"Floooooooooon!" Things on screen seemed to slow down as Beta Knight and Pikachu raced for the pokeball. He tried to use his teleporting cape attack to move him forward quicker than the pikachu, but the little bit of animation lag caused him to lose the pokeball.
Newton prepared for the worst and to GTFO.

Unfortunately for Jen, the gameing gods decided to show some form of pity to Newton. Her fingers slipped on the controller and Pikachu almost went flying over the edge of the stadium in an un-intentional Quick Attack.
Fortunately, the pokemon managed to grab the edge of the platform. "Dang it..." The rocket eyed the pokeball while bracing her character for the potential impact.

Beta-Knight managed to grab the pokeball and toss it towards the pikachu. The ball fell short of hitting the place where pikachu was hanging, but when it opened, an electrode popped out. It grinned at the players.
"Floon!" Meta-Knight took off running away from the electrode.

Oh snap.
Pikachu desperately tried to climb back into the platform and flee from the explosive pokemon but to no luck. The flashing was the only warning...
BOOM!
The electrode became a small fireball and...
Ppppppiiiiikkkkkkaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!

Her poor pokemon became a tiny twinkle against the background. Jen glared at the pokemon beside her; soon Pikachu was back on the field and, with no mercy, launched itself straight at Beta Knight using an ansault of attacks.

Beta Knight hadn't gotten far away enough from the blast and he went flying off-screen too. Newton cursed (it is assumed) and glared back at Jen.
Nyx almost thought she saw sparks shooting between the two.
When Beta Knight returned, the pikachu was right on him. Both players launched into a whirlwind of fury and geekery.

The two literatelly became a dust cloud of blows straight out of a cartoon or anime they way they started going at one another.
Physical and special blows were exchanged at a rapid pace, both looking like they were gunna go do down guns blazing in a flare of victory.

Eventually the battled was coming to a close. Both Pikachu and Beta Knight had one life left and quite a bit of damage.
Newton was starting to get nervous. He had to win for all the pokemon out there who couldn't play video games! ... And his ego. Mostly his ego.
Suddenly a strange red circle blinked on to the screen and floated around. Newton yelled out and smashed buttons frantically, trying to reach it before Jen.

Is that...?
AH HELL YES!
Jen gleed happily and button mashed as Pikachu also leaped for the special item. Time seemed to slow down to a crawl as the Knight and Pokemon seemingly reached out to grab it....
At that moment, Jen's controller decided to spazz and Pikachu missed the item by bare inches to tumble to the ground. Her jaw dropped in shock before forcing Pikachu to make another desperate leap at the item.
"DAMMIT!"

The Knight jumped into the air at the same time as the Pikachu. Unfortunately for the pokemon, Beta Knight was better at aerial combat. Newton initiated Shuttle Loop. The cloaked ball rocketed into the air, sword lifted skyward, and struck the pikachu and the red circle.

Ah, the sensation of victory. That went flying as her character went flying after that powered-up Smash Attack...
BATTLE OVER! THE WINNER IS....
Beta Knight!
The following screen showed both competitors their stats and both revealed it had been a close match. With a sigh, Jen dropped her controller and stretched aching fingers before casting a grin at the pokemon.
"You got lucky, you big ball of hot air." Yet she couldnt be angry at the Drifloon. "But still...best match I had a long time." She held out a hand. "Good duel, dude."

Newton stuck his tongue out, at the same time he reached out and shook the human's hand.
Nyx smiled and pat her Drifloon. "Alright, buddy. We've got to get back to work." She reached her hand up for the pidgey to hop onto and handed it back to Jen.
"Well, oh! I don't think we had time to be introduced before Newton shot his mouth off. I'm Nyx! I work down in the labs."

Yamir gave a happy coo as he bounced from Nyx's hand to Jen's shoulder.
"It was nice meeting ya, Nyx. Name's Jen. Demolition Department."
As she followed Nyx out the doorway, she ran off in the other direction of the hallway towards the stairs. Work was calling for the Grunt as well and she needed to be down in the department ASAP.
They needed to have a re-match someday.
