Or does America not use the patron system anymore? I know it's a bit archaic (Leonardo da Vinci and Picasso were famous for having one), but it's still a good one.So....a patron is a bit like a money puppet with it's own mind?

The patron may give or withhold monies, etc. as they see fit... so the artist must do a damn good job of making the patron happy!!!
