No, certainly not. In fact, I think he could get around a lot quicker if he wasn't doing that. Of course, this usually applies to RWD cars as well. Drifting is mostly just a show of bravery.
FFs don't drift, they slide. It's completely different because the wheels are doing completely different things. An FR car drifting will have its front wheels turned away from the corner and its rear wheels will be spinning, providing enough forward motion to propel the car into the corner whereas in the same situation, an FF car would be on the grass. When an FF car 'drifts' it slides. You turn the front wheels in the direction of the corner, keep them there, and the rear wheels just sort of drag along.
