Ayita was quiet for a moment. "My pack worships a goddess that does not approve of unnaturally colored wolves... to appease the anger she feels toward our pack for their tolerance of my family they are demanding a sacrifice... and if I don't want my mother to die a painful death, I will be expected to step forward and take her place." she whispered. "We are their slaughtering pigs, the let us stay so they have wolves to sacrifice." she murmured quietly. She looked at him and tipped her head to the side. "What is it like? Living in a pack that actually likes you?"

His face grew pale at her words, dastardly images running in his mind of wolves cackling as they put a rainbow wolf to death via pushing it off a cliff. And then unbidden there went his mother, his father, his larger brother Phrixos, his rough and tumble sister Aloadae, and then . . . and then little him, quivering with fright at the pool of blood. Thunder thankfully drowned out his furtive whines, but he looked upon Ayita with newfound sympathy. He couldn't imagine what that sort of life was like, born to be slaughtered . . .
"It's . . . I-It's like you think it would be," Erynion answered after a while. "Everyone accepts you for who you a-are. But now they're all gone. A-And now I have to go find them; I have to. What if . . ." He perked. "What if you come with me? You wouldn't have to get hurt anymore. We could t-take your mom with us!" She shouldn't have to suffer either.

She watched his gaze go from confusion, to sympathy, to horror and back. She listened to him and she crawled a bit closer to the male pup and she laid her head on his shoulder, the rest of her curled into a ball beside him. "I wish I could, I really do... but if we left, my father and my brothers would be in trouble too... and I think that even though I want to go with you, it's not time yet... maybe someday soon, when I'm bigger and I can fight to protect myself, I will. I have a choice... die in my mother's place, a sacrifice to an angry god, or exile... I was told that when the time came, I would know the path I must take... if I leave my pack En... I'd like to join you and yours..." she said with a soft smile on her sad face. She licked his cheek in thanks and murmured, "Right now, I am glad to have a friend who accepts me as I am, even though I got lost tonight, I am really glad, because I met you." she said softly, growing drowsy from the repetitive sound of falling rain.

His ears tilted back as she rested closer to him, a mix of emotions: stiffening a little at the close contact after being alone for so long, but with a spark of warmth in his heart. Had he made a friend, despite the odd circumstances of their forced meeting? Though he wished she hadn't licked his cheek; that was just major privacy invasion, and he leaned his head away for a full minute afterwards, not sure if it was rude to clean it off yet or not. The last time he ever got licked by someone else was his mother, during the usual cleaning. This was just . . . weird.
"Um . . . g-glad I met you too?" It ended up more like a question, which made him bite his tongue in embarrassment; he couldn't so much as look at her at this point. "Just tell me where th-the pack is so I know where to find you next time."

She realized he was uncomfortable and she withdrew from him. "I'm sorry... my siblings... it's how we comfort each other... I didn't mean to... I mean..." she fell silent and curled up, looking out into the rain again, feeling like a fool.
"Ah, it's just over in that direction, past the trees and near the hill." she said, pointing with her nose in the correct direction. "My family is exiled to the edge of the property, so finding my scent should be easy." she murmured. "It's still hard to believe my father was the Alpha once... Now my half brother is the Alpha... and he hates Father and the rest of us... just goes to show family isn't something you can always fall back on sometimes, huh?"

"S'okee . . . My f-family did the same." Didn't mean he wouldn't mind someone else doing it to him. He nodded in the direction she pointed out, knowing that after today Ayita's scent would be burned into his memory; that's what tended to happen when forced into close quarters for a period of time, rain or no rain. "Look . . . J-Just don't give up hope. When we're both older, I'll come back, and y-you won't have to worry anymore." He realized with a pang that the thunder had quieted itself, and all left in the background was the pitter-patter of rain. It was lulling, and he felt his eyelids drooping.
"Alpha, huh? Wow . . ." And he yawned right afterwards, resting his head on his paws as he curled up, mostly dry now. "S'okee, th-that's all I can say . . ." His exhaustion was catching up to him.

She felt comforted by his words and she crawled a little closer, this time laying her head near him rather than on him. "I can't wait to grow up, then." she murmured quietly, and she slowly drifted off to sleep, the lulling patter carrying her away.
