I'd tell her myself, but the raven, he doesn't like people to be late, you know."

Sailor Eos was...surprised. Surprised, and very, very imressed. Who knew Azzo would be such an amazing actor? Eos merely stood behind him, eyes wide, nodding and trying to look as serious as she could. She contemplated adding something to Azzo's story, but refrained, afraid she'd say something stupid again and throw the herons off of the story.
Instead, she started towards the path, hoping it'd portray some sense of urgency or...something.
The herons all paused, looking confused as Azzo shouted at them. However, they all seemed very interested in the job he had for them, especially the one they were talking to. As soon as the bone tree was mentioned, they all gasped, a few even jumped back or clutched their chests in shock. The one they were talking to sudenly looked very solemn and sad, stumbling over his words.
"My, why...I...I only saw Mr. Mittens the other day..." he spoke, his words interrupted by the odd choke where his throat had swelled from the sad news. "This is grave news indeed."
A few of the other herons had already launched into the sky, disappearing in differing directions with loud caws. The seated heron stood, moving towards Azzo, though stopped just short of him with a small bow. "Thank you for informing us. We will carry the message to Flopsy, and caution the rest of the forest." A pause, "You best be off to meet the raven, before you're late. Feel free to help yourself to a gem or two, the raven might like a gift,"
He gave one last smile, this one sincere and genuine, before also launching himself into the sky, the last of the seven herons to disappear over the canopy.

Azzo sighed, there now the wife would know. He didn't even think of taking a glance again at the gems. "Come. I think we've wasted too much time."
Azzo said there wasn't as much acting involved as it were trying to keep them from knowing, who did it. He shook his head, he sighed, "If the raven would like a gift, I have one for him as it is."
Azzo wans't sure if they were to meet back up with the raven, but the story itself kept them out of trouble. "Next thing we pass, please don't tell it where we're going."
He said, with a stern look. Sighing before shaking his head, "Oh the indecency." Azzo said as he walked along. At least he had control of the situation, when they were far enough from where the birds had been he pulled the compass out and held out, watching and adjusting their path accordingly. "Remind me to bring duct tape next time." He added.

Sailor Eos started off down the path as the herons left, though paused to allow Azzo to catch up, since he seemed to be the one that knew where they were going. She gave the pile of gems a lingering glance, but followed Azzo without much trouble - she'd never been one for taking things, even when offered. Not unless she'd actually done something to earn it, which she certainly hadn't yet.
"Yeah...sorry," she apologized, "I realized straight after I said it but...well, obviously it was too late."
She shrugged - it hadn't caused them much harm, and they were now on their merry way once again. "I hope we get there soon, though," she mumbled, glancing to the sky, "The herons were right, it looks like its going to get dark...or darker, soon." She peeked at the compass curiously, following Azzo as he adjusted their path, "Duct tape?"

Ah the joys of guilt. "At least Flopsy will know now." He said softly.
He shrugged again and kept walking. "Ugh... this reminds me of a song." Azzo added as he walked.
"This is the forest that never ends~ Yes it goes on and on my friends! Some people started walking it, not knowing what it was~ and they'll continue walking it forever just because~"
He was grinning because he knew most people hated that song. Though it was by this point rather fitting of the forest.

Eos frowned - she couldn't imagine shutting birds up with duct tape, she'd imagine they'd fight back a fair bit before you'd manage to subdue them enough to actually wrap it around their beaks. But...eh, whatever. She shrugged, following the boy.
"I've...never heard that song," she commented, tapping a finger on her chin thoughtfully. It was strange - she knew a fair amount of music, both new and old. "Is it from anything?" she asked, wondering if she had heard of it before and had just forgotten it. Which was entirely possible. "Does the compass like...glow when we get nearer or something?"

He frowned, who was he stuck with? He could've sworn everyone had at least seen lamb chops at least once. It was only one of the most awesome puppet TV shows ever, at least if you asked Azzo.
He paused, shook his head. "He never said anything about glowing, I'd assume like all compasses it'd go funky. You know like they show on TV when people are at the north pole the compass goes funny and starts spinning every which way. I can only assume it'd do the same here. Or somehow manage to stand up on end and point down. Not sure I'd want it to point down though. I personally think we've seen enough of this hell..."

Lamb chops? Eos shook her head slowly, eyes wide - oh dear, was she failing miserably at life by not having watching this show? She'd watched all of the popular shows - Pokemon, Magic Roundabout, Pink and the Brain... Or at least, they were popular to Selena. She'd never heard of Lamb Chops before. "What was it about?" she asked, wondering if perhaps she'd seen snippets of it and just never caught the name.
No glowing? Damn, that would have made it a lot easier. Eos wasn't going to lie - her feet were getting a little tired, and so was she. They'd been walking a fair while now. "D'you reckon we'll get there soon?" she asked hopefully, knowing full well that Azzo knew as much as she did - which was next to nothing.
