In which a boy becomes a man.. errr... dragonrider.
(AkA: An Impression Story )
It was safe to say that Jinurall hadn't come to Trine Weyr with the expectation to Impress. Truthfully, the lazy lad didn't have a whole lot of expectations period, but the thought of joining the ranks of the Dragonriders was a little much. He was small, for starters, he wasn't exactly the most ambitious sort, and he wasn't all that fond of animals. Well, not being fond of animals was a stretch. It wasn't that he
disliked animals, he just wasn't a beastcrafter and had little reason to personally have anything to do with anything that wasn't either human... or a machine.
So, needless to say, he had been a
wee bit bewildered when he had found himself Searched, Transferred, and Standing.
Looking back, he wondered if that blue dragon had made a mistake. There were hordes of smith apprentices all across Pern dying to be standing where he was now, so why him? The dragon hadn't looked all that interested in him, just a passing glance and a long inhale as he had reluctantly joined those already assembled for the blue's rider. He had thought the dragon had been displeased with his tardiness at the time, rather then pointing him out for selection.
Fardles. It had to be a mistake.
Looking about him from beneath his long dark auburn bangs, all he could see were happy faces as some Impressed, with the main clutch Hatched and Impressed- there was only a few dud eggs left, and a odd sort of constipated look on the rest. That small part of his mind that took great pleasure in teasing and pranking laughed at the latter, but the rest of him wondered what his face looked like at the moment?
You look bored.Drawn from his thoughts, he realized with a start that he had missed the first egg being opened, but when he couldn't spot the dragon inside, he wrongfully assumed it had been a true dud.
That... and he was hearing things.
Being lazy and rude would account for being bored at Hatching I suppose.Again he started, and this time looked down (something he rarely did given that the rest of the world always seemed bigger then him anyway) and inhaled swiftly. The black hatchling that peered up at him was small, very small, but kind of squat... much like a wherry with an overly large butt.
Still..
"No way. You've got the wrong guy." He stated, staring down at the dragon with something between wonder and worry.
Probably, but I wouldn't have you any other way. I am Dannath, J'iura."Shards, don't shorten my name like that, it sounds like a girl's name!"
